Wade Robson was a major part of 2000s pop culture by choreographing and directing tours for Britney Spears and NSYNC, being the catalyst for the Britney Spears/Justin Timberlake break up, and choreographing and winning Emmys for some of the most memorable So You Think You Can Dance routines when the show was in its prime. The above videos are Wade Robson's 2007 and 2017 dance reels. In the description of the 2007 dance reel, you can also see Wade's 2008 resume. Under the cut, are dances/tours/films Wade has either choreographed, danced in, and/or directed. Wade has also remixed or written music for several of the routines he choreographed.
Dancing with Paula Abdul

Wade danced with Paula Abdul at a NBA game when he was only 10 years old.

Dancing with the Stars

Wade's "Macy Stars of Dance" for Dancing with the Stars that he choreographed and danced in.

Winner of two Emmys For Outstanding Choreography

"Ramalama (Bang Bang)" is arguably the most iconic group dance in So You Think You Can Dance history. It was first danced by the top 10 in season 2 and won Wade the 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Choreography. In season 5, this dance was reprised for the 100th episode of SYTYCD with Wade himself dancing in it this time.

Wade won another Emmy for Outstanding Choreography in 2008 for choreographing Hok and Jaimie's "Hummingbird and Flower" routine to "The Chairman's Waltz" on SYTYCD season 3.

MTV Icon

Wade choreographed P!nk, Usher, and Mya's Janet Jackson dance tribute to "Miss You Much," "Alright," "Pleasure Principle," and "Rhythm Nation" for the 2001 Janet Jackson MTV Icon Special when he was only 18 years old. Janet said that she heard P!nk say at the time that she had never worked so hard in her life. This tribute is universally acknlowedged as inifinitely better than the 2015 BET dance tribute choreographed by Gil Duldulao and danced by Tinashe, Jason Derulo, and Ciara.

I'm a Slave 4 U

Wade was 18 when he choreographed Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U." This is the 720p HD uncut dance version. The music video dance was all done in one shot.

'
You can also see Wade in the MTV Making Making the Video for "I'm a Slave 4 U."

Britney's 2001 VMAs performance of "I'm a Slave 4 U" is probably her most iconic performance and one of the most iconic VMAs performances of all time. It was Wade's idea for Britney to dance with the snake, which is still referenced to this day. Wade also did the choreography.

Rehearsal for the 2001 VMAs featuring Wade. Ignore the JT 2002 VMAs rehearsal that plays after the Britney/Wade 2001 VMAs rehearsal in the first video.

Wade Robson and Brian Friedman the choreographers for "I'm a Slave 4 U" (Mayte Garcia also worked on the choreography, specifcally the belly dancing segments) did the dance with Britney at "Total Britney Live." Wade destroyed Brian here tbh, but still thank you Brian for still supporting Wade to this day.

NSYNC's Pop

Wade wrote (with JT), choreographed, and danced in NSYNC's "Pop." He stood in for Joey after Joey broke his leg when a trap door fell on it.

At 34:26 of MTV Making the Video for "Pop," you can see Wade dancing for Joey + Joey's commentary on it.

Wade also choreographed NSYNC and ... Michael Jackson's performance of "Pop" at the 2001 VMAs. He was only 18 years old. This video was working in every country yesterday, but today it seems to be blocked for copyright in my country today, so if also doesn't currently work for you in your country, watch here.

2001 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Wade was only 18 when he choreographed the 2001 Super Bowl Halftime Show which featured NSYNC, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Mary J Blige, and Nelly.

You can see Wade in MTV's Making the XXXV Halftime show.

Britney Spears' Pepsi Commercials

Britney's Joy of Pepsi "Rooftop" commercial was choreogaphed by Wade. He also appears briefly as a dancer and also at the end both he and Britney are holding Pepsi cans.

Making of Britney's Joy of Pepsi "Rooftop" commercial, which features Wade.

Here is the dance rehearsal for the commercial, which shows Wade teaching his choreography to Britney and the dancers.

Wade also choreographed Britney's Pepsi "Now and Then" commercial. Not only was he the choreographer, but he also co-directed the commericial (with Joe Pytka) and remixed the music.

Behind the Scenes of the Pepsi "Now and Then" commercial, which features Wade.

Wade choreographed Britney's "Right Now" Pepsi FIFA World Cup commercial.

Behind the scenes of the "Right Now" commercial with Wade dancing the choreography with Britney.

More behind the scenes of the "Right Now" commercial with Wade helping Britney with choreography and soccer.

The Wade Robson Project

When Wade was 20, he had his own show in 2003 called The Wade Robson Project on MTV. It was one of the first dance reality shows and was a competition for amateur hip hop dancers. This show is where Twitch, Ellen's DJ, SYTYCD runner up, and Step Up dancer was first discovered. The video shows dances Wade choreographed and/or danced in for his own show. Also any ONTDers hit me up if you can find the entire show to watch online since I've been looking and can't find it :(.

More Award Show Choreography

When Wade was only 16, he choreographed and danced in Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" performance at the 1999 VMAs. He is the dancer with red hair.

When Wade was only 17, he choreographed and remixed the music for Britney's "You Drive Me Crazy" and "Baby One More Time" performances at the 1999 EMAs and BBMAs.

