ONTD Investigates: Are Justin Theroux and Lady Gaga dating?

$
0

Rumors are beginning to swirl around Gaga’s fan base that she may have already moved on from her ex-fiancé Christian to 47 year old actor Justin Theroux, who was married to Jennifer Aniston. The rumor started when an anonymous made a thread about the two dating on Lipstick Alley. The post read:

"I can't say too much because it might give who/what I work for away, but Justin Theroux (Jennifer Aniston's ex) and Lady Gaga are quietly dating. (Don't believe the Bradley rumours. He's as gay as the day is long.) The relationship between Theroux and Gaga is very new. They've only been seen each other for about a week, and both have busy schedules so it may not amount to much more than two people casually dating, but they're taking it a day at a time and seeing where it goes."

According to the anonymous source, the two are "quietly dating" and that it’s only been "about a week." This was brushed off by the fan base for a couple of hours, but then fans noticed this post happened hours earlier:

https://instagram.com/p/BurSbuMF9Ie

Justin is hanging out with Gaga’s BFF Mark Ronson. These two might have already been friends and this may just be a coincidence but it’ll be interesting to see if the rumor is true or not.

Do you think Gaga has moved on already or is this all just BS? Discuss!

Some New Artists to Celebrate International Women's Day (ONTD Original)

It's ladies night what! It must be OP on the mic! Okay I'll stop. Since it is soon approaching or already is International Women's Day in your part of the world, OP in her infinite wisdom wanted to curate a music playlist celebrating some new tracks from some ladies around the world. OP did her best traveling the world like Rick Steves and now she's back to bring you some ladies creating their art and making their stamp on the world. OP tried to narrow down to some artists who haven't been posted here or pretty infrequently. There's rap, indie, experimental, R&B.

1. IAMDBB - Kurr£ncy

Break out the tea and crumpets bruv - this Manchester rapper has released her new mixtape, Swervvvvv.5 which she describes as "urban trap jazz". Check out her latest single from her 2018 album Flightmode.

2. Tierra Whack - "Only Child"

The Philly super cool comic book nerd queen is back after delivering a visually stunning 15 min visual album.

3. Ebhoni - "TGM"

She's from Toronto but this song showcases the young singer's Jamaican roots all packaged in a cute video.

4. Sofia Kourtesis - "Lana Gaye"

The Peruvian born artist now lives in Berlin making experimental music for the inner art heaux in you. She released her first EP this year, so play it while you admire Barnett Newman.

5. SPELLLING - "Under the Sun"

The Oakland experimental singer (real name: Tia Cabral) has a wide range of influences from Massive Attack to Solange to goth rodeos (OP might think this is actually a thing). It kind of sounds like Mr. Bungle - she makes music for the alternative gorls who listen to "Back that Azz Up" while holding seances.

6. Roses Gabor - "I Could Be Yours"

IAMDBB's neighbor (okay, she's from London) released her debut album this year. She's collaborated with Gorillaz SBTRKT and now she's securing the spotlight for herself.

7. Y La Bamba - "Boca Llena"

Mexican-American singer-songwriter Luz Elena Mendoza is the heart of the band dream pop Y La Bamba that is now based in Portland. She blends together introspective lyrics of growing up and making political statements through her music.

8. Charlotte Adigéry - "Paténipat"

The Belgian-Caribbean singer released her debut EP, Zandoli last month. This song is sung in French creole and it's OP's favorite on the list.

OP would put more but she is tired, but finding these ladies gave her so many frequent flyer miles. Share your favorite ladies on for International Women's Day!

(ONTD Original) #InternationalWomensDay : Portrait Of A Woman

Those last few years, TV shows have been extremely successful and have featured original writing as well as innovative directing. Their production costs have skyrocketed along with their cultural values, supported by the global echo provided by the Internet.

Consequently, actresses are given more and more complex roles with introspective journeys, as online platforms seem to want to target all audiences and give more freedom and opportunities to shows’ creators regarding women’s voices.

