DramaFever Shuts Down

$

Because WB and AT&T suck and are filled with awful people, they decided to suddenly pull the plug on the superior Asian drama streaming service, DramaFever. 20% of the 110-person team will lose their jobs.

Being one of the few places to legally stream Chinese and Japanese dramas aside from their main focus of Korean dramas and movies, this is a rather huge blow. I fully expect Hallyu fans to blow shit up.

I’m pissed, ONTD fam. I watch primarily Chinese dramas because I’m learning Mandarin and Netflix took down The Disguiser and When A Snail Falls In Love, among others.

Goop Launches Their Own Poo-Purri Line Inexplicably Called Privy and Not Goop-urri Like It SHOULD Be

Gwyneth Paltrow is best known for stinking piles of shit like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Shallow Hal, and Mortdecai so it comes as no surprise that goop is into poop. Her royal dryness has teamed up with Poo-purri for a new line of toilet oils that costs just six times the price of a regular bottle of the exact same product. Scents include wood sage & sea salt, tuberose & sandalwood, patchouli & peppercorn, and desperation & tears of poor people. For just $59.95, your shit can smell like piss, tree bark, vegan sweat, or crushing student loan debt! Don't miss out, get your goop-urri HERE before it's taken off the market by the FDA! Though we are not "privy" to why it's not named goop-urri, I can confidently say it is her worst word choice since she thought she could say the "n" word on Twitter at a Jay Z concert.

ONTD Halloween Original™: Tips to Help You Survive a Bear Attack 🐻

Prophecy© 1979 Paramount Pictures

"That's because he's smarter than the average bear."
- from the "The Yogi Bear Show" theme song

Although they may be round and cuddly-looking in memes and GIFs, bears are not something you want to run into while camping or hiking. The chances of being attacked are slim (for instance, 1 in 2.1 million if you visited Yellowstone Park), but you should be ready. So here are some basic tips if you ever decide to visit the great outdoors.

Grizzly Park© 2008 American World Pictures

Identify the Type of Bear

Just like people are different from one another, not every bear behaves or reacts the same way. There are black bears, grizzly/brown bears, polar bears, etc. Some rules for dealing with bears are universal, but then some aren't. Like playing dead may work for brown bears. Fighting back, however, could be your best option with black bears. Polar bears are tougher to beat unfortunately.

Grizzly Rage© 2007 RHI Entertainment

Make Your Presence Known

Bears, especially brown bears, don't like to be surprised. So if you know there are bears in the area, let them know you're there. Make a little noise or talk. Don't disturb a bear if it doesn't even see you, though. Another obvious tip is to just be aware of bears being present wherever you're going. That way you can be prepared. Another helpful tip: don't leave food out as you camp or after you leave! You are only inviting bears to eat it, or causing them to bother other people in search of food.

Backcountry © 2014 IFC Midnight

Bear Spray

Do some research and find out if you're going somewhere populated by bears. The easiest thing you can do (other than simply not go) is to bring some bear spray. The discharge range for these sprays is about 40-50 feet. The idea is to create a wall of spray to stop a charging bear.

Prophecy© 1979 Paramount Pictures

Hit the Dirt

So the bear's gotten past your wall of repellent? If you're being charged, you need to get on the ground, cover your neck with your hands (fingers laced), and assume the fetal position with your knees tucked in under your chin. Don't run because a bear can catch you easily.

The Edge© 1997 20th Century Fox

Don't Run

Our gut instinct when being attacked by something big and dangerous is to run. Yet that's possibly the worst thing you can do with a bear. Why? Bears are faster than you think and they tend to chase anything that runs from them. And you'll regret it once they catch you. Instead, play dead or fight back if need be.

Into the Grizzly Maze© 2015 Vertical Entertainment & Destination Films

Play Dead

With brown bears, playing dead may actually work. Be aware that bears such as grizzlies will stick around for a good twenty minutes before giving up. So stay still until then. However, this does not work well with polar bears. Playing dead isn't gonna cut it with them.

Grizzly© 1976 Columbia Pictures

Fight Back

So with black bears, fighting back might be a better choice than playing dead. Do whatever it takes. Punch, kick, harm the bear's sensitive areas like the nose. You want the bear to run away from you, not vice versa. Polar bears, on the other hand, don't respond to playing dead or fighting back as they're much larger than other bears. So standing your ground and trying to intimidate them with your presence and loud voice is about all you can do if bear spray doesn't work.

Unnatural© 2015 After Dark Films

Bad Timing

Most bear attacks are a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So don't think you'll always be attacked even if you go into an area known for having bears present. You just need to be prepared and ready in case an attack happens.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 20 Horror & Supernatural TV Shows for Young Adults

$
0
0

Light as a Feather© 2018 Hulu

"I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book."
- Groucho Marx

The horror genre didn't begin to aim its focus on kids and teenagers until the fifties/sixties (ghoulish comics) and seventies (movies). Studios realized that the youth has money, too. Or has means to get some so they can consume anything that fills their free time.

As the teen demographic was hit hard in the seventies and onward, TV networks took note and started to market to teenagers. The teen show formula wasn't exactly "perfected" until the nineties. So once writers were getting a better grasp of what does and what doesn't appeal to kids, teens, and young twentysomethings, they were allowed to branch out and explore other genres. This included science fiction, which was particularly popular with the elementary and middle school aged, and then horror for those not so easily scared.

Series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files especially inspired the paranormal boom of late '90s scripted television. But are there really that many horror shows out there that are geared toward children and young adults? Yes, there is a surprising high amount. And here are twenty of them.

For the sake of keeping the list fresh, well-known entries like Buffy, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, Shadowhunters, and Teen Wolf have been excluded to make room for other series.

THE SECRET CIRCLE
2011-2012

A group of teenagers learns that they are all witches, and only together can they defeat those out to destroy them.

This short-lived series based on LJ Smith's series of novels was basically greenlit as a result of the success of The Vampire Diaries adaptation. Unfortunately for The Secret Circle, it just couldn't bring in the same audience draw as the aforementioned series. By the time the show found some footing, the damage had been done and it was effectively cancelled.

EERIE, INDIANA
1991-1992

After a young boy moves to a small town called Eerie, he and his friend investigate mysteries and bizarre occurrences around the area.

Omri Katz of Hocus Pocus fame starred in this little show that could be best described as David Lynch for kids. It was a strange series that didn't stay on the air for more than one season. It did receive renewed interest after Fox Kids began to show reruns. There was even a brief spin-off called Eerie, Indiana: The Other Dimension that both premiered and ended in 1998.

BIG WOLF ON CAMPUS
1999-2002

After he's bitten by a werewolf, a teenager becomes a werewolf himself. He and his friends then battle supernatural creatures in their hometown.

The critical success of Buffy influenced the creation of this Canadian lycan horror comedy. It's far less serious, but Big Wolf on Campus has nostalgic appeal at the very least. The MTV adaptation of Teen Wolf definitely took some cues from this one.

DEAD OF SUMMER
2016

Set in the 1980s, a group of camp counselors experiences terror one summer.

Freeform followed Fox and MTV, both of which had created their own slasher series around the same time. Dead of Summer failed to impress many viewers early on, but those who stuck by it were rewarded as the one-season show delivered one of the more shocking twists that year. Had the series been renewed, Summer would have become a seasonal anthology like American Horror Story.

THE FADES
2011

A teenager must prevent the spirits of the dead, known as Fades, from returning to the plane of the living and destroying all of mankind.

Although this BBC supernatural drama didn't last long (many British shows don't exceed more than one season anyway), it set up an intriguing story. It's on Prime Video in the U.S. as of now.

FREAKISH
2016-2017

Those stuck in Saturday detention are spared from succumbing to an unleashed chemical that turns the majority of the town into zombies.

Hulu devised a zombie show geared toward younger audiences. The casting of some YouTube "celebrities" as characters was a deterrent for some, but the first season improved as it furthered along. In July 2018, Freakish was cancelled.

FREAKYLINKS
2000-2001

After his twin brother dies by suicide, Derek takes over his website that investigates paranormal cases.

The producers of The Blair Witch Project created this Fox show, which is like The X-Files for the Internet crowd. The overarching mystery about the protagonist's brother is sprinkled throughout the only season, but most episodes were standalone and of the monster-of-the-week variety. Unfortunately, Fox put this in its Friday deathslot. Not to mention Freakylinks, a show about the Internet, was possibly too ahead of its time.

GLORY DAYS
2002

When a novelist moves back to his hometown, he comes across mysteries that only he can seem to solve.

Kevin Williamson conceived this show as a standard drama, but the WB asked for him to revise it as a mystery oriented series. Only nine episodes were made/aired so it wasn't a major loss for the network. Though it was a mildly comforting show that starred Tad from Friends and Emily Van Camp before she was cast in Everwood following Glory Days' cancellation..

LIGHT AS A FEATHER
2018

When a group of high school friends play a game of Light as a Feather with a new student, they each begin to die. It's revealed that this rendition of the game curses every participant.

Hulu quickly put this show together just in time for Halloween. Sadly, it won't be getting too much attention with the release of other anticipated horror TV series that debuted in or will be debuting this October. Light as a Feather is a breezy and engaging supernatural mystery with some inspiration from the Final Destination franchise. It's not profound by any means, but it also doesn't try to pretend to be either.