Wade also choreographed NSYNC's 2000 VMAs performance when he was 17. The first video is the performance and the 2nd video is the rehearsal with Wade.

Again at 17, Wade choreographed and remixed the music for Britney's "Satisfaction/Oops I Did It Again" performance at the 2000 VMAs. First video is the performance and the 2nd video is rehearsal with the male dancers posted by Brian Friedman.

When Wade was 18, he choreographed NSYNC's "Just Got Paid" performance at the 2000 BBMAs.

Tours/Live Shows

At age 16, Wade choreographed, danced in, and produced the music for Britney's 1999 opening tour number. You can see him clearly in this video of Britney's 1999 Wango Tango performance.

At age 17, Wade choreographed and remixed music for Britney's "Crazy 2k Tour." In the opening "You Drive Me Crazy" performance, the music is remixed by Wade and it his voice going "It's Britney Spears, Baby."

Wade again did choreography and music remixes for Britney at age 17 on her "Oops I Did it Again" tour. The 1st video is the tour and the 2nd video is Britney rehearsing "Satisfaction" where you can see Wade.

At 17, Wade choreographed and directed NSYNC's "No Strings Attached Tour." The first video is a performance of "No Strings Attached" from Bigger than Live. The 2nd video is Wade, JC, and JT rehearsing the "No Strings Attached" choreography in footage from Leaving Neverland. The 3rd video is the entire HBO special for the tour. The 4th video is the MTV Making of the Tour video, which includes footage of Wade throughout.

Wade was 18 when he choreographed (with Brian Friedman), directed, wrote, and remixed music for Britney's "Dream Within a Dream" tour, which many fans consider Britney's best tour. The first video is the encore of the tour, Britney's "Baby One More Time" performance with the water screen. Wade remixed the track. The 2nd and 3rd videos are behind the scenes videos of the tour that feature Wade. See the entire Las Vegas HBO broadcast of the tour here.

Wade was 18 when he wrote, directed, and choreographed NSYNC's "PopOdyssey" tour. Wade also wrote and produced 4 songs on NSYNC's "Celebrity" album. "Celebrity" the title track was actually supposed to be for Wade's album (this never ended up happening since Wade kept getting drawn back to dance and choreography), but he was convinced to give it to NSYNC. The other 3 tracks he wrote and produced on were "Gone," "Pop," and "See Right Through You."

Criss Angel's "Believe" Cirque Du Soleil Show
Wade choreographed the opening performance, "Homage to the Rabbits," for Criss Angel's "Believe" Cirque Du Soleil show. This was the guest performance the show did on the season 4 finale of SYTYCD.

Burning Room

"Burning Room" was a more lyrical and contemporary piece Wade choreographed. The first video is Ben Susak and Pam Chu (two of the dancers for the Criss Angel "Believe" show) dancing it, filmed by Wade. The 2nd video is Katee and Joshua dancing the routine for SYTYCD.

"Power" Commercial

Wade choreographed, danced, wrote, produced, and directed his "Power" commercial for his dance shoe.

Happy Feet Two

Wade was the choreographer for the animated film Happy Feet Two. He also produced several songs for the Happy Feet Two soundtrack.

FLIGHT
Wade directed, wrote, edited, and produced a dance short film called "FLIGHT" starring SYTYCD alum Allison Holker, Teddy Forance and William Wingfield.

So You Think You Can Dance

The first duet Wade choreographed on SYTYCD was Heidi and Travis' Afropop in season 2, which is in the 1st video. The 2nd video is Wade dancing it himself in a class.

He also choreographed the season 2 top 4 group number to "Sexyback." The first video is the SYTYCD performance from Heidi, Travis, Donyelle, and Benji. The 2nd video is Wade performing it at a dance workshop.

Wade choreographed "Ruby Blue" for Janette and Brandon on season 5.

Wade choreographed the SYTYCD season 6, top 20 group routine to "Comanche." The first video is the SYTYCD top 20, while the 2nd video is Wade dancing it himself in a class.

Dance Classes/Conventions/Workshops/Tours
Wade and Dave Scott dancing together on the 2009 Pulse Tour Dallas stop.

Wade's 2012 "Polite Dance Song" Masterclass Routine

Wade took a 5 year break from dancing from 2012 to 2017 and thought he would never dance again since dance had been tainted by the realization he was abused by MJ since dance was so tied in with MJ (ie. Wade started dancing at 2 because of MJ's thriller). He refound his relationship with dance though and came back to JUMP in 2017. The first video is him teaching dance at Brian Friedman's "The Main Event" in 2018. The 2nd video is him teaching dance at Gen 4 in 2018.

Blake McGrath "Tattooed"

Wade directed Blake McGrath's "Tattooed" video and Tricia Miranda did the choreography. At the 1:46 mark, Wade, Blake, and Brian Friedman all dance together. Wade outdances them tbh but thanks Brian and Blake for still supporting Wade to this day

2009 MTV Music Awards Janet Jackson Tribute to Michael Jackson

In Janet Jackson's 2009 MTV Tribute to Michael Jackson after his death, she was joined by all prominent dancers/choreographers: Tyce Diorio, Tina Landon, Jeri Slaughter, Travis Payne, Brian Friedman, Cris Judd, Dave Scott, Laurie Ann Gibson, and Wade Robson. Mia Michaels was also in the rehearsals and supposed to be part of the performance, but got injured the day before everyone left for New York.