Here are the reviews of3 shows whose writing showcases complex female characters, underlying interpretations of life’s challenges behind feminine glasses.

1. Tokyo Girl on Amazon Prime
Real name: Tokyo Joshi Zukan (東京女子図鑑)
Portrait of a Woman Asami Mizukawa.jpg

The main character

1. Tokyo Girl on Amazon Prime.jpg

Aya is 23 when she decides to move from her old and boring country town to the gigantic Tokyo. She is a quiet but ambitious young woman whose biggest fear while growing up was to end up like her mom : living a simple and modest life. Between social expectations and social statuses pressuring her, Aya observes others’ lives while trying to figure out what happiness means to her.

Portrait of a Woman bands.jpg
Interpreted by : Asami Mizukawa (35)

Why you should watch it:

First of all, for those who don’t know much about that Tokyo life, it’s really perfect to get a hand of it. The cinematography is beautiful and it is a well-timed exploration of Tokyo and its most popular places to live, work and love. Expect a hyper realistic style with a touch of Bovary-level type of writing, as it is also easy to connect with the character, especially if you are living and working in a big city. The overall balanced criticism of the Japanese society is subtle but strong and the character demonstrates a beautiful growth. Also, it is a rare opportunity for the western world to have such a finely written portrayal of a Japanese woman, in my opinion.
Thumbs up to Amazon for that choice!

Why you shouldn’t watch it:

Honestly there is really no reason not to watch it. I mean, look at what other Japanese contents Netflix is producing in the future : “My husband’s penis won’t fit” and “The emperor of porn”…. We know where they are going with this.  No more excuses to rush to Amazon Prime and watch Aya’s pop adventure in the (actual) city of lights!

2. She’s Gotta Have It on Netflix

She's gotta have it.jpg
The main character :

Nola Darling is “not a one-man woman” as she best describes it in the original picture of 1987. The 2017 Netflix version is telling the story of how she balances out 3 passionate relationships with the 3 men of her life (Jamie Overstreet, Mars Blackmon and Greer Childs) while trying to escape as much as possible social’s pressures and expectations.

Interpreted by DeWanda Wise (34)

Why you should watch it:

Like Aya’s journey in Tokyo, Nola’s life is also an exploration of Brooklyn’s identity. Artistic creativity rooted in Brooklyn’s streets, music, restaurants and schools are at the center of this show and as important as her introspective trip. Gentrification and racial biases are explored, being part of her world. Nolas’ unapologetic sexual emancipation is also something to feel greatly connected to. Especially knowing that her lifestyle is under threat by underlying slut-shaming. Her voice sings an ode to the “black body form” and the black woman, essential in that #representationmatters era. “She’s Gotta Have It” is an awesome way to find a tv show role model.
Nola and Mars.jpg
Why you shouldn’t watch it:

Isn’t Nola Darling just in love with herself? Could be a question one would ask after watching this show. Indeed, its biggest strengths might be its biggest flaws as well: she seems so unapologetic about everything that she comes off as very self-centered. We don’t really see much self-criticism, which makes her irritable. Will we see her seeking out answers not only inside herself but along the people who value her as a human being in S2?
3. Alias Grace on Netflix

The main character:

Grace Marks is a character based on a real person, an Irish-Canadian maid who was accused then condemned for participating in the murder of her employer Thomas Kinnear and his housekeeper Nancy Montgomery. Netflix’ version revisits Margaret Atwood’s original work published in 1999. Grace Marks is interviewed by a psychiatrist on the events of her life that led her to the murders, in order to establish her sanity. Along with Dr Jordan, the viewer discovers a gracious and prude personality, at odds with the things she goes to prison for. Her troubled identity is slowly uncovered, facing the public eye and its fantasies based on the way women were objectified at that time.