MY BABYSITTER'S A VAMPIRE
2010-2012

A family's babysitter turns out to be the son's high school crush. She's also a vampire that fights whatever goes bump in the night.

This Canadian supernatural comedy started off as a Teletoon TV-movie before it was imported to the U.S. There, it aired on Disney Channel. Due to some questionable content (like showing the protagonist feeding on rats as a substitution for human blood), it probably turned off some parents looking for something "safe" for their kids to watch. Babysitter is very much a Buffy wannabe, but that can be forgiven as the series has a nice sense of humor and some fun characters.

SCREAM: THE TV SERIES
2015-

A teenager and her friends become victims to a masked killer in a small town.

It should be noted that during the movie franchise's prime, a television spin-off was rumored to be on the horizon. Nothing ever came to fruition until over a decade later. The MTV adaptation was disappointing to plenty of viewers. And for good reason. The show miraculously received a second season, which many agreed was a slight improvement over the first. A third (and maybe final?) season with a brand new cast and staff is in the works.

SPOOKSVILLE
2013-2014

In his new town, Keean befriends two local kids who are each aware of the area's supernatural matters. They all team up to solve mysteries while also learning the truth about Keean's mother's death.

The Hub Network created a show based on Christopher Pike's Spooksville series of books, which were released between 1995 and 1998. The books were much lighter in tone in comparison to Pike's books for older readers. The TV series focused on Keean and his friends solving paranormal phenomena every week

SCREAM QUEENS
2015-2016

A sorority's members are targeted by a masked killer.

Ryan Murphy was behind this horror comedy geared toward pop culture buffs as well as horror fans. The humor was often too mean-spirited and offensive for some, and the horror elements of each season felt like the measly filling in a cookie (read: just not enough). Audiences would have to bide their time before an episode of Scream Queens truly dove into what the premise promised. In its only two seasons, the series managed to gain a cult following. For everything Queens did "wrong," it managed to make some interesting commentary on the slasher sub-genre without being too derisive.

THE HAUNTING HOUR
2010-2014

In this horror/sci-fi anthology geared toward kids and teenagers, the young protagonists of each self-contained story deal with the supernatural.

Stories from R.L. Stine's The Chilling Hour and The Haunting Hour books provided some material for part of this anthology. Most of the other episodes were based on original scripts. Like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps, The Haunting Hour used a lot of metaphors to convey messages and situations that younger audiences wouldn't either understand, or to bypass the censors. Hour felt a bit uneven as there were often times in this series where a story was possibly too mature or even abstract.

EYE CANDY
2015

As a computer whiz searches for her missing sister, a serial killer targets those who date online.

Eye Candy is also based on an R.L. Stine work, but the MTV production presumably takes liberties with the story. Anyone thinking this will be a high caliber crime drama will be disappointed. Though it's considerably subpar, Eye Candy may grab a patient slasher fan's attention.

SLASHER: GUILTY PARTY
2017

A group of summer camp counselors did a terrible thing to a peer. Now they must pay for their crime. Once they revist the site where the camp used to be, someone among them starts to murder everyone one by one.

Though many may not agree, the second season of this Canadian whodunnit series is better than the first. Mainly because it actually feels and behaves like a slasher, not just a crime procedural/serial killer drama masking as a slasher. Also, Guilty Party is less predictable mystery wise and it also has some startling moments and deaths.

POINT PLEASANT
2005

After a family takes in a young amnesiac woman who washes ashore on the beach, strange phenomena starts to happen to them and the town.

This supernatural soap opera never stood a chance on TV. It's basically fanfic for those who want to know what happened to Rosemary's baby had the child been a girl. If you don't mind some religious overtones in what is basically an OC-esque horror drama, Point Pleasant is worth seeking out.

REAPER
2007-2009

A college dropout learns that he's the Devil's son, who must now capture souls that have escaped from Hell.

The CW scored a success with this hidden gem. It combines elements of Buffy, Dead Like Me, and whatever slacker movie comedy you prefer. Fans are thankful for the second season, but they were left with little resolution.

DEMONS
2009

When a teenager learns he's a descedant of Van Helsing, he is tasked the mission of ridding modern London of dark forces.

The company behind Merlin and Hex came up with this rather unoriginal supernatural teen outing. Though in its defense, it doesn't partake in adolescent drama as much as one would think based on the plot.

MTV'S FEAR
2000-2002

In this reality show, a group of unlucky contestants is put inside a supposedly haunted place. Their exploits as they try to survive the night are documented and shared.

This series may not have aged well, but it is what it is. Especially for anyone who wants a laugh.

HONORABLE MENTION

DAWSON'S CREEK
1998-2003

A coming-of-age drama about a young filmmaker and his friends in a small town.

The screenwriter for Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer got his foot in the teen soap door with the classic WB drama Dawson's Creek. Although it wasn't purely horror by any means, there were at least three episodes that touched upon Williamson's love of the genre. In season one's "The Scare," the group is put in a slasher scenario. Dawson and friends later find themselves in the middle of a Blair Witch-like situation in season three's "Escape from Witch Island." Finally, several of the characters share creepy anecdotes in the anthology style season five episode "Four Scary Stories."

🎃NTD Original: Ranking the DCOM Halloweentown Films on its 20th Anniversary

$
0
0

https://instagram.com/p/Bo4pEbmnnNy

This year, the Disney Channel Original movie Halloweentown celebrates its 20th anniversary. The 1998 film starred Legendary and late actress Debbie Reynolds alongside Judith Hoag, Kimberly J. Brown, Joey Zimmerman, Emily Roeske, Philip Van Dyke&Robin Thomas. The first film would go on to spawn three more sequels, but we try to ignore the fourth one for certain reasons. What are those reasons you ask? Don’t worry we’ll get to it below.

To celebrate the milestone, the original cast all reunited last week in St. Helens, Oregon where the original film was shot for their annual “Spirit of Halloweentown” event. The city of St. Helens recreates Halloweentown every year for locals and visitors who travel to visit Oregon to experience the magic. And here at ONTD, I will rank all the films from worst to best. Are you ready? Trapa!

4. “Return to Halloweentown (2006)”

Alright, let’s get this blasphemy out of the way. So why do we try and forget this entry into the franchise? Well, not only was the original Marnie replaced with a new actress but unfortunately this film barely featured Debbie Reynolds. She only appeared for a short moment in a hologram scene. The concept of Marnie returning to Halloweentown to attend Witch U wasn’t entirely terrible, but the unnecessary replacement of Kimberly J. Brown with Sara Paxton leaves a bad taste in my mouth all these years later.

For years we were left to wonder if the original actress simply was not available (she was filming Big Bad Wolf around the time production for Return to Halloweentown was slated to start), but then in 2015 Kimberly herself confirmed in an interview that she was fully available and wanted to return. Till this day she doesn’t know why Disney didn’t ask her back for this fourth installment. Keep it, Disney!

3. “Halloweentown High (2004)”

In the third installment, Marnie organizes a student exchange program between Halloweentown High and her High School in the mortal realm. A werewolf, troll, witch, gremlin, and an ogre are all given human appearances with magic so they can blend in with human students at the High School in the mortal world. However, there is an evil presence lurking looking to sabotage the whole program. An evil knight of sorts. An enjoyable film, but the lack of the actual Halloweentown gives this film the third spot on this list.

Fun Fact: American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock appears as Cody, Marnie’s love interest from High School. I knew he looked vaguely familiar.

2. “Halloweentown (1998)”

*gasp* The original Halloweentown at number 2? I know. As much as I enjoy the first, it ties or is just barely surpassed by the sequel. Insert the toyou.gif here. In the original, Marnie’s grandmother Aggie visits Marnie when she turns 13. She and her siblings then find out that they are all powerful Cromwell witches and warlocks in another realm in Halloweentown. The family shortly afterwards go to the other realm to help Aggie Cromwell find out why the residents of the town are disappearing — only to discover it is the mayor of the town, Kalabar, behind it all.

1. “Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001)”

The sequel starts off with a Halloween party in the Cromwell house that the whole neighborhood is invited to. New neighbors Kal and his father introduce themselves to Marnie and her mother during the festivities. Marnie develops a crush on Kal after she gives him a tour of her home and he gives her a rose. Soon after, Aggie Cromwell notices something is very wrong in the other realm: everyone in Halloweentown is turning grey and into boring humans. Who is behind it? Kal, son of Kalabar from the first film. How completely unexpected.

Fun Fact: Kimberly J. Brown (Marnie) and Daniel Kountz (Kal) are dating in real life and have been for a few years now.

So, what are the odds of a future fifth installment? It’s entirely possible. In a recent interview, the cast reveal they are totally down.

Kimberly J. Brown:“I’m open to anything, and I’m so humbled that people want to see more and still want to talk about it.”

Joey Zimmerman:“Let’s absolutely do it again. I’ll do it, we need everyone to get on board. Yes, please, let’s do it!”

Judith Hoag:“I think that there is more story in these stories. I think it would shift to now the Marnie character and she's the mom and it's her kids. And I think there's still more that can be mined in Halloweentown. Kimberly should be back, because we need our Kimberly back.”

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark© 1988 New World Pictures

"Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel."
- Jean Racine

Laughter can be the best medicine. It can keep one sane when everything else is falling apart. It can be the coping mechanism for whatever or whomever hurts you.