In the MTV Making of MJ Tribute video, Janet confirmed that her collaboration with her brother Michael, "Scream," was about the first sexual abuse allegations against him and her supporting him through it all: "That's when the — I hate to say this but — the first allegations [of child molestation] came out and the whole bit. He was very upset and very angry and he had so much pent up in him that he wanted to get out and say. And when you listen to the lyrics, that's what it's about. I played the role that I've always played in his life: his little sister that was there by his side, that had his back no matter what. That's what 'Scream' was for me."

There is also a very sad part of the MTV Making of MJ Tribute, where you see Wade putting on the "Bad" gloves Michael gave him when he was 7 or 8 and saying that even though Michael will be there spirtually with them, he wanted to feel something physical from him and feel that much closer to him. :(((

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png
This week brings us the arrival of a couple of long-awaited indies! Fast Color, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s starring vehicle from the director of Miss Stevens, is finally hitting select theaters. And Under the Silver Lake, a film that has seen multiple release dates stretching back to last spring, is opening in just a couple of theaters and heading straight to VOD for everyone else. The big studio releases of the week are pretty underwhelming: horror flick The Curse of La Llorona, Disney’s Penguins doc, and the overtly religious Breakthrough, whose trailer (“But I don’t believe in God!!”) will haunt me to the end of my days.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have just opened near you: April 12th, April 5th, and March 29th.

PART ONE

Thirteen years ago, artists like Daniel Powter, Cassie, and Paris Hilton were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2006 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, it's always fun to revist the past and remember what we were doing when we were listening to these songs back in the day. This list continues "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2006!

BROOKE HOGAN - ABOUT US

Brooke Hogan's "About Us" was released as the first single from her debut album Undiscovered in June 2006. The song features Paul Wall and is the first single released by Scott Storch's record label. "About Us" peaked at no. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2006. The song also peaked at no. 21 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart.

ASHLEY PARKER ANGEL - LET U GO

"Let U Go" is the first single from Ashley Parker Angel's debut solo album, Soundtrack to Your Life. In the U.S., the song debuted at no. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, the third highest debut of the year. The song peaked at no. 12 in its second week on the Hot 100, while reaching the top 10 of the Pop 100 companion chart at no. 9.

MARIO VAZQUEZ - GALLERY

Mario Vazquez's "Gallley" was written by Ne-Yo and Stargate. The song, one of the most added records at Rhythm radio stations across the United States on its first week out, was sent out to Top 40 radio in April 2006. Both English and Spanglish versions of "Gallery" were on radio and released digitally. The single managed to peak at no. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and managed to fare better on the Billboard Pop 100, peaking at no. 15. It debuted at no. 49 on the Australian ARIA Top 100 and reached the top 15 in France.

THE PACK - VANS

Vans, ha impact! The pack released "Vans" in the summer of 2006 and the song eventually peaked at no. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song made the rap group internet sensations for a short while until they faded into oblivion.

MATISYAHU - KING WITHOUT A CROWN

Matisyahu's "King Without A Crown" was originally from his 2004 debut studio album and then a shorter edited version was released as an official single in late 2005 in support of his second studio album. In 2006, the song hit no. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 7 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, making it Matisyahu's biggest hit of his career.

LETOYA - TORN

Letoya's torn was released in March 2006 and soon became a hit, having a high airplay, just missing out the top ten on the U.S. Hot 100 Airplay charts at no. 11. "Torn" became a hit on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at no. 2. It also entered the top 20 on the Rhythmic Top 40 and Adult R&B charts and eventually peaked at no. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100. In September 2006, the song was finally released in other countries all over the world, namely the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia and became a moderate worldwide hit.

TEDDY GEIGER - FOR YOU I WILL (CONFIDENCE)

Teddy Geiger's "For You I Will" was used as the theme song for the CBS comedy-drama series Love Monkey, on which Geiger played a recurring guest role. The song became a hit despite the show's cancellation and reached no. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video features MTV Laguna Beach's Kristin Cavallari. Teddy has gone on to be a successful producer/songwriter, working with the likes of One Direction, Lizzo and Shawn Mendes.

OK GO - HERE IT GOES AGAIN

OK GO's "Here It Goes Again" was the band's only single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, until later on in 2014. The song peaked at no. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100. Featuring the band dancing on treadmills, the video became a staple on YouTube; it was one of the most watched videos, with over 52 million views, until it was removed from their channel. In addition, the single peaked at no. 36 on the UK Singles Chart in October 2006, marking their second UK Top 40 single and their third UK Top 75 single.

DJ WEBSTAR & YOUNG B - CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

"Chicken Noodle Soup" became a hit thanks to it's viral accompanying dance. Originating in Harlem, the dance spread virally on YouTube with hundrends of videos of kids dancing to the song. The song peaked at no. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached no. 15 on the US Hot Rap charts. Young B aka Bianca has gone on to be a member of the cast of Love & Hip Hop where she continues trying to work on music.