Interpreted by : Sarah Gadon (31)
Why you should watch it:

Finally, Grace’s innocence is the least of this show’s concern. What really interests us is that Grace Marks’ life is a statement of what could nurture rage in a woman’s life : the endless feeling of powerlessness that goes along with the feminine condition in patriarchy. Could the untold traumas of the past (sexual violence, fear of dishonor, notions of impurity….) lead to insanity? This show brilliantly deals with a powerful message, and Sarah Gadon’s performance is amazing.

Why you shouldn’t watch it:

If you don’t like historical dramas, this is not for you! Same thing if you are looking for a journey of emancipation, I would advise you to check out the two shows that I have mentioned. The character of this show doesn’t have any way out of her condition, of course it is in tune with what we could imagine of women’s lives at that time.

Happy International Women's Day! Here are 5 recs of books by women, about extraordinary women who have made a mark in history, whether by art, literature, politics and even war.

50 Women Artists You Should Know
by Christiane Weidemann, Melanie Klier

This beautifully produced, richly detailed and comprehensive survey of fifty influential women artists from the Renaissance to the Post-Modern era details their vast contributions to the art world. From the Early Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi and the seventeenth-century illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian to Impressionists Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot, and to modern icons such as Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keefe and Louise Bourgeois, the most important female artists are profiled in this book in chronologically arranged double-page spreads. For each artist there is a timeline highlighting significant events in her life; a succinct biography and information outlining her accomplishments and influence; additional resources to further study of the artist and, best of all, brilliant full-color reproductions of the artist's works. Packed with information, here is a stunning and absorbing book that clearly illustrates the remarkable artistic contributions of women throughout history.

Madame de Pompadour
by Nancy Mitford

When Madame de Pompadour became the mistress of Louis XV, no one expected her to retain his affections for long. A member of the bourgeoisie rather than an aristocrat, she was physically too cold for the carnal Bourbon king, and had so many enemies that she could not travel publicly without risking a pelting of mud and stones. History has loved her little better. Nancy Mitford's delightfully candid biography recreates the spirit of 18th-century Versailles with its love of pleasure and treachery. We learn and see France increasingly overcome with class conflict. With a fiction writer's felicity, Mitford restores the royal mistress and celebrates her as a survivor, unsurpassed in "the art of living," who reigned as the most powerful woman in France for nearly twenty years.

Jane Austen at Home
by Lucy Worsley

"Jane Austen at Home offers a fascinating look at Jane Austen's world through the lens of the homes in which she lived and worked throughout her life. The result is a refreshingly unique perspective on Austen and her work and a beautifully nuanced exploration of gender, creativity, and domesticity."--Amanda Foreman, author of Georgianna, Duchess of Devonshire. Worsley examines the rooms, spaces and possessions which mattered to Austen, and the varying ways in which homes are used in her novels as both places of pleasure and as prisons. Illustrated with two sections of color plates, Lucy Worsley's Jane Austen at Home is a richly entertaining and illuminating new book about one of the world’s favorite novelists and one of the subjects she returned to over and over in her unforgettable novels: home.

The Pillow Book
by Sei Shōnagon

Written by the court gentlewoman Sei Shonagon, ostensibly for her own amusement, The Pillow Book offers a fascinating exploration of life among the nobility at the height of the Heian period, over one thousand years ago, describing the exquisite pleasures of a confined world in which poetry, love, fashion, and whim dominated, while harsh reality was kept firmly at a distance. Moving elegantly across a wide range of themes including nature, society, and her own flirtations, Sei Shonagon provides a witty and intimate window on a woman's life at court in classical Japan.