Then there are horror movies, which are intended to bring out our most fervent fears. So the injection of humor is a divisive strategy. Some prefer their horror to be traditional and straightforward. Others don't mind some comedy mixed in for whatever reason (i.e., diffuse the scares). So here are just twenty very randomly selected horror comedies worth seeking out for a laugh or two. Yes, Cabin in the Woods, Scream, Shaun of the Dead, The Evil Dead, etc. aren't here, but check out these other movies, too.

THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD
1985
Directed by Dan O'Bannon

When a dangerous chemical is unleashed from a medical supply warehouse, the local dead begin to rise as hungry zombies.

Long before Shaun of the Dead made zombies funny, The Return of the Living Dead was doing the same exact thing while still serving some thrills. The first in this franchise is arguably the best, but the second and third are solid in their own ways, too. The fourth and fifth are negligible.

WAXWORK
1988
Directed by Anthony Hickox

A group of students are invited to a mysterious wax museum in town, not realizing what's in store for them once they enter.

If you crave camp and plentiful practical makeup and special effects, then please hunt down the underrated horror comedy Waxwork.

ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK
1988
Directed by James Signorelli

A famous horror host inherits not only a mansion in a conservative, small town but also the trouble that comes with a magical tome passed down through her family.

Mistress of the Dark is one of the most self-indulgent star vehicles to ever thrust itself upon the public. And we should be grateful for that. Cassandra Peterson hams it up as the titular character who is never too scared to recite jokes that poke fun at her exaggerated appearance and demeanor. The movie also has some witchy antics, music montages, and a brief yet satisfying 'final girl" lite conclusion.

INCIDENT AT LOCH NESS
2004
Directed by Zak Penn

When renowned director Werner Herzog and his crew film an on-site documentary about the Loch Ness Monster, they learn there's truth to the myth.

This mockumentary about a documentary gone horribly awry is criminally overlooked. It is dryly funny most of the time, but then there are moments of dread as the film crew is attacked by the mysterious creature haunting Loch Ness.

STITCHES
2012
Directed by Conor McMahon

A wretched clown comes back from the dead to haunt those that caused his death years ago.

You would think something like Stitches is going to be wholly terrible. Not entirely. It has quite a lot of merit for something so low caliber. The humor, mostly of the slapstick variety, is aided by some effective special effects.

STUDENT BODIES
1981
Directed by Mickey Rose, Michael Ritchie

High school students are being picked off by an inept serial killer known as The Breather.

Long before the Scary Movie franchise, there was a little known 1981 comedy that parodied the slasher genre. The humor here isn't timeless, but there are some funny moments in an otherwise goofy movie.

MURDER PARTY
2007
Directed by Jeremy Saulnier

A man accepts a random invite to a Halloween party not realizing the hosts are looking to kill anyone who attends.

It may be hard to believe the director of this also directed the critically acclaimed Blue Ruin and the favorable Green Room. This low-budget splatter film is cheaply shot yet it has some comedic value. There really is nothing amazing about Murder Party, but there is some mild fun to be had.

HELLO MURDERER
2010
Directed by Dong-wook Kim

An incompetent detective and an unemployed man both try to catch a serial killer that commits his crimes in a specific area every rainy Thursday.

If you can't stand the romantic melodrama of a lot of South Korea movies and TV dramas, then seek out this horror/thriller comedy also known as Happy Killers. It's a refreshing change of pace. And you know that one hilarious reaction GIF? It's from this movie.

FREAKS OF NATURE
2015
Directed by Robbie Pickering

Aliens suddenly invade a small town where humans coexist with vampires & zombies.

This movie completely flopped in theaters, but those who did see it seem to like it. And what's not to like in this horror comedy? A committed cast of familiar faces dole out some quirky and self-deprecating one liners while trying to survive what is essentially an apocalypse.

THE FINAL GIRLS
2015
Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson

Along with her friends, a young woman is somehow transported into the world of an '80s slasher that stars her late mother.

The PG-13 rating may deter some potential new viewers, but reconsider as this is one of the better horror comedies in recent years. It doesn't try to outdo Scream, which was another cheeky horror movie about slashers. The Final Girls calls out the tropes while trying to maintain its own identity. The finale is surprisingly touching, too.

THE COTTAGE
2008
Directed by Paul Andrew Williams

Everything goes wrong during a ransom. Two brothers soon find themselves at the mercy of a sadistic farmer while hiding out in a countryside cottage.

The British really know how to make a horror comedy as The Cottage is proof of that. It blends horror and humor so well it's actually quite frightening.

BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON
2006
Directed by Scott Glosserman

In hopes of making a name for himself, a serial killer fashioning himself after other horror legends gives a documentary crew full access to his life.

If you enjoy slashers - good and bad - you should really give this mockumentary a try. It points out the problems with the genre as well as the cliches fans love to hate. There is also a twist near the end that you may see coming a mile away.

BLACK SHEEP
2006
Directed by Jonathan King

Genetic engineering in New Zealand leads to the creation of carnivorous sheep with voracious appetites for human flesh.

Fans of Braindead and creature features should hunt down this imported splatter comedy about killer sheep.

THE BABYSITTER
2017
Directed by McG

A 12-year old decides to stay up one night to see what his babysitter does after he goes to bed. He'll wish he never did.

The creator of the The O.C. delivers an asinine horror comedy that's a good waste of 80-something minutes. Nothing deep or amazing. Yet plenty of chuckles and guffaw worthy moments. The young protagonist in the movie may be a bit too stupid at times, but hey, everything else pretty much works.

TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL
2010
Directed by Eli Craig

Two likable yet not the smartest men are mistaken for murderers as a group of college students start to die around them.

Some good laughs are to be found in this affable horror-com. Tucker vs Dale is great for group viewings.

LAKE PLACID
1999
Directed by Steve Miner

A group of unlikely heroes tries to apprehend a giant killer crocodile preying on locals in a Maine lake.

Critics panned this croc flick back in 1999, but Lake Placid is hardly the worst B-movie out there. The biting sarcastic humor and obnoxious characters could be deterrents, though.

BETTER WATCH OUT
2006
Directed by Chris Peckover

A babysitter and her charge protect themselves as someone breaks into the house.

The plot sounds familiar, but there's a twist in Better Watch Out (previously called Safe Neighborhood) that changes everything. Fans of dark comedy might like this one.

HOUSEBOUND
2014
Directed by Gerard Johnstone

While under house arrest at her childhood home, a woman suspects something evil is lurking about.

This New Zealand comedy is both invigorating and hilarious. There's no reason to remake this.

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS
2014
Directed by Jermaine Clement, Taika Waititi

Vampires struggle to fit in with modern society.

This New Zealand mockumentary about vampires manages to succeed by featurng memorable characters and some most welcome dry humor.

BRAIN DAMAGE
1988
Directed by Frank Henenlotter

A man becomes addicted to a bizarre creature that attaches to his brain stem. In return for indescribable euphoria, the man has to feed the creature human victims.

Brain Damage isn't what would be considered comedic because of the dialogue. The humor lies within the execution, which is campy in the way that only '80s horror movies can do so perfectly.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 10 Horror Movies Where Camping Leads to Trouble

The Ritual© 2017 eOne Films, Netflix

"Camping is nature's way of promoting the motel business."
- Dave Barry

In this hectic, no-sleep society, people often have a desire to get away from it all. And "returning" to nature is a typical choice for those who feel this way. Purchasing expensive gear, packing without overpacking, and being mindful of your surroundings. There's a lot to plan for when one goes camping. But what can you do to prevent murder?

The following ten entries are just some of the horror movies and thrillers about camping trips gone totally awry. They might make you rethink that visit to the great outdoors.

EDEN LAKE
2008
Directed by James Watkins

A couple's retreat at a lake is interrupted by the presence of some local youths, whose immature behavior and antics quickly escalate into acts of terror and violence.

Eden Lake came and went during the torture boom of 2000s horror. The urge to use horror movies as a form of catharsis had peaked. Even as fans decried the exploitative violence in new movies coming out, they still flocked to see what gnarly forms of physical punishment filmmakers were willing to depict on screen. In comparison to its brethren at the time, Eden Lake, a movie that comments on "hoodie" culture in the UK with not much recourse or nuance, is tame. At least viscerally. The emotional anguish and torture is what lingers with audiences. Particularly the mean-spirited, dour ending that repels many to ever revisit Eden Lake.

JUST BEFORE DAWN
1981
Directed by Jeff Lieberman

A group of campers are warned about a homicidal maniac in the area as they set up camp in the woods. Soon, they will have wished they had listened to the warnings.

1978 to 1984 is considered by fans to be the golden era of slasher movies. It was also a very frustrating time for critics as theaters were inundated with slasher after slasher, each one trying to cash in on or emulate the success of Halloween or Friday the 13th. The lesser known Just Before Dawn takes more of its cues from Deliverance, but aimed toward a younger crowd. By today's standards, Just Before Dawn isn't exactly shocking or groundbreaking. It is, though, a solid slasher set in the woods with one of the most unique methods of taking out the killer ever.

LONG WEEKEND
1978
Directed by Colin Eggleston

A couple's beachside camping trip is plagued by strange incidents, all stemming from their mistreatment of nature.