ANGELS & AIRWAVES - THE ADVENTURE

Angels & Airwaves' song "The Adventure" received increased attention when it aired on a Smallville trailer in 2006. After the season finale of Smallville aired, "The Adventure" climbed to no. 30 on Amazon. The song peaked at no. 55 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and no. 5 on the US Hot Modern Rock charts. ONTD Original: Top 10 N'SYNC's live performances.

$
0
0
Since the Syncmageddon has started and there's even talks about a reunion. Let's revisit N'sync's best live performances.

10. 'Space Cowboy/Makes Me Ill'
N'sync HBO Concert Special

Space Cowboy is such a ridiculous song, but they made it so entertaining and fun during the performance of their HBO Concert Special. Raise your hands if you did the Space Cowboy dance routing on the tip of your toes! 🙋‍♂️

9. 'Just Got Paid'
Billboard Awards 2000

It's such a shame that this never was a single from 'No Strings Attached' cause it's so much fun. And so relatable now that i'm an adult.

8. 'I Want You Back'
N'SYNC LIVE: The Atlantis Concert

The atlantis concert to promote 'Celebrity' was so much fan, but you gotta appreciate them for still performing an oldie. 'I want you back' remains a bop to this day.

7. 'Baby One More Time/Tearin' Up My Heart' ft. Britney Spears
MTV VMA 1999

Iconic... as Britney and Nsync's first MTV performance. Also, people loved it back in the day because of the rumours that JT and Britney were dating. i feel like in school already!

6. 'Up Against The Wall'
N'SYNC LIVE: The Atlantis Concert

I WANT TO BE STUCK IN THOSE WALLS TOO!! That shit looks like so much fun, and this was not only one of the more upbeat performances, but one of the best tracks of 'Celebrity' as well.

5. 'A Puro Dolor/Yo te voy a Amar' ft. Son By Four
Latin Grammy Awards 2000

Son by Four had this one hit that was on the chart for like 3 million years, but if you were a latin kid, you could appreciate Nsync performing in spanish during the first Latin Grammy Awards. Also JC looks so damn handsome here.

4. 'Girlfriend/Bye Bye Bye'
MTV VMA 2013

The reunion!!! You can see ONTD post and reaction to it. People lost their shit cause we were not expecting this to happen. Like ever. Especially since JT became such a douche. It was short, but sweet. Like sex with your ex.

3. 'Pop' ft. Voldemort
MTV VMA 2001

Back in the day, people were calling this one of the best performances ever. 'Pop' was such a hit, but Michael had been absent from the stage probably because he was too busy molesting children, yet people still freaked out. Looking back, it's a very good performance, right until he appears.

2. 'Digital Get Down'
N'sync HBO Concert Special

Such a random hit, and it's so damn 90's. The dial up, the keyboards, them having no idea what digital meant. i fucking love it. Bonus points for 2:42 when it looks like JC is gonna sex. you. up.

1. 'This i Promise You/Bye Bye Bye/It's Gonna Be Me (Remix)'
MTV VMA 2000

'No Strings Attached' is a superior album by far. It just is. So having the three singles together was such a hit, and doing a remix of most of them was great too. Til this day, that version of 'It's Gonna Be Me' remains one of my faves.

ONTD Original: The Truth About Britney's Father.

$
0
0
The current hype surrounding the #FreeBritney movement has many alarming aspects to consider, but one of the most present throughout most of the conservatorship is no other than Britney's father, Jamie Spears.

Here is a small background on Britney's current sole conservator previous to the current state of affairs and his involvement in the conservatorship.

- Birth Background:

Jamie Spears was born in Louisiana on July 6 in 1952 which makes him currently 66 years old. His mother, Emma Jean Spears committed suicide in 1966 after not being able to cope with the loss of her son Austin in 1957. Jamie's father, Austin Spears had warned the local police about his wife attempting suicide on three occasions before her death.

- Pre Lynne Spears:

Jamie worked as a boiler-maker which led him to working in Louisiana, New York, Missouri and Memphis. Back in the day considered one of the best athletes in the region.
Jamie Spears was married before meeting Lynne to Debra Sanders in 1972. The marriage lasted about three years. Debra's reason for divorce was a claim that despite being a great wife to Jamie, he simply abandoned her.

- Marriage to Lynne: Jamie met Lynne and got married in 1976 which leads to believe that they met, dated and got married in just two weekes after his divorce, or even worse, that they were seeing each other while Jamie was still married. Both eloped to marry in New York, but by 1980 Lynne had already filed for divorce citing adultery, in fact, she described on her book his erratic drinking, "benders", and cheating on Christmas back in 1979. The divorce filing included allegations regarding his temper which led her to also asking for a restraining order.

- Father of three:

Nine months after marrying Lynne, they had a son, Bryan Spears who was witness to Jamie's drinking binges and several cases of belittling and berating Lynne. Such benders were even the case when Lynne's father passed away during which
Jamie disappeared for a whole week.

- Divorce Cancelation:

A few months after Lynne's divorce filing, she ended up withdrawing it. Following this, they moved out of their trailer park home to take out their first mortgage, this following year was described by Lynne as heaven, which is around the time when Britney was born.