Behind Enemy Lines: The True Story of a French Jewish Spy in Nazi Germany
by Marthe Cohn, Taylor Holden

Marthe Cohn was a young Jewish woman living just across the German border in France when Hitler rose to power. Soon her homeland was also under Nazi rule. Always a fighter, Marthe joined the French Army. As a member of the intelligence service of the French First Army, Marthe fought valiantly to retrieve needed inside information about Nazi troop movements by slipping behind enemy lines, utilizing her perfect German accent and blond hair to pose as a young German nurse who was desperately trying to obtain word of a fictional fiancé. By traveling throughout the countryside and approaching troops sympathetic to her plight, risking death every time she did so, she learned where they were going next and was able to alert Allied commanders. When, at the age of eighty, Marthe Cohn was awarded France’s highest military honor, the Médaille Militaire, not even her children knew to what extent this modest woman had faced death daily while helping defeat the Nazi empire.

ONTD Original: 3 scenes that got cut from Captain Marvel

$

0

As we all know, by the time is film is shot till the final cut is locked in, there are a bunch for scenes that don't make to to screen. We will have to wait till the DVD release to actually see them but for now, here are some details about a few scenes that we know have been cut from Captain Marvel.

1) Ronan and Yon-Rogg

When Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look photos from the movie back in September, there was a BTS photo of Anna Boden directing Lee Pace (who plays Ronan) and Jude Law (Yong-Rogg) for a scene. That scene did not make it to the final cut, and in the movie we got, Yong-Rogg and Ronan never actually come face-to-face, instead talking to each other hologromams. From this 2nd photo released, which shows Starforce walking by Ronan, this scene takes place as they leave for their first mission in the start of the movie.

2) Yon-Rogg and Supreme Intelligence
In an interview with Collider, Jude Law confirmed that he had a scene with Supreme Intelligence that was cut from the movie. According to a redditor who worked on some of the VFX on the movie, that scene takes place right before Yon-Rogg is sent to find Carol and the Tesseract. Want to know who Yon-Rogg sees as Supreme Intelligence? It's himself.

3) Carol and Supreme Intelligence
According to the same redditor, almost a third of Carol's second interaction with Supreme Intelligence was cut. You might have noticed that the memorable (for me at least) line from the 2nd trailer which SI says to Carol "We made you one of us, so you could live longer, stronger, superior." wasn't actually in the movie. Apparently, the scene as shortened because TPTB felt that it dragged on a bit.

Additionally, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck teased a "really kind of fascinating, bizarre, fun scene that didn't make it into the final film" in an interview.

*trivia according to IMDB

THAT THING YOU DO!

* Tom Hanks was reluctant to hire Tom Everett Scott because he felt Scott looked too similar to Hanks' younger self. Rita Wilson, Hanks' wife, convinced him to change his mind because she thought Scott was cute. (good call, rita! tom is cute as hell in this movie.)

* Steve Zahn was best man at Tom Everett Scott's wedding.

IT (2017)

* During his scenes with Pennywise, Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie) would cry and gag while Bill Skarsgard was in his face. "Skarsgård was genuinely concerned for Grazer and after the scene ended, asked him if he was okay. Grazer looked right at him and said 'Love what you're doing with the character!'"

* shipped to movie theaters as "Pound Foolish" GET IT???

NEAR DARK

* The crew got used to having to deal with a train that stopped at a nearby intersection at the same time every night. In full make up (with half his face missing) Bill Paxton caught one of the train workers leaving the engine and said "Hey, man, there's been an accident... and if you think I'm bad, wait 'til you see the other guy!"

* In the background of one scene, a billboard can been seen that says BILL + LOUISE. Bill Paxton's wife was Louise who he married that same year. (He also wrote her name on his uniform in Aliens.)

CLUELESS

* Alicia Silverstone incorrectly pronounced Haitians. Directer Amy Heckerling loved it though and told the crew not to correct her.

* Mr. Hall was based on a real debate teacher named Herb Hall who was a friend of the director Heckerling. Herb Hall was given a part as the school principal.

WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?

* Bob Hoskins (Eddie Valiant) claimed his son wouldn't speak to him for 2 weeks after he saw the movie. He was upset that his father worked with Bugs Bunny and didn't let him meet the rabbit.

* Tim Curry auditioned for Judge Doom but his performance was thought to be too scary. (God, I would've loved to seen this.)