The 1970s was a time of ample "nature's revenge" type horror movies. Jaws really set off the trend, but these movies where animals turn on humans go back even further. It should be noted that political and social activism was especially big at the time because of the Vietnam War and civil rights issues. Advocacy for animals' rights was a hot topic, too, as vegetarianism and veganism were both spreading across the U.S. So it was no wonder that movies about animals not tolerating human destruction of nature were no longer entirely seen as subversive in the horror genre. Long Weekend is an eerie import from Australia. It's far more subtle than other similarly themed features. It's really the unexplainable origins of these bizarre situations that leave one unsettled than the actual acts. Urban Legends and Valentine director Jamie Blanks directed a serviceable remake in 2009 that goes under the original's name, too, or by Nature's Grave in other areas.

SOLO
2013
Directed by Isaac Cravit

When a new camp counselor has to go camping for two nights by herself on an island as part of her initiation, she soon learns she's not so alone after all.

This Canadian thriller starring a Degrassi alumnus may not sound like the best way to spend your night, but one might be surprised by the fairly obscure Solo. The protagonist has anxiety issues stemming from a personal trauma, which isn't atypical to horror. While the ending does enter standard survival-horror territory, both the cinematography and the lead's performance elevate it slightly above similar movies.

PRESERVATION
2014
Directed by Christopher Denham

To escape their worries at home temporarily, a man, his wife, and his brother all go on a secluded hunting trip. But once their belongings are stolen and their foreheads are each marked with an "X," the three realize that someone is watching them.

The director of the underrated and bizarre Home Movie delivered something more mainstream with his follow-up movie Preservation. While this survival thriller boasts some lush scenery visuals, the story is far from original. The ending does engage in the hackneyed idea in horror that homicide can be an extracurricular activity.

CRUEL SUMMER
2016
Directed by Phillip Escott, Craig Newman

Three youths take things too far when they harass a solitary camper with Autism.

It should be difficult for anyone to watch this British thriller, which is actually not based on any specific event in spite of what the movie or its promotion both say. Director Phillip Escott has stated Cruel Summer is commentary on youth culture in the UK. The acts carried out by the antagonists are inhuman and unsettling. Unless one is hard-pressed to watch someone so innocent be tortured on screen for twenty minutes, then it might be best to avoid this distubing drama disguised as a horror movie.

WILDERNESS
2006
Directed by Michael J. Bassett

Juvenile delinquents fight for survival on a small British island as someone hunts them down.

The person slaying the whole of the cast could be construed as the antagonist, but there are multiple villains in yet another cinematic commentary on troublesome British youth. Wilderness draws from not only slashers but the outdoor survival thrillers that pop up irregularly in horror.

BACKCOUNTRY
2014
Directed by Adam MacDonald

As a city couple gets lost in the woods, they encounter a territorial black bear.

The predatory bear in Backcountry is a convenient foil that appears amid the couple's falling-out. The creature is no more subtle than the drama pervading the central human characters, but the execution of it all is the highlight here. The depicted bear attack in the movie is notably realistic and downright disturbing to view.

THE RITUAL
2017
Directed by David Bruckner

As a group of friends reunites after a tragedy befell one of their own, they are stalked by a menacing force in the forest.

This adaptation of a novel by the same name written by Adam Nevill sounds like a standard creature feature on paper, but The Ritual is more than that. Using horror, the movie deals with grief and survivor's guilt. The story eventually becomes nightmarish and surreal as a way to convey the protagonist's anguish.

LAKE BODOM
2016
Directed by Taneli Mustonen

When college students go to Lake Bodom, where campers were murdered in 1960, history starts to repeat itself.

This Finnish import is loosely inspired by the unsolved true crime known as the Lake Bodom Murders. It of course takes liberties with the story because it is fictional. There is a twist halfway in that changes viewers' entire perspective, but then there is another turn of events that nearly detracts from the overall movie.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 15 Horror & Suspense Movies About Social Media & the Internet

"The Internet has been a boon and a curse for teenagers"
- J.K. Rowling

It's hard to get around these days without some familiarity with the Internet. Refusal to learn is a blessing for some and a curse for others. Ignorance of the digital era might work well for the neophobic, but for those who have had a taste may become in a way "addicted" to the instant gratification brought about by the Internet. Whether it be through the immediacy of online shopping or by social media, the Internet can get its hooks in you without trying too hard.

Teenagers and millennials have grown up with the Internet so they generally don't view it as the evil dark place that older generations assume it is. Not to say there isn't a sinister side, but remember, the Internet is only an extension of humanity and everything good and bad about it.

While the Internet has become a staple in everyday life, the horror genre still only has a small number of movies devoted solely to it. And many of those are so exaggerated in content that it's no wonder so many people fear the World Wide Web. Rest assured, no matter how scary these movies make the Internet out to be, always remember: every computer and phone can be turned off.

UNFRIENDED
2014
Directed by Leo Gabriadze

UNFRIENDED: DARK WEB
2018
Directed by Stephen Susco

Unfriended: A group of high school students chatting online together are menaced by a malevolent presence.

Unfriended: Dark Web: After a man takes a laptop from a lost-and-found, he and his friends become entangled in a dangerous predicament.

Originally called "Cybernatural," Unfriended is a paranormal take on the evils of social media and technology. While the idea of a ghost popping up in your online chats is preposterous, the anecdote of someone's humiliation going viral sending that person to suicide isn't too far removed from reality.

Believe it or not, the standalone sequel is more ridiculous than it predecessor. For one, it's as if the writer had no idea how the Internet or computers really works. Everything that happens to the protagonists in Dark Web -- which by the way is horrific -- is mostly possible, but not at the speed seen in the movie. So it's arguable that this sequel has a supernatural element to it, too.

HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION
2002
Directed by Rick Rosenthal

Michael Myers returns to his childhood to find it filled with a reality show's crew and cast, all of whom are now his potential victims.

Halloween: Resurrection is a lesson in what not to do when making a movie. The inclusions of reality TV and overzealously hip lingo date this slasher before it ever takes off. Or rather, tries to. That's not to say a horror movie can't incorporate topical trends. There just has to be a way to do so without the movie coming off like some skewed and erroneous idea of what youth culture is supposedly like. Tangent aside, is Resurrection at least entertaining enough to endure for an hour and a half? If you can ignore the opening sequence and absurd explanation for Michael's survival from the previous entry, the chases throughout the Myers abode in the third act are fun. You just have to sit through a lot of excruciating Busta Rhymes scenes. It's a shame that the director of the oft undervalued Halloween II (1981) was the director of this mess.

MEGAN IS MISSING
2011
Directed by Michael Goi

Two best friends meet a boy they thought was their age online. When one of them goes to meet him, she is never heard from again.

Megan is Missing is an over-the-top "stranger danger" picture that suffers from some of the most inept, unconvincing acting to grace film. When the actors aren't embarrassing themselves, they're subjected to an inordinate scenario that is more rooted in urban myth than truth. The torture porn finale is near unbearable to watch.

PULSE
2001
Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa

Several people believe that spirits are trying to invade the human realm through the Internet.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Pulse is a slow burn that builds tension until audiences are ready for the denouement they crave. In 2006, a mediocre English remake was released. It and its two sequels should be avoided at all costs.

MY LITTLE EYE
2002
Directed by Marc Evans

Five people, who are offered to live together in an isolated mansion for the chance to win one million dollars while being watched online, become paranoid in the six months they live together.

Internet was finally becoming more common in households in the early 2000s. And simultaneously the reality television boom had started to nestle itself in the body of entertainment, unable to be removed no matter how hard we tried. So why not combine the two in a horror movie? In 1999, though, a movie by the name of Kolobos did something very similar. My Little Eye may not be completely original, but it is still a splendid psychological thriller that stays contemporary without becoming immediately outdated.

STRANGELAND
1998
Directed by Dee Snider

A detective hunts down a sadistic serial killer who uses the Internet to lure in victims.

Films like this really did no favors for kids and teenagers wanting their parents to buy them computers and sign up for Internet service. This police procedural thriller is an extreme and demoralizing cautionary tale.

TRAGEDY GIRLS
2017
Directed by Tyler MacIntyre

Two macabre teenagers obsessed with both death and their online presence get wrapped up in a local murderer's killing spree.

This movie is a total hyperbole of the effect the Internet has on the youth, but Tragedy Girls is a delightfully dark comedy that also subverts the slasher sub-genre.

RATTER
2015
Directed by Branden Kramer

A student does not realize that someone has hacked her electronic devices, and he is now watching her every move.

Ratter, starring Ashley Benson of Pretty Little Liars, is a sad tale indeed. It ends the way you expect it would. So there's really not much reason to view this grim depiction of online stalking.

CHATROOM
2010
Directed by Hideo Nakata

Young strangers that meet in a chatroom that encourages bad behavior have their lives turned upside down when one of them reveals his truly sinister nature.

From the director of the original The Ring comes this cyber thriller based on a play. Despite the talent involved and an attempt to show loneliness and manipulation, Chatroom is too convoluted for its own good.

BAD MATCH
2017
Directed by Paul Ziller

After meeting a woman on a dating app, an Internet playboy's life spins out of control.

Everyone's gone on a bad date before. And most people meet and date online today. So why are there so few movies about the potential terrors of Internet dating? Bad Match attempts to rectify this, but the man in this is so unpleasant that it's nearly impossible to care about the outcome of the story. Which, admittedly, is unexpected.