- Britney's Father:

At this time, Jamie opened a spa/gym to switch careers in hopes of a steadier income. The birth of both Bryan and Britney, along with the new mortgage and business took a toll on Jamie and he relapsed. The arguing between Jamie & Lynne became regular and heavily influenced by his bad temper. Britney would make a habit of then seeking shelter in her aunt's house. The newly founded business soon became neglected by Jamie and led the family to be broke to the point of Jamie hunting to feed his family.

- Left Alone & Jamie Lynne:

On April 1991, Jamie Lynne Spears was born, but this time around there wouldn't be a chance for Jamie to relapse yet again after the birth of one of his children because this time around Jamie Lynne left along with Lynne & Britney as they all went around showcasing Britney in hopes of securing her a deal in the entertainment business which then led to moving out to Florida.

- Debt-Free:

Following Britney's success from her first two album's, she cleared Jamie of any debt that he had at the moment, while Lynne got a finance separation that would spare her of any financial problems that Jamie had at the moment and subsequently allowed her to receive Britney's mansion to her without any fear of it being take away because of Jamie's financial struggles.

- Teen Mom Daughter:

Jamie Lynne's infamous pregnancy announcement back in 2007 made Jamie's rage resurface, especially during a time where Britney was causing havoc in her own life.

- Reconciliation:

Back in 2010 it was reported that Jamie and Lynne had reconciled and gotten back together, however no further reports have been made and everything indicates that they are currently separated.

Pet Sematary (1989)

* Stephen King's novel was partially inspired by the death of his daughter's cat Smuckey. Smuckey's name appears on a gravestone in the cemetery both in the novel and movie.

* Jud (Fred Gwynne) mentions he had a dog named Spot. Spot was also the name of the Munsters' family pet.

-"Erotic films navigate the oceans of sexual desire, no matter whether that desire is frustrated and repressed or messily fulfilled. It is a category that spans the space between explicitness and restraint, between romance and pornography." (Scene 360)

-"Sexual or Erotic Films focus on themes with either suggestive, erotic or sensual scenes or subjects, sometimes with depictions of human nudity and lovemaking, but not always of an extremely explicit, gratuitous or pornographic nature. These kinds of films often appeal to the emotions of the viewer, with their emphasis on pleasure, physical desire, and human companionship. Films of romance with sexy lead characters may have sexual elements, but these are often secondary to the main plot goal - the search and attainment of love." (AMC Film Site)

ONTD Original: The Best Seasons' Snatch Games Of RuPaul's Drag Race, Ranked

$

ontd snatch game.png

Last week we ranked the best Snatch Game impressions ever on RuPaul's Drag Race. This week, we're ranking the best to worst overall Snatch Games on the show, by season.

From worst to best:

WORST:Season 11

Yes, this exact fucking season. It sucked. It sucked balls. Mostly because it was so boring. When the strongest impression is Silky Ganache as T.S. Madison, then you know it's a weak-ass Snatch Game.

(I can't find the full video on Youtube, sorry.)

All Stars Season 4

"I rike-a da big... black.. deek." Enough said.

Season 4

Now, don't get me wrong, this season had some great impressions. Chad Michaels as Cher? Iconic. But between Phi Phi's weak Lady Gaga, Kenya's Beyonce farting on people, and Jiggly shouting, "SNOOKI WANT SMUSH SMUSH!," this season fucking bit it.

All Stars Season 3

This season's Snatch was decent, except for Trixie's legendary flop RuPaul.

Winner, winner, chicken... supper.

(This one also isn't on Youtube, sorry.)

Season 3

There were a lot of solid performances in this season, but it lands solidly in the middle.

Season 5

Although this Snatch gave us Jinkx's blessed Little Edie impression, the mostly lackluster other performances dragged it down.

Season 8

Season 8 is not known as the strongest season, but its Snatch Game had some great moments, including Thorgy as Michael Jackson and Derrick doing a near-perfect Britney.

Season 10

WHOOPS, I forgot season 10!!! it's pretty hilarious!

Season 7

SO. MANY. GOOD. PERFORMANCES. Little Richard. Adele. Suzy Orman. Big Ang. I mean, come on.

Season 9

I mean. Can we fucking talk about Alexis Michelle and Sasha Velour? Plus, this was a great mixture of old-fashion Hollywood stars, contemporary celebrities, and gay cult icons.

Season 2

The O.G. Snatch Game that started it all, with Tati's legendary Britney and Pandora's legendary Carol Channing.

Season 6

This season turned out two great performances and some other pretty fucking funny ones. BALONEY!

All Stars Season 2

wHy DoNt YoU cOmE oN uP aNd FuCk Me In ThE aSs SoMeTiMe, ohhhh!