I thought we could use a cute, possibly feel-good Sunday night post. Hope you all have a good upcoming week!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

* A couple of the "extras" (construction worker & window washer) during the parade scene were just regular people caught dancing to the music being played. Director John Hughes loved it and had the camera operators catch it.

* Edie McClurg (Grace the secretary) styled her own hair because she felt Grace thought she looked best in the 1960s, and the hairdresser on set couldn't do 60s hair. When John Hughes saw her hairdo he said "How many pencils do you think you can fit in that hair?" (answer: 3)

Aliens (1986)

* Bill Paxton would apologize to Carrie Henn (Newt) every time he had to swear in front of her. Henn said she didn't mind. She didn't know what most of it meant anyway.

* Director James Cameron wanted the actors to customize their own costumes for added realism. Bill Paxton wrote his then-girlfriend/future wife's name Louise on his.

Say Anything (1989)

* John Cusack gave his character (Lloyd) a scar and a back story. The backstory being that someone threw a rock at him when he was a kid.

* The chemistry between Cusack and costar Ione Skye was real. Skye admitted that if they hadn't both been seeing other people, they probably would've went home together the day they filmed the stick shift scene.

The Lost Boys (1987)

* The original screenplay was about a bunch of 5/6th grade kid vampires. One of the screen writers was interested in Peter Pan and the fact that he never grew old, could fly, and only visited the Darling children at night. In the screenplay, the brothers' names were Michael and John and the mother's name was Wendy. David's original name was Peter. Though they aged everyone up so it could be sexier*~, the title still alludes to the Peter Pan story. (There's also Nanook, inspired by Nana the dog.)

* Corey Haim would later say that making this movie was one of the "greatest personal times" of his life.

Back to the Future (1985)

* Michael J. Fox says stranger still call him "McFly!" Once he was in a remote jungle in the South Asian country Bhutan when a group of Buddhist monks passed by and one of them said "Marty McFly!"

* Eric Stoltz (originally cast as Marty McFly) decided to go Method. He insisted on being called Marty at all times even when not filming a scene. When Christopher Lloyd was told that Eric Stoltz was being replaced he replied, "Who's Eric? Oh, I really thought his name was Marty."

Stand By Me (1986)

* Jerry O'Connell, 11 at the time of filming, was impressed that he was being allowed to swear.

* When Jerry O'Connell traveled to his wife Rebecca Romijn's hometown, he discovered from her old high school friends that Stand By Me was her favorite film: "About three months into dating, my wife is from Berkeley, and I went up there to meet her high school friends. We got a little drunk and her high school best friend said to me, 'You know, "Stand by Me" is Rebecca's favorite movie of all time. You know she had posters of it all over her room growing up'. She never told me that.""

Leighton Meester's Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively has rather famously and pretty much undeniably had plastic surgery, but has Leighton Meester?

Inspired by THIS post where people speculated among other things that Leighton had had: a nose job, new veneers, fillers and/or a brow lift. Other people, including yours truly, argued that it's been 7 years since GG ended and in that time Leighton has lost her baby cheeks, aged from her mid 20s into her early 30s, changed up her hair and eyebrows, and had a baby.

12. Claire & Phil, Modern Family

I mean, yeah, they have their moments. They can be a bit messy sometimes, but they're still couple goals and very sweet to each other unlike Cam and Mitch.

11. Chandler & Monica, Friends

They were pretty sweet and considering how they got together and how many other shows used to make people hook up like crazy, it was nice to see them go strong for the next few seasons.

10. Jesse & Becky, Fuller House

They were adorable together and besides that plot in which she bribes the school to get her childre-- oh wait.

9. Ben & Leslie, Parks and Recreation

Adorable doesn't cut it. A love made in politics, their super-geeky attitude was so cute, and it was amazing seeing a man being the rock to a super powerful HBIC for once.