THE DEN
2013
Directed by Zachary Donohue

After a sociology grad student studying webcam users witnesses a murder online, she becomes the killers' next target.

The Den is a wild ride on the surface. It is as terrifying as it is disproportionate. The antagonists in the movie are anonymous and flat, devoid of any traits other than those befitting a movie of this caliber. If you want some quick thrills with not much of anything else, visit The Den.

FRIEND REQUEST
2016
Directed by Simon Verhoeven

When a college student rejects a peer that wants to be her friend, she and her friends are preyed upon by a demonic force.

The title would make it seem like this movie would entail commentary about social media, but Friend Request is more attuned to horror stories about humans acting human and then being punished for it. The protagonist's behavior isn't exemplary, but for her and her friends to be punished in the ways they were is excessive, even by teen popcorn horror standards. So by that, Friend Request is more a tale about extreme, fantasized reactions to rejection.

ANTISOCIAL
2013
Directed by Cody Calahan

A pandemic strikes on New Year's Eve, stirring up paranoia among a small group of friends. Through social media and the Internet, they come to learn that there's a disease going around that causes individuals to behave violently. One by one, the group experiences symptoms...

This indie movie takes the idea of computers and technology being harmful to a whole other level. The high concept of Antisocial never gets the fleshing out that it deserves so the end result leaves much to be desired. A sequel was released in 2015.

Like.Share.Follow
2017
Directed by Glenn Gers

A popular YouTube personality is stalked by an obsessed fan who will go to extreme lengths to have him all to herself.

This cable thriller features a cinematic erotomaniac (or as Allison Yarrow put it in her book 90s Bitch, a "Fatal Attraction type"), a role especially prevalent in '80s and '90s thrillers. Women characters are written to be so controlled by their lust or obsession over a man, they are driven to pure mania and acts of violence. In Like.Share.Follow, the male protagonist becomes the victim of an  unbalanced follower of his web content. When he rejects her, she retaliates. The last act of the movie enters slasher territory, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The film is also not wholly bad - it's just incredibly generic. It does indulge in commentary on today's Internet climate, though. After the stalker posts a TMI video for the world to see, she goes viral. Which leads the main character to ask his fans to lay off her because he thinks she's mentally ill. So the movie is at least aware of how casual we are today with mocking those that can't conform to on and offline social norms. Other than that, Like.Share.Follow doesn't make an argument that spares the Internet of being responsible for doxxing and stalking. We're just led to believe that this is as normal as Internet celebritydom.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 5 Scary Urban Legends Seen in Movies & Television

$

"Every town has its legends, every neighborhood has its boogeymen."
- Killer Legends

Storytelling is our greatest pastime. It's something that will never go out of style. It's out we can communicate our thoughts, desires, and most importantly: our fears.

An urban legend (or myth) is a contemporary piece of folklore that originated in the modern age. Every day, a new urban legend is in the works. Many are benign and fun, but then there are those about homicidal madmen that can make your skin crawl on first listen. We can poke holes through these myths using common logic and science, but what's the fun in that?

So here are five creepy urban legends to make you question whether or not you locked your front door.

The Clown Statue

The legend: A babysitter staying at a strange house is approached by her young charge. She says she can't sleep in her room because of the clown statue that keeps talking to her. The babysitter sends her back to her room without paying much attention to what the child has said. The kid returns with the same complaint. Finally, the babysitter calls the parents and asks if it'd be okay if she moved the clown statue out of the daughter's room. The parent on the other end of the call tells the babysitter to leave the house with their daughter; they don't own a clown statute.

Background: This fairly recent horror legend originated in the early 2000s. The myth is inspired by the classic "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs" story, which is said to be commentary on women who hire others to care for their kids rather than taking care of the children themselves. That origin legend is loosely based on a real case from 1950 where a Columbia, Missouri babysitter was actually murdered after calling the police for help. The killer was neve caught.

In other variations of the clown tale, the babysitter is the one who is being creeped out by the statue. The story takes a more violent turn as the clown reveals itself to be a knife-wielding maniac.

In the media: The legend inspired one of the segments in the 2008 movie Amusement. Though there the clown is a life-sized doll, not a statue.

Killer in the Backseat

The legend: A woman driving home is being followed by a truck, whose driver continues to flash his bright lights every so often. He finally forces the woman to pull over on the side of the road. But instead of attacking the woman, the other driver opens the backdoor and removes a man. The truck driver was flashing his lights every time the armed man in the backseat was reaching up to attack the woman. A variation of the story has the woman stopping at a gas station, and the attendant pumping her gas asks her to come inside the station because her credit card doesn't work. There, he tells her that there's a man with a knife in her backseat and the police have been called.

Background: This cautionary tale about women driving emerged arond the late '60s. It shows how naturally distrustful we can be when someone really wants to help. Back in those days, though, that moral may have been understandable.

In the media: Quite possibly the most well-known visual depiction of this story is in the 1998 teen slasher aptly titled Urban Legend. The only gripe critics have with that stellar opening is the fact that you physically cannot swing an ax like that in a car.

Another horror movie that tackled the myth was in 1983's Nightmares, an omnibus made up of four segments originally conceived for an NBC television series that never came to be (and was not the short-lived Darkroom, as many have long believed until the Blu-ray's commentary revealed the truth). In the first story "Terror in Topanga," a woman is so desperate for cigarettes, she goes out to buy some despite there being reports of a killer lurking around town. This tale uses the gas station attendant version of the legend.

In the TV show Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, one of the stories, "Bright Lights," is based on the telling of the legend where the driver is being chased by the truck driver. The gimmick of Beyond Belief is to guess which of the shared stories are based on fact or fiction. They of course listed "Bright Lights" as "fiction."

Chris Carter of The X-Files fame created another series, Millennium, that aired on FOX in the late '90s. In a season two episode called "The Pest House," a serial killer commits crimes inspired by urban legends. This includes the "Killer in the Backseat" myth. Again, the "high beams" variation is used.

The Boyfriend's Death/The Hook

The legend: In "The Boyfriend's Death," a couple parked out in the middle of nowhere has some car trouble. So the boyfriend goes to get help. Thus leaving the girlfriend all by herself. As she waits his return throughout the night, she eventually hears a scraping sound against the roof. The repetitve noise becomes unbearable, and she cries herself to sleep. The next morning, the boyfriend has not returned, and the scraping sound is still present. A cop approaches the car and asks the girlfriend to step out and walk with him. He specifically tells her not to look back at the car, but she does so anyway. And that's when she sees it - suspended from the tree branch above the car is her boyfriend's dead body with his hands scraping the car roof.

In "The Hook," a similar scenario begins with a couple parked somewhere, fooling around. They hear on the radio about a killer prowling the area. He is identifiable by the hook in place of one hand. The girlfriend begs her boyfriend to drive off, which he finally does. As he drives away, a distinct noise on the girlfriend's side of the car is heard. Back at the girlfriend's house, the boyfriend walks around the car to let her out. He stops in his tracks because of what he sees hanging from the passenger door handle - a bloody hook.

Background: "The Hook" has been around since the 1950s, and it likely inspired "The Boyfriend's Death." There had been reports of youths dying somehow during makeout sessions, and most likely, people spun those stories into these specific urban legends. It goes without saying that both myths were often told to teenagers and college students as a way to keep them chaste.

In the media: "The Boyfriend's Death" was one of the myths depicted in 1998's slasher Urban Legend. Although the screenplay spins it to where the heroine is the one who unknowingly seals the young man's fate.

Supernatural took both legends and warped them as well as other popular scary stories for the episode "Hook Man."

The eponymous vilain in Candyman had a hook for a hand, and the Fisherman killer in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise brandished a similar weapon, too.

It being so popular, "The Hook" has been touched upon in movies and TV so much that it would take a lot of space and time to talk about.

The Licked Hand

The legend: A young girl left home alone with her dog finds comfort when the pet licks her hand from underneath her bed. Through the night, the girl drops her hand to the floor, allowing her dog to lick it. When she hears a noise in the house, she goes to make sure the home is secure. One door was unlocked. She locks it and returns to bed, seeking comfort from her dog underneath. She's soothed by her unseen companion's licking. The next morning, she wakes up and sees written in blood on her mirror: "Humans can lick, too." The dog is then found dead in the bathroom.

Background: Elements of this urban legend go back as far as 1871, but the modern version didn't make rounds until the 1980s apparently. Most consider it and the "Aren't You Glad You Didn't Turn On the Lights?" myth to be one and the same. There is a variation where the victim wakes up to find her dead pet hanging in the bathroom/her roommate murdered and the famous message scrawled on her mirror, but the "licked hand" motif is missing altogether. The iteration with the roommate also ties into "The Roommate's Death," where either the protagonist's roommate is killed in the very same room as her, or the roommate is attacked outside their dorm room/apartment, and she claws at the front door in hopes of her peer opening up to save her.

In the media: The 1997 anthology Campire Tales has a whole story devoted to the "licked hand" variation. In it, an Internet predator tracks down the home of a child he's been stalking online.

The Canadian children's show Freaky Stories had a more innocent take where the licker is just a relatively harmless weirdo who directly tells the girl "I can lick, too" as he leaves her property.

In the second sequel to 1998's Urban Legend subtitled Bloody Mary, a teenage boy is made the victim. The first sequel, Final Cut, also referenced the legend.