ONTD Original: 20 Native American Rising Stars

$
0
0

In honor of Powwow season (and a Native American woman starring in a new Netflix series - Chambers), I decided to make a post featuring rising Native American stars across different mediums since it seems like Non-natives struggle to name a single famous Native American, who isn’t Geronimo or Pocahontas. Using both Indigenous media mentions (like Indian Country Today, Powwows.com, Navajo Times, #NativeTwitter) and mainstream media, I focused on those who are recognizable within Indigenous country AND making waves on the outside, rather than just those who are semi-recognizable outside the community, but with no known ties inside (like Kaya Jones), those who are only primarily known inside Native media (like the amazing James & Ernie, Chance Rush) or non-Natives who pose in 'redface' (like Kelsey Asbille).  Featuring Martin Seismeyer, Devery Jacobs, Lily Gladstone, Forrest Goodluck, Sivan Alyra Rose, Grace Dove, Sharice Davids, Debb Haaland, Daunnette Reyome, Tommy Orange, Kahara Hodges, Robin Maxkii, Travis Thompson, Frank Waln, Jared Yazzie, Jaime Okuma, Charlene Holy Bear, B.Yellowtail, Steven Paul Judd, Anthony Seigler, Inez Jasper, The Bannock Brothers

Oh, and apologies for my writing style, I am not a pro at this. Alright, here we go:

1. Martin Seismeyer "The Action Star"

Martin Sensmeier is starring in an upcoming Angelina Jolie biopic about legendary athlete Jim Thorpe.

Sensmeier is an American actor and is of Tlingit, Koyukon-Athabascan, and Irish descent. He was raised in a Tlingit Coastal Community in Southeast Alaska and grew up learning and participating in the traditions of his tribes. He is also an ambassador for The Native Wellness Institute, as well as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and advocates for wellness among Native people of all Nations- focusing largely on youth.

In 2007, Martin moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. His job schedule working on an oil rig in Alaska allowed him to support his dreams, pay for acting classes and afford living in Southern California. In 2011, he quit working in the oilfield and began pursuing a career in the arts full time.

In 2016, he starred in the remake of The Magnificent Seven (2016), directed by Antoine Fuqua. He played one of the Seven, the role of Red Harvest, starring alongside Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Vincent D'Onofrio.

2. Devery Jacobs "The Actress"

Devery currently stars in American Gods and fun fact she received a callback from JJ Abrams for the roll of Rey in Star Wars (which eventually went to Daisy Ridley)

Devery Jacobs was born in the Kahnawà:ke Mohawk territory, in Quebec. As a young actress, she started making waves with roles on television shows such as Dead Zone, Being Human, and Mohawk Girls. It was her starring feature debut in Rhymes for Young Ghouls that won her critical acclaim and pushed her into the spotlight as an actor to watch. The role landed her a nomination for Best Actress at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.

Jacobs has also ventured into directing and has released a couple of her own short films – Stolen, which was backed by a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, and RAE. Both films had their premieres at the ImagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival in consecutive years.

A few years ago, Jacobs got a call back from J.J. Abrams regarding the role of Rey in the new Star Wars movies. The role went to Daisy Ridley in the end but the idea of Jacobs using the force and swinging a lightsabre out on the intergalactic battlefield sure got us excited for what could have been. Fans were both heartbroken and inspired when they heard.

Jacobs can next be seen in CTV’s third season of Cardinal, and a new Netflix Original called The Order. Next year you’ll also be able to see her in the second season of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods as Sam Black Crow. When Neil Gaiman first announced that the production was beginning to cast for the character and would only consider actresses of Indigenous background, she became a clear frontrunner with fans who took to Twitter to champion her.

Already, she’s become an inspiration to young actresses and Indigenous girls across Canada. We can’t wait to watch her work in these upcoming series and more!

5. Deb Haaland, Sharice Davids “The Politicians/The Leaders

Democrats Deb Haaland of New Mexico and Sharice Davids of Kansas won their House races ― and made history.

By winning in Kansas's 3rd District, Sharice Davids, 37, also became the first openly gay woman elected to the House. An Ivy League-educated attorney, she served as an Obama White House fellow in 2016. The former mixed martial arts fighter went viral with an early campaign video in which she posed in boxing gear and spoke about being raised by her mother, a veteran. When polls closed out West a few hours later, Deb Haaland had been elected from New Mexico's blue-leaning 1st District. A member of the Pueblo of Laguna, the attorney and community organizer formerly chaired the New Mexico state Democratic Party and ran for New Mexico Lieutenant Governor in 2014. She won handily over her Republican challenger Janice Arnold-Jones, 59 to 36 percent.

Deb Haaland pledged to make sure "Congress recognizes the fact that the United States has a trust responsibility to Indian tribes," she said in an interview with Vox last summer. "So at every possible opportunity, I’ll work really hard to make sure tribal leaders have a seat at the table when there's issues of importance." During the campaign, she advocated a $15 federal minimum wage, more environmental protections and the development of a renewable energy infrastructure.

Davids, a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, defeated four-term Republican incumbent Kevin Yoder. The district, which Hillary Clinton won by 1 point in 2016, encompasses the affluent Johnson County suburbs of Kansas City, in a state that is steadfastly conservative. Although Davids might have seemed an unlikely candidate, she ran comfortably ahead in polls from the beginning, ultimately besting Yoder by 53 to 44 percent.

6. Tommy Orange “The Writer

Tommy Orange is a graduate of the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, he was born and raised in Oakland, California. He wrote the incredible debut novel "There There"

Tommy Orange is theCheyenne and Arapaho author of the New York Times bestseller 'There There' Published in 2018, it opens with an essay by Orange as a prologue, and then proceeds to follow a large cast of Native Americans living in the area of Oakland, California, as they struggle with a wide array of challenges ranging from depression and alcoholism, to unemployment, fetal alcohol syndrome, and the challenges of living with an ethnic identity of being "ambiguously nonwhite." All coalesce at a community pow wow and its attempted robbery.