8. Marshall & Lily, How I Met Your Mother

They get engaged in the pilot, and they were each other's first everything. Also, the episodes when Marshall's dad dies still kill me.

7. Connor & Oliver, How To Get Away With Murder

What ended up like a hook up, ended up being one of the healthiest relationships (for a show where everyone has blood in their hands), also, it was a nice representation of a current mature HIV+ relationship.

6. Turk & Carla, Scrubs

For a time in which we didn't get that much representation, Turk and Carla weren't only good, they we're great. They talked through their issues. They got mad, but in the end they stood up for each other.

5. Nomi & Amanita, Sense8

They were an interracial lesbian couple, with one half being a mtf trans person. If that wasn't hard enough, Amanita shared her mind with other 7 individuals, and somehow they still were the best couple of the show. Even so that the final minutes of the show feature their wedding in Paris and their... orgy? I mean, it's healthy for sense8.

4. David & Bryan, The New Normal

Sure, it can be a bit preachy sometimes, but The New Normal gave us one thing that TV needed A LOT, a healthy, loving and real gay couple that were about to become parents. In a world where there's still a lot of critics of gay parents, this was a breath of fresh air.

3. Wash & Zoe, Firefly

THEY WE'RE PERFECT UNTIL FUCKING WHEDON HAD TO FUCK IT UP. I'm a leaf on the wind..., still Zoe and Wash were great, if you consider all the threats that come with being a space cowboy thief.

2. Burt & Virginia, Raising Hope

Sure, they fucked up and had their baby when they were teens, but Burt and Virginia's love kept going strong 20+ years end, and were a true role model for Jimmy.

1. Brad & Jane, Happy Endings

BOW DOWN TO EVERYONE'S OTP.

ONTD Original: A Mini-History of Chris Hemsworth Stretching

While recently taking a photo with a cute animal, it was Chris Hemsworth's posture that caught people's attention what with his ass sticking out with the way he arches his back.

And then people went through other candid/pap photos of him and noticed a pattern of how he stretches himself out.

Maybe he's been stretching in this particular way earlier than 2014, but this was the earliest photo I could recall. Spending time with his daughter on the beach and playing around.

He's no stranger to the beach as he likes to surf a lot, and he likes to stretch before (or maybe after) doing so. This is from a beach trip in 2015.

Chris-Hemsworth-Shirtless-After-Surfing

Back in 2016, people were also going gaga over the way he stretched himself out after a flight.

Ct7i4htUMAAXmLICt7i4htVMAA_usa

And he even wrote a foreword in a book about the form of our bodies

https://instagram.com/p/BHk2gLphRjS

In 2017, he spoke with W Magazine about the type of stretching he does.

W Magazine: Do you do yoga or a have a specific stretching style?

Hemsworth: A little bit, yeah. I think yoga’s one thing that becomes a part of flexible in my lower back, which has been good for me. So I do a lot more Pilates, core. It’s tough. You can have a completely cosmetic muscle, or just complete sort of cosmetic bodybuilding stuff which is fine on screen, but I think a lot of times it’s about next level is when you can tell its function when people move differently, and it suits out lifestyle better. I feel with all the sort of back problems and knee problems and whatever, the more I kind of moved and had a larger range of motion, a lot of those issues with kneeling, certain joint pains were tended to dissipate the more I kind of...larger, more versatile sort of training.

Other stretches from years I can't place

PART ONE

Fifteen years ago, artists like Nina Sky, Hoobastank, and Kevin Lyttle were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2004 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, it's always fun to revist the past and remember what we were doing when we were listening to these songs back in the day. This list continues "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2004!

KIMBERLY LOCKE - 8TH WORLD WONDER

"8th World Wonder"is the debut single from American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke. The single debuted on the Billboard Singles Sales Chart at no. 1, making it the first non-Idol single to top the chart from any Idol finalist at the time. "8th World Wonder" is one of the longest-running Idol singles to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 20 weeks on the chart and peaking at number 49. Outside the United States, the song only managed to chart in the United Kingdom, also reaching number 49.