Supernatural covered the myth in the episode "Family Remains."

Scream Session

The legend: On the eve of final exams at a college campus, students stop studying at midnight and gather. Collectively, they all scream, unleashing their anguish over exams. During this time, someone takes advantage of the noise and assaults or murders another student.

Background: It's not surprising that many universities have unusual traditions for boosting morale. In fact, some colleges did or still do participate in campus wide scream sessions during finals. There have been a number of cases where a victim's pleas or screams were ignored by bystanders, but nothing exactly like in the legend has been officially reported.

In the media: The film students in Urban Legends: Final Cut film a scene about this legend. And by no coincidence, a member of the film crew is murdered during the recording session.

In the 1981 thriller Blow Out, a slasher film sound editor ultimately uses his girlfriend's death scream as part of the soundtrack for a movie he's editing. His colleagues are none the wiser as they don't realize the scream isn't performed. Not exactly the same as the urban legend, but it may have been an inspiration for the movie's denouement.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 10 Horror Movies & Sci-Fi Thrillers About Altered Time

$

"The past is obdurate."
- Stephen King, 11/22/63

At many points in life, people have wished for a "reset" function that would undo a troublesome event in life. But if such a thing did exist, should it be used? Or is fate sealed and no matter our actions to try to prevent something, will the inevitable remain intact? Ignoring the ethical compliations of time tampering, should the past be left alone?

Horror and science fiction have both tinkered with the idea of altering time. The results are usually negative or not desirable in the very least. In the very end, their collective and overall message seems to be that what's meant to happen will eventually happen.

So here are ten horror and sci-fi thrillers heavily based around time travel as well as time loops.

DONNIE DARKO
2001
Directed by Richard Kelly

Set in 1988, an American teenager's life changes after escaping death. He starts to experience episodes where he can't tell if he's awake or dreaming, or if he's possibly living in another reality.

It seems like the cool hip thing nowadays is to hate this movie. But back in the day of its quiet release, Donnie Darko intrigued viewers as it was a very different kind of teen movie for the time. Pretenious? Yes. Overrated? Probably. But Donnie Darko is an undeniably fascinating film with a great cast.

TIMECRIMES
2007
Directed by Nacho Vigalondo

An ordinary man ends up falling into a time machine that sends him back an hour in the past. He races to find himself before tragedy strikes.

This Spanish sci-fi thriller is quite the head trip so be forewarned when watching. There's a lot to unpack and it's best to watch with undivided attention. That being said, new viewers are in for quite the ride.

HAPPY DEATH DAY
2017
Directed by Christopher Landon

A college student named Tree finds herself repeating the same day again and again. And each time, a masked killer is stalking her. Until she solves her own murder, Tree will be stuck in the time loop.

For those who don't really care for slashers, Happy Death Day may be for you. It has elements of a slasher, but it's really more of a Groundhog Day inspired comedy with a horror angle. Jessica Rothe plays the protagonist amazingly well as she manages to bring humanity to the initially off-putting character. The identity of the killer isn't exactly impossible to guess, though. A sequel is set for release on Valentine's Day 2019.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
2004
Directed by Eric Bress, J. Mackye Gruber

A college student with the ability to travel back in time to specific points in his life causes a ripple effect when he changes the past.

The science in this sci-fi drama is suspect, but The Butterfly Effect is an emotionally wrenching and often disturbing take on how humans constantly ask themselves, "What if?" There are sequels. That is all you need to know about them.

A SOUND OF THUNDER
2005
Directed by Peter Hyams

After traveling back to prehistoric times, a scientist sets off a chain of events that dramatically changes the future.

Ray Bradbury was likely embarrassed of this adaptation of his work of the same name. Yet if you can separate that from this movie and appreciate it as only a creature feature, A Sound of Thunder is tolerable sci-fi fluff.

DETENTION
2011
Directed by Joseph Kahn

A group of students stuck in detention try to survive as well as stop a killer dressed as a villain from a horror movie.

Joseph Kahn is a prominent music video director (Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, etc.) who has been caught running his mouth too much in recent years. That withstanding, one of his feature-length films is the meta-horror comedy Detention. It's fast-paced and borders on asinine, but you can't say it's not entertaining.

TIME LAPSE
2014
Directed by Bradley King

Trouble unfolds for three people after they discover a camera which takes pictures that show what will happen in twenty-four hours.

Time Lapse is a moody slice of eerie, self-contained science fiction that shows how much can change in just one day. It's a simple gem that's effective because of the atmosphere and the setting.

MINE GAMES
2012
Directed by Richard Gray

A group of friends discover something incomprehensible inside an abandoned mine.

Without giving too much away, Mine Games is a commendable effort even if it's far from perfect. The premise is exciting, but the execution is awkward.

SEVEN IN HEAVEN
2018
Directed by Chris Eigeman

Two teenagers become trapped in a dangerous time loop after entering a mysterious closet during a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven.

This Blumhouse production is a confusing sci-fi drama that misses the mark overall, but it at least tries to be different. And effort is better than none at all.

TRIANGLE
2009
Directed by Christopher Smith

When a group of friends in a yachting accident seek refuge on a cruise ship, they enter a nightmare they may never escape.

Triangle is a bizarre and complex slasher mystery that stands out among its peers. Whatever you think you know, disregard and prepare yourself.

ONTD Halloween Original™: 10 Horror Movies Set in Private & Boarding Schools

$

Boarding School© 2018 Momentum Pictures

"I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."
- Mark Twain

A common trope in horror movies to get the protagonist isolated or feeling as such is to ship them off to somewhere new and unfamiliar. This occurs especially with younger characters still in school. Going off to college or better yet: being entered into a private educational institution of some sort. The remote or stiff locations alone can make for some instant suspense.

So for the curriculum today, below are ten horror movies set within private or boarding schools.

THE WOODS
2006
Directed by Lucky McKee

Set in 1965, strange things happen at an all-girls' school after a new student arrives.

Lucky McKee taps into aspects of womanhood in his horror movies: May, The Woman, All Cheerleaders Die, and this underrated movie about adolescence and witchery.

TO ALL A GOODNIGHT
1980
Directed by David Hess

Some students at a women's finishing school decide to stay behind over Christmas break. They invite some men over, which is against the rules. Eventually, people start to go missing. The cops are brought in the protect the house, but it's of no use - a killer dressed as Santa Claus is out for blood.

If it wasn't for the first scene and the following one, viewers would forget this movie even takes place at a women-only school. Most of the action in this forgotten, trashy slasher takes place in the protagonists' house.

DEADLY LESSONS
1983
Directed by Renny Harlin

The students at an exclusive boarding school in the summer are killed off one by one by an unseen killer.

Ally Sheedy and the voice of Bart Simpson are among the cast of this obscure TV-made slasher mystery. While the movie doesn't have any gore or scares, Deadly Lessons is still a hidden gem.

JENNIFER
1978
Directed by Brice Mack

When pushed past her limit, a scholarship student at an elite school uses her supernatural ability to control snakes to punish her bullies.

This is a blatant Carrie ripoff: a social outcast, whose parent is a religious fanatic, has a mysterious psychic power that aids in her vengeance against her wicked classmates. Though nowhere as profound or well-made. That being said, Jennifer is more watchable than it deserves to be. The finale is especially bizarre and eerily executed.

THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER
2015
Directed by Oz Perkins

Two students left behind at a boarding school are faced with an evil entity.

Anyone wanting a straightforward ghost movie will be sorely disappointed with The Blackcoat's Daughter (a.k.a. February). It's told in a non-linear fashion and the answers aren't always there when you want them. You may end up hating it on first watch, but give it another watch. And keep an open mind.

CREEPERS / PHENOMENA
1985
Directed by Dario Argento

A teenager uses her ability to communicate with insects to solve a murder mystery at her Swiss boarding school.

Dario Argento leaves viewers rather divisive about his work. You either love the aesthetic style and forgive the lack of substance or story coherence, or you shun the movies for those very same things. Jennifer Connelly made her leading role debut with Phenomena, which is possibly one of Argento's best yet it hardly gets the same amount of recognition as his other movies. It's not void of the issues many critics have with Dario's filmography or giallo in general, but there's something charming about this one. Maybe it's Connelly's green performance or the appealing setting and cast (which includes Donald Pleasence). Whatever it is, Phenomena should be cherished.

THE MOTH DIARIES
2011
Directed by Mary Harron

A boarding school student beomes suspicious that her new classmate isn't who she appears to be.

The poster may be trying to mime Twilight, but there is nothing glittery about The Moth Diaries. This lesbian fantasy vampire film is not without problems. It was roasted by critics during its release, and many of their reviews are valid. However, the movie has artistic merit at the very least.

BOARDING SCHOOL
2018
Directed by Boaz Yakin

When a teenage boy fascinated with dressing up as his late grandmother is sent to a mysterious boarding school, he and his classmates discover they are in imminent danger.

Anyone who has seen their share of giallo films will see the influence of those movies in Boarding School, which is equal parts intriguing and unsettling.

Cry_Wolf
2005
Directed by Jeff Wadlow

A new scholarship student at an elite boarding school is thrown directly into the middle of a campus mystery as a masked killer stalks the student body.