The book explores the themes of Native peoples living in urban spaces, and issues of ambivalence and complexity related to Natives' struggles with identity and authenticity. There There was favorably received, and was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize. He teaches creative writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts.

There Thereis about urban Native American lives. Are these lives and experiences under-represented in fiction?
Yes, you already find Native people in fiction, but there aren’t many representations of us as modern, contemporary and living in cities, so that was definitely something I saw lacking.

What made you decide to have12 narrators?
I really liked what a chorus of voices could do. I like, within a novel, to jump around and see how the different voices connect. It gives the reader a lot to do. And when the reader gets the connection, something really special happens: like a clicking in place. It gives it a kind of propulsion and makes it a really active reading experience. Has starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Sasha Lane.

Forrest Goodluck, Navajo, the star of Desiree Akhavan's The Miseducation of Cameron Post, is starring in five movies next year. The Albuquerque native — whose big screen debut was as Leonardo DiCaprio's son, Hawk, in the Oscar winning The Revenant also intends to continue his education with plans to study history at the prestigious Stanford University.

Goodluck's first acting experience was during a sixth grade production of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at his elementary school: later he performed in stage and theater productions in middle and high school. At age 13, he auditioned for Native American director Chris Eyre's film Man Called Buffalo, which never made it to production, but did allow him to network with future casting directors.

Goodluck auditioned for the part of Hawk in the 2015 film when he was 15 years old. The Revenant was his first feature film role.

In February, 2016, he was cast to appear in a pilot for the Hulu drama, "Citizen" as Guero, a “wiry graduate of the streets who serves as the charismatic and bipolar leader of a group called ‘Baby Narcos.'” In November 2016, it was announced Goodluck would star opposite Chloë Grace Moretz and Sasha Lane in The Miseducation of Cameron Post.

Just like the audition process and even the filming process, I didn't know what exactly I was getting into. I prepared myself physically, emotionally and spiritually to be as open as possible so I could take direction, feed off my surroundings, and feed off my relationship with Leonardo within the scene. Obviously it’s a period piece and so I was trying to connect to a layer of my ancestry as well

ONTD Original: Celebs who adopted matrilineal surnames

$
0
0

It's still shockingly rare for a child to unilateraly recieve their mother's surname (only 4% of children do according to one poll) but being born with your father's surname doesn't mean you'll live with it.

Here are 10 celebs born with their father's surnames who later took on their mother's surnames out of love, hate, or necessity.

Catherine Deneuve was born Catherine Dorléac. She was one of four sisters and while her elder half-sister later changed her surname to Dorléac to pay tribute to her adopted father, Catherine took her mother's surname, Deneuve, as a stage name when she began working professionally. She is also the sister of actress Françoise Dorléac who elected to keep her birthname when she started making movies.

Canadian actor and director Xavier Dolan was actually given the double baralled surname Dolan-Tadros and used that name while working as a child actor. Despite the fact that his father, Manuel Tadros, is a well known singer, Dolan dropped the Tadros surname as an adult while electing to keep his mother's last name.

Old Hollywood actress Rita Hayworth was born Margarita Carmen Cansino. Her father was a Spanish immigrant and her mother was an American of Irish descent. On the advice of the head of Columbia Pictures she anglicized her name to Rita and took her mother's surname Hayworth, as a Spanish surname was seen as being overtly ethnic in a way that would harm her career.

Model and actress Dree Hemingway is the great-grandaughter of writer Ernest Hemingway and the daughter of Oscar nominated actress Mariel Hemingway. At birth she was named Dree Hemingway Crisman. When she began working professionally she dropped the Crisman in order to use her mother's more famous surname. Somewhat ironically her younger sister Langley Fox was given Hemingway as a surname. However she also elected to drop her surname and also use her middle name, Fox, as her professional surname.

Blake Lively was born Blake Brown and while Lively is her mother's surname it's not her maiden name. Lively's mother, Elaine, took the surname from her first husband. She had three children with him before going on to marry Blake's father, who then adopted the Lively surname as well. Though her parents legally gave both Blake and her full brother the Brown surname both children later adopted Lively as a stage name to match their parents and older siblings.

Joel and Benji Madden originally were given their father's surname of Combs. When their father walked out on the family the brothers later adopted their mother's surname Madden.

Clémence Poésy was born Clémence Guichard. Though her father was the one with minor industry connections as an actor and writer she nevertheless took her mother's name as a stage name undoubtedly because Poésy is just so much prettier than Guichard.

Katy Perry was born Kathryn Hudson. The reason she changed her name is pretty obvious: Katy Hudson is too close to Kate Hudson. Despite releasing an album under her birth name Perry truly only achieved success after she took her mother's maiden name as a stage name.

Michéal Richardson's name change made the news in 2018 when his grandmother, Vanessa Redgrave publicly announced the switch to the press. Born Michéal Neeson he decided to change his last name to his mother's surname in order to honour actress Natasha Richardson who died in 2009 after a skiing accident.

Kaya Scodelario was born Kaya Humphrey. After her parents divorce the English actress was predominately raised by her Brazilian born mother. She has frequently emphasized her connection to her Brazilian heritage and adopted her mother's surname as her stage name once she began working professionally.