SARAH CONNOR - BOUNCE

"Bounce" is a song by German recording artist Sarah Connor that was released in 2002. The song samples Mary J. Blige's 2001 song "Family Affair." Bounce was originally released as the album's fourth and final single in Central Europe in July 2003. It reached the top twenty in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Walloon Region of Belgium. Due to large amounts of airplay in the United States, the song reached no. 11 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream and no. 21 on Top 40 Tracks charts, eventually charting on the Billboard Hot 100 at nno. 44. "Bounce" was given a physical US release in May 2004, serving as Connor's debut single there.

MARIO WINANS - I DON'T WANNA KNOW

"I Don't Wanna Know" was released in February 2004, featuring P. Diddy and re-recorded background vocals by Enya. It reached no. 1 in the United Kingdom and in the Netherlands, and no. 2 on the Hot 100 in the United States, stuck for eight consecutive weeks behind the Usher singles "Yeah!" and "Burn." It remains Winans' only major success to date.

HOUSTON - I LIKE THAT

"I Like That" was the first single off Houston's 2004 debut album. It features Chingy, Nate Dogg, and I-20. Released in March 2004, the track peaked at no. 3 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and no. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted in the top 40 in countries like Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand, and Switzerland.

CHERIE - I'M READY

"I'm Ready" was released by French pop singer Cherie in 2004 from her self-titled album Cherie. The song reached no. 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, becoming her biggest hit. It also peaked on no. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to being featured on the soundtrack for 2004's 'Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen.'

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png

This week’s biggest release is Jordan Peele’s Us, and the other big studios are not putting up any new competition. The Sarah Michelle Gellar starring teen classic Cruel Intentions is getting a 20th anniversary theatrical re-release, giving folks like me whose moms decided it wasn’t “appropriate” to see as a teen a chance to see it on the big screen. In other indie news, Gloria Bell is expanding, so check your local theater to see if Julianne Moore is waiting for you.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have just opened near you: March 15th, March 8th, and March 1st. And please add your letterboxd in the comments if you’d like!

What have you been watching, ONTD? Planning to see anything soon?

ONTD Original: Four reasons why 'Will & Grace' has been great this season.

$
0
0
1. They're physical comedy royalty.

THEY. ARE. HILARIOUS. And still have amazing chemistry after all these years. The crouton scene is a great proof.

2. They keep tackling important issues.

Will & Grace used to be a voice for LGBTQ+ issues back then, and still is now. A recent episode tackled blood donation from LGBTQ+ when Grace's dad refused to get a donation from Will.

3. Guest stars have been surprisingly good.

Matt Bomer has been a hoot (still can't act) but they wrote him around his handsomeness. David Schwimmer has been surprisingly nice and not Ross at all. Samira Wiley was fucking adorable and hilarious.

4. They keep making characters grow.

This season, after many failed relationships, Karen finally has fallen for a woman, and Jack's getting married and surprisingly refused to cheat. Will and Grace have also realized their codependency is hurting their love life and they decided to move in with their partners.

ONTD Investigates: Where is Britney Spears?

$
0
0

It has been 78 days since Britney Spears announced the cancellationpostponement of her second Las Vegas residency, Domination. Britney (aka Larry Rudolph) has only been present on social media one more time with a post celebrating the 20th anniversary of ...Baby One More Time and has been silent on all other fronts with her profile pictures being replaced by the BOMT cover and headers replaced with Rainbow Fantasy ads (which has still yet to be found in North America or Britney's online store). Meanwhile, stans have been filling the void with the press that has followed since the Domination cancellation and trying to decipher where in the world is Britney Spears?

Since the announcement of her hiatus, our Target-running queen has only been seen on camera twice.

Once, getting a milkshake at a mall by herself:

And another driving her car, through the In-N-Out drive-thru with boyfriend Sam Asghari:

As the B Army knows, Britney rarely drives herself anywhere and has said in the past that driving her car is a very freeing experience.