Anyone who was expecting a traditional and gory teen slasher was likely disappointed with this PG-13 thriller. Without giving too much away as the movie relies on details, Cry_Wolf is more clever than it deserves to be. But by no means is it a classically honed and thoughtful piece of horror.

THE SILENCED
2015
Directed by Hae-young Lee

Set in 1938 during the Japanese occupation of Korea, a teenager sent to a boarding school must uncover the academy's hidden secrets in order to survive.

Some have called this Suspiria of South Korean cinema, but that may be a bit too dramatic of a comparison. The Silenced stands on its own as a bizarre period arthouse thriller with overtly psychosexual lesbian elements. The ending is also astroundinly strange.

ny knide.gif

Is there anything scarier than kissing Flavor Flav's ashy lips, or Bret Michaels's lipstick-smeared mouth? VH1's classic reality shows like Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, I Love New York, and Charm School had some pretty terrifying moments.

These are the 10 most TERRIFYING moments from the VH1 "Of Love" shows.

10) Brittany Starr Steals Socks and Blood Ketchup

The girls smelled a terrible smell on the Rock of Love Bus. Was it a dead body?? No… It was a bunch of sweat socks and ketchup.
Brittany Starr went into the other girls’ lockers and stole their used socks. Then, she stored ketchup packets in the socks.

maybe i'm a little bit psycho.gif

9) New York Is Nearly Trampled… By A Wild Horse!

Flavor Flav decides to take the girls to a vineyard… but first, he decides to victimize New York... by making her ride a dangerous horse! Tiffany is nearly thrown off to her death.

8) New York’s Mom Is Terrorized By A Man’s Gross Thighs

The day started out like any other. New York just wanted to look at some sexy men with her mom. But then… T-weed showed off his gross inner thighs. He had a “green, mossy area” that was on his thighs. Terrifying.

7) Killer Kids

The most terrifying creatures of them all-- children! The Rock of Love Girls are imprisoned in a kiddie pool and forced to be slaves to monstrous children. Then, the I Love New York boys are held captive at a princess party for evil little girls.

6) Megan Must Faces The Uglies

On Charm School, Megan was forced to confront several non-conventionally attractive people. It was terrifying.

5) Talkin Bout Toxic Masculinity

Men are fucking scarier than every other monster, ghoul, ghost or demon. Every chick has some horror story about men. The Charm School girls talked about their stalkers, molesters, rapists, and abusive fathers. They overcome their fear by continuing to be bitches to each other being strong women together.

4) Buckeey And Another Bitch On A Balcony

In The Omen, the nanny of Damien jumps off the roof, hanging herself. But on Flavor of Love 2, Buckeey and Krazy get in a fight on the balcony and Buckey almost pushes Krazy… to her doom!

3) Hos In A Hospital

The girls from Charm School 3 must face their fears by going to an abandoned hospital that is supposedly haunted. They do a bunch of challenges in spooky areas that were definitely not staged.

2) A Bear Attacks Hottie’s Head

Hottie, aka Beyonce’s lookalike, went through a season of Flavor of Love and a season of Charm School… without realizing that there was a wild animal attacking her head!!!!

ONTD Original: An Examination of Sandra Lee’s Kwanzaa Cake

$
0
0
Despite the Ministry bop, everyday is not Halloween and now that we’ve entered a new month, corporations are putting on those Mariah Carey iconic holiday bops and getting ready for White Santa’s arrival while you shop until you drop. Now that we’re entering the holiday season, you’ve got food on the brain and googling new recipes to impress your ain’t shit boyfriends.

And what’s a holiday season without purveying Semi Homemade Sandra Lee’s culinary experiments? OP would like to reintroduce you to her Kwanzaa Cake.

OP knows what you are thinking… Is she not a white woman? What is a Kwanzaa Cake? Who is Kwanzaa? Yes, Sandra Lee, known for her extensive knowledge of the African diaspora brings us this glorious dish. There have been posts about this before but let’s take an "in depth" examination as to what comprises this food adjacent object.

The cake has gained notoriety in the past decade and here’s what Head Negress/ First Lady of New York had to say about her gift to the black community and what Anthony Bourdain had to say about her “crime against humanity”:“Kwanzaa is about harvest. I celebrate every holiday… It’s shtick. That’s how some people get their press. There are 17 million children in this country going hungry every day, and we’re worried about my Kwanzaa cake from 10 years ago? That’s what I think is ridiculous. Yes, I can laugh about it.” Ah yes, she is laughing about it… overcoming trials and tribulations everyday - OP is ready to march alongside ha. *hums* We shall overcome... and thinking of the starving children?!?!?!?!?!?

Let’s get into the components of this Kwanzaa cake, complete with white nonsense, obnoxious candles and diabetes.

Ingredients (Whew chile, the ghetto!)
Betty Crocker box of Angel Food Cake mix – starting off lazy, but hey that’s ha thing. We don’t even see her follow the box directions, a cake just shows up even though one of the seven pillars of Kwanzaa is Self-Determination. While Googling traditional Kwanzaa dishes, a harvest cake doesn't seem to show up, more traditional West African dishes and desserts.Cut that bad boy in half. OP is not surprised that it’s not three-fifths.

Icing (“store bought from a can”) – don’t worry we’re going to flavor it with cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla (what kind of racial harmony goddess). In OP’s opinion, the frosting looks a little LightSkint. Then slap that frosting on the Angel Food cake halves the way Ariana Grande and Rachel Dolezeal slap on that bronzer.

And then in the center of this light skinnded cakes, put in some Apple Pie filling. (I feel like there’s an allegory that can be made about this cake and America but OP’s black ass head hurts just thinking about the state of this country so she stopped).

Now to decorate and make it look pretty so you don’t see this disaster that is truly the inside much like Ivanka Trump. Top it off with acorns! No – the producers couldn’t crack those on time so we’re going on camera with the corn nuts. But let’s call them acorns anyway. Here she demonstrates yet another pillar of Kwanzaa, Kuumba (Creativity) and pumpkin seeds - not one damn yam in sight. OP might be taking away Sandra's black card.

In the end she calls her cake "wonderful" in the most delightful dose of white mediocrity.

Cara Delevingne

Struggles/struggled with depression.

"I hated myself for being depressed, I hated feeling depressed, I hated feeling. I was very good at disassociating from emotion completely. And all the time I was second-guessing myself, saying something and then hating myself for saying it. I didn't understand what was happening apart from the fact that I didn't want to be alive anymore."

Dwayne Johnson

Struggles/struggled with depression.

"The struggle and pain is real. I was devastated and depressed. I reached a point where I didn't want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly. (...) We all go thru the sludge/sh-- and depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it but the key is to not be afraid to open up."

Jared Padalecki

Struggles/struggled with depression.

"Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but Season 3, we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down. (...) And it kind of hit me like a sack of bricks. I mean, I was 25 years old. I had my own TV show. I had dogs that I loved and tons of friends and I was getting adoration from fans and I was happy with my work, but I couldn’t figure out what it was; it doesn’t always make sense is my point. It’s not just people who can’t find a job, or can’t fit in in society that struggle with depression sometimes."

Adele

Struggles/struggled with postpartum depression.

"I had really bad postpartum depression after I had my son, and it frightened me. I didn’t talk to anyone about it. I was very reluctant. One day I said to a friend, ‘I f--kin’ hate this,’ and she just burst into tears and said, ‘I f--kin’ hate this, too.’ And it was done. It lifted."

Chrissy Teigen

https _blueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws.com_uploads_card_image_638317_5161074a-c7a4-49fb-bafe-93e40487570d

Struggles/struggled with depression.

"I had never, ever—in my whole entire life—had one person say to me: I have postpartum depression. Growing up in the nineties, I associated postpartum depression with Susan Smith, with people who didn’t like their babies or felt like they had to harm their children. I didn’t have anything remotely close to those feelings. I looked at Luna every day, amazed by her. So I didn’t think I had it. I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do.

Kirsten Bell

Struggles/struggled with anxiety and depression.

“Negative memories stick in [your] brain more than positive ones. When I’m down, I try and think of 10 positive things. I make my kids do it too. When they complain, I say ok! Now name 10 things [you] love! Always keep trying. Don’t give in. Talk to friends, [a] therapist, take CBD or a medication, get outdoors, work out, write down lists of positive things.”

Shawn Mendes

Shawn-Mendes_das_erste_mal-1

Struggles/struggled with anxiety.

"I made a conscious effort to be more connected to the people in my life. I found I was closing myself off from everybody, thinking that would help me battle it... then realizing the only way I was going to battle it was completely opening up and letting people in. People forget how important it is to talk to your family and to talk to your friends about what’s going on in your life, because the more you tell people how you feel, the more you understand how you feel and you have more control of your emotions."

Ryan Reynolds

ryan-reynolds-networth

Struggles/struggled with anxiety.

“I have anxiety, I’ve always had anxiety - both in the lighthearted ‘I’m anxious about this’ kind of thing, and I’ve been to the depths of the darker end of the spectrum, which is not fun. I was partying and just trying to make myself vanish in some way."

Gina Rodriguez

Struggles/struggled with anxiety.

“I suffer from anxiety. And watching [this clip] I could see how anxious I was but I empathize with myself. I wanted to protect her and tell her it’s ok to be anxious, there is nothing different or strange about having anxiety and I will prevail. I like watching this video. It makes me uncomfortable but there is a freedom I feel maybe even an acceptance. This is me. Puro Gina.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

Struggles/struggled with obsessive compulsive disorder.