ONTD Original: Monthly Movie Challenge - May

$

Another 10-task challenge. You obviously don’t need to do all 10 tasks, choose as many as you want, but I figured it gives you some variety and allows you to pick and choose movies that fit your taste but also maybe lead you to watch something you wouldn’t normally seek out. For each task, you can pick whatever movie fits within the guidelines, I've added links to help you out. I tried to add tasks that would allow you to get movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and/or Hulu – but there’s also Kanopy and Hoopla (both of which you can get free access through your library or university). Have a different movie for each task – that is, don’t have the same movie for task 2 and task 6.

Tasks:
1. The first Saturday of every May is Free Comic Book Day, watch any movie that is based on a comic book (THIS should be helpful).
2. May 11th is Twilight Zone Day, watch any movie that seems like it could just be a feature length episode (THIS might be a good jumping off point to give you ideas).
3. Watch any movie on the They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? list of the 21st Century’s Most Acclaimed Films (Thanks to peppermint_fox for the task suggestion).
4. Watch any movie that is celebrating an anniversary this month; so Shrek 2 was released 15 years ago this month, Batman 30 years ago, The Lion King 25 years, etc. (THIS should be helpful - doesn’t need to be an anniversary in 5 year increments, if you want to watch a movie that is celebrating its 3 year anniversary, go for it).
5. May 12th is Mother’s Day, watch any movie about motherhood or someone’s relationship with their mother.
6. Watch any LGBT movie.
7. Watch any movie that's so bad, it's good (think Showgirls or The Room) (thanks to willardwright for the task suggestion).
8. Watch any movie that has a punctuation mark in the title.
9. The people who create movie posters are often times nameless, THIS article goes into some of the most well-known poster artists, watch any movie that one of the people mentioned designed the poster for.
10. A film within a film – watch any movie where a film is being made (THIS should be helpful).

Maisie tells the story of working on what ended up becoming the biggest television show of all time from the age of 12. She discusses why she thinks right now is the perfect time to build tools for communities and how her platform, daisie, will redefine creative collaboration.

Male Singers in Crop Tops - A Look?

Sun's out, guns happy trails ouT
You're probably used to the next festival gay to be running around in a cropped tank top, but should the trend continue on? Men bearing their midriff in crop tops made a quiet comeback around 2014 but has actually been around since the 80's. While MOST male singers stay boring af fashion-wise, a very few select of performers have actually experimented with the crop top look and showed the guys and gals what they shoulda did.

Here were 9 male performers who revealed whether they were an innie or an outie via tantalizing lewks.

Prince

Prince was no stranger to flamboyant clothing and revealing silhouettes during the early parts of his career, with stage wear including fringes, boots, and thongs. He wore crop top cuts mostly during the mid to late 80's.

Mark Owen (Take That)

NGL I don't know much about Take That other than they were British, Robbie Williams is in it (I still don't know a single song from ha but he's pals with everyone), that one of them co-wrote a song w/ Lily Allen, and 4 of them are still together touring. I don't think their music ever crossed over in the states and radio.

But I did see they pandered to the gay community a biT back in the day and they SERVED sex appeal clothing-wise compared to boyband counterparts.

Jason Orange (Take That)

This disco number really brought out the gayness, but I can't complain. (also we need more men to start wearing short shorts)

AJ McLean (Backstreet Boys)

AJ was the Edwin of Backstreet Boys who had a more daring fashion sense between the hair dye, sunglasses, and cowboy hats. This outfit reveal on stage at the 1999 VMAs was truly an overlooked moment in VMA fashion history.

Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi at Coachella 2014 was a memorable moment in recent times that made headlines. We didn't know what he did but it did set off something in some of us from that point on - we have no choice BUT to stan.

Olly Alexander (Years & Years)

Olly is one of few male mainstream acts out there not being afraid of giving us femme fashion and dance moves. He's been wearing crop tops and even wore a very... special one at a GQ event recently.

WHEW the following men of kpop gave us FLAVOR in the live performance fashion realm - when will western acts? Here are a few examples;

Wonho (MONSTA X)

Twittersphere is really to credit for bringing my attention to this singer from kpop band MONSTA X (I've only heard a few bops from them [is their name even stylized in capital letters?]) giving us a 1999 Sometimes Britney Spears white turtle neck crop top moment.

Kai (Exo)

King Daniel

Honorable Mentions From
Ginuwine / Lenny Kravitz / Axl Rose

any more examples of this?? (for research purposes)

Britney is back at her house which she now uses for impromptu photoshoots apparently! She posted pics of her striking a pose against a red backdrop which are quite reminiscent of Janet Jackson's iconic Control cover art. This would not be a reach as Janet has been a long-time influence on Britney's music, performances, and dance routines with Britney herself often speaking about her love for Janet on camera or covering her songs on tour.

And because this is an informative post take a trip down memory lane and witness Britney's Janet stanning firsthand!

It all started in 1999, with Britney covering a few of Janet's hits on her first headlining tour...

while she also wasn't shy about expressing her love for Janet in interviews

Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation was featured in Britney's 2011 VMA commercial along with another notable influence in her career, Madonna.

And finally just last year Britney was dancing away to Janet's (underrated) track All Nite in the dance studio.