“I’m able to say at some point, ‘OK, you’re being ridiculous, stop stepping on every gum stain you see. You don’t need to do walk 20 feet back and put your foot on that thing.”

Mariah Carey

Struggles/struggled with bipolar disorder.

“Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I didn’t want to carry around the stigma of a lifelong disease that would define me...I was so terrified of losing everything. We’re taught, ‘Just go to church and pray about it. The Lord is going to heal you.’ Well, in the meantime, I believe God gifted people, physicians, doctors, therapists — that’s your healing. Take advantage of it. Go see a professional so that they can assess you. It’s OK if you’re going through something. Depression is not OK, but it is OK to go get help.”

Robert Downey Jr.

"Remember that just because you've hit the bottom doesn't mean you have to stay there."

Demi Lovato

160121222923-demi-lovato-exlarge-169

Struggles/struggled with an substance abuse and bipolar disorder.

"I remember sitting with my manager and my family and talking to them about whether or not to speak out about the issues that I was dealing with. I knew that there were two options: I could either not talk about my stint in rehab and hope that it went away, or I could talk about it and inspire people to get help for their issues, as well, so that's exactly what I did. (...) Mental health is something that we all need to talk about, and we need to take the stigma away from it."

Lily Colins

Struggles/struggled with an eating disorder.

"I did consider that talking about my struggles with an eating disorder would overshadow my accomplishments as an actor, but I also knew this was something I needed to do to move forward as a human and an actress. I needed to let go."

Kerry Washington

kerry-washington2

Struggles/struggled with an eating disorder.

"My brain and my heart are really important to me. I don’t know why I wouldn’t seek help to have those things be as healthy as my teeth. I go to the dentist. So why wouldn’t I go to a shrink?”

Zayn Malik

1176475

Struggles/struggled with an eating disorder.

“When I look back at images of myself from around November 2014, before the final tour, I can see how ill I was. Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder. It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that, I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all. It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognize it for what it was. I think it was about control. I didn’t feel like I had control over anything else in my life, but food was something I could control, so I did.”

Nicole Richie

Struggles/struggled with an eating disorder.

"An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease, and I don’t think you can lightly say that someone has a disease unless they’re openly telling you that they do."

Struggles/struggled with Borderline Personality Disorder.

"Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship. It also doesn’t mean that person makes the relationship toxic. Everybody is different and there are a lot of treatments for mental illnesses and I have done/am doing all of them … I just think it’s f***** up to stigmatize people as crazy and say that they are unable to do stuff that anyone can do."

Brandon Marshall

NY-Daily-News

Struggles/struggled with Borderline Personality Disorder.

"When I first heard the term 'mental health', the first thing that came to mind was mental toughness. Masking pain. Hiding it. Keeping it inside. That had been embedded in me since I was a kid. Never show weakness. Suck it up. Play through it. Live through it. Now, I realize that mental health means the total opposite. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) in 2011, which is why I was in the outpatient program at McLean. I remember the doctors there gave me a pamphlet on BPD, explaining the signs and symptoms, and I started highlighting the things I had been feeling. By the time I was done, the whole damn pamphlet was yellow."

Kim Basinger

iYA6AO1hVDel

Struggles/struggled with Avoidant Personality Disorder.

"As a child, I was very shy. Painfully, excruciatingly shy. I hid a lot in my room. I was so terrified to read out loud in school that I had to have my mother ask my reading teacher not to call on me in class. I just absolutely hated school. It was like a prison to me. When I came to Hollywood, I could wear a bikini, but I was in misery because people were looking at me. So I wore baggy clothes and watched other girls get the big parts and awards. I used to go home and play piano and scream at night to let out my frustrations."

The Simple Life turns 15 this year! That's hot.

-In just under a month The Simple Life will officially be turning 15 years old!

-The hit FOX reality series starred Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie wherein the Society princesses/party girls leave their parties, wardrobes and trust funds behind and move in with a farm family for five weeks to experience life as they have never known it.

-While the series always was planned to star Paris, Nicole Ritchie was originally not part of the series. FOX had wanted Paris' sister Nicky Hilton to be Paris' sidekick but she wasnt open to the idea of putting herself in front of the cameras. After Nicky dropped out they pursued Kimberly Stewart to join Paris before finally settling upon Nicole to join her.

-The series was a hit garnering 13 million viewers throughout its tenure on FOX. After Paris/Nicole had a falling out FOX decided to pull the plug after 3 seasons but since Paris/Nicole signed on for 5, E! picked up the series for 2 seasons. While the ratings took a drastic drop they were still the highest rated series on E! pulling in 1.3 million viewers.

-Season 4 would see the two feuding reality stars doing their own rendition of 'Wife Swap' wherein each would swap out with the wife of the family for a week with the family deciding who made the better "mother". Paris/Nicole would reunite for the 5th and final season for a very staged Camping theme.

-A spin off was attempted with Kelly Osbourne and Kimberly Stewart but ultimately never made it to air after Kelly wasnt willing to participate in the simple every day activities they would have to do.

ONTD ORIGINAL: ROMCOMS WORTH WATCHING PART 1

romantic-comedy-collage
All this talk about the new Rebel WIlson movie only made me want to watch more romantic comedies, but I've already watched a lot of them, so it's hard to find new recommendations. I wanted to make a post where we can talk about our favorite romcoms, favorite scenes from romcoms etc. These are some of my favorites, in no particular order:

The Proposal

I love this movie. No matter what this place says about Ryan Reynolds, he's a good comedic actor and he and Sandra Bullock had great chemistry. My favorite scenes were the naked scene, and the scene where Sandra and Betty White dance in the woods.

1

Clueless

Clueless is a classic. This is the year of Clueless since everyone and their mother is wearing the same clothes that we've seen in the movie. Also Paul Rudd. This is my favorite scene from the movie:

10 Things I Hate About You
Not so typical 'good girl falling for a bad boy' story. It's been a few years since I've last watched it, but I remember thinking it was really fun. There was also a tv show based on it, which was cancelled, but I enjoyed it while it lasted (It had that mess Chris Zylka in it, and Ethan Peck who was super hot).
2

Hitch

A movie with Will Smith being Will Smith and a super hot Eva Mendes. They had great chemistry, I rewatch this movie every chance I get. (when i tried finding gifs to add to the post from Hitch tag, it kept showing me gifs from Harry Styles' shows, what the fuck)

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

This movie is hilarious. I miss 'not a serious actor' Matthew McConaughey, he was great at comedy, he should go back to that. Kate Hudson is one of the queens of romcoms, I don't think i've watched a romcom where she was the lead that I didn't like. Then again, she shines even when the script is shit so maybe I was biased lmao.

tumblr_ookuakXiSr1v7jt6lo1_500

Runaway Bride

Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, the golden romcom couple. This and Pretty Woman are one of my favorite movies. That speech that Julia makes to Richard in Runaway Bride gives me all the feels. LOOK AT THEM!!!!

5

27 Dresses

Katherine Heigl should really have her own genre of movies. She plays herself in every movie but somehow it works, she's just so likeable! I loved the drunken scene from this movie, with her and James Marsden, i thought the end with all the bridesmaids wearing her dresses was so cute.

The Wedding Planner

Queen JLo and blonde Matthew McConaughey <3

The Ugly Truth

Katherine Heigl again. She and Gerard Butler had great chemistry in this movie. Gerard played a sexist pig that Katherine Heigl taught how to love lmao (don't think about it too much, just enjoy two hot people fucking lool).

To All The Boys I've Loved Before

Tumblr has gone crazy about this movie, and while I understand that can make the movie unappealing to some, I say this time I agree with tumblr :/. The movie is really cute, different from other romcoms, and it's not a typical teenage story. The main characters are different and both likeable.

Set It Up

Like 'To All The Boys I Loved Before', this is also an original Netflix romcom. While most other Netflix romcoms are too cheesy and similar to Lifetime movies, these two are quite witty and charming, and the leads have great chemistry. Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs LOOK AMAZING BTW.
I was hoping Netflix would continue with movies like these two, but then they gave us that Sierra movie that was complete and utter garbage, so I'm not holding my breath lol.

Two Weeks Notice

Hugh Grant is such a great comedic actor, I loved him in literally everything he's ever done, and this was no exception. Sandra Bullock is an amazing comedic actress so this duo was great together. If you put anyone else in these roles, the movie would fall flat but these two goofballs made it one of my favorites.

I still can't get this BOP out of my head.

Legally Blonde

I mean, how could I not add the president's favorite movie?

Friends With Benefits

Even though everybody here hates Justin Timberlake, I think he was quite good in this comedic role. When this movie came out, there weren't good romcoms around so this was a surprise. It ended up being fun and different, and that other movie with Ashton Kutcher couldn't come close tbh.

• it started with one popular swiftie account making a #justvoted instagram post, in which another popular swiftie account screen shotted the post and took to twitter (see below), saying the girl had told a third friend that if you were gay you were going to hell. you can read her telling that story here.

• swifties rallied around the girl and other lgbtq+ swifties, which caused a fight among the fandom. people began voicing their opinions about being anti-lgbtq+, pro-trump, etc. others began posting screen shots of old tweets and conversations outting them.