As ONTD previously reported, Justin Trantor has reportedly signed on to executive produce Britney’s next album. Then, earlier last month, Danja tweeted hinting that he would also be involved with #B10.

This was followed by a picture of the two together, leading fans to speculate if Blackout 2.0 might actually be coming.

However, Britney's team has since denied that she is working on any new music.

ONTD also previously reported that Andrew Wallet, Britney’s co-conservator had resigned which leaves Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, as sole conservator. During this time, a Britney podcast began their own investigation and found that there were some red flags. According to court documents obtained by one of the podcast hosts, Britney filed her own declaration to the court, which has never happened throughout the entire conservatorship. This has lead to speculation that Andrew Wallet had been mismanaging Britney’s finances and Britney found out, causing him to resign and her to file her own declaration of urgency.

The podcast also explores the shadiness of Lou Taylor and her involvement with Britney’s conservatorship - definitely a recommended listen!

As always, Team Britney is always looking for the next place to score an extra dollar. Last weekend, a new shirt showcasing the same recycled “nostalgic” design appeared in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

As Jamie has reportedly gone in for another surgery at the beginning of this month, there have been the usual reports that Britney wants to get married/have a baby with Sam, but her dad has not approved of either of those.

Blind items also began to swirl around that were revealed to allegedly be about Britney’s sobriety:

“Without that strict oversight she is used to having, the times this permanent A list “singer” has been drunk has increased ten fold over the past month. Someone needs to step in now before it gets out of hand.” (source)

And finally, this week Britney was sighted using the washroom at a PR firm by a Twitter gay who shared some TMI information after being asked for details.

ONTD, what are your theories about Britney's whereabouts? Do you think that she's spending time out of the spotlight with her family or do you think that there is more to the story than what is in the press? Is B10 coming or will it be scrapped?

Side note - this is my first post ever so please forgive me if it's a hot mess.

Latin America's latest It girl is making waves with smooth female-empowering trap music which has resulted in several record-breaking accomplishments. Meet Paloma Mami.

Paloma Castillo was born in NYC and often traveled to Chile during summer vacations, her singing only started after attending a Bad Bunny concert, it was then that she decided to pursue a career professionally.

Her first foray into the music industry was being a contestant in a Chilean talent show called Rojo, where after entering the competition in the middle of the race she was saved by the judges for elimination which caused havoc among her fellow competitors who wanted their friend to be saved instead rather than this new girl, even her own coach was upset about her surviving elimination. Such was the uproar, that Paloma decided to then abruptly quit the show, which had offered her a very stifling deal.

Paloma performing for the first time on national television for Rojo doing a Mon Laferte cover.

Soon after her departure, Paloma released a single independently along with a music video both in 2018. Not Steady gradually started to get buzz and has gone on to receive appreciation from Maluma & Becky G, while getting over 40 million streams on Spotify. Not Steady made such an impact that it caught the eye of Sony Latin representatives who quickly traveled to Chile to sign her.

Getting signed to Sony Latin had become the first time a Chilean singer was given a deal with a major record label, and the exposure and support that it offered proved itself to be successful when her first single from that record deal broke the record for most YouTube videos in 24 hours after No Te Enamores premiered in 2018, the single has also reached over 40 million streams on Spotify and helped her become the most streamed female artist in Chile surpassing Mon Laferte.

After starting to play some small live shows in Chile, Paloma premiered another song that has yet to get an official release, Don't Talk About Me deals with the jealousy and envy her fellow Rojo contestants displayed during her stay. The song has also made it to her live setlist. The heat around her first two singles also caught the attention who included her in an article for upcoming artists who were "changed the sound of trap forever."

2019 has gone up to a great start by being booked to play Lollapalooza Chile at the end of March, becoming the first Chilean artist to obtain a certification from RIAA when No Te Enamores was certified GOld, and more recently breaking her own 24 hour most YouTube views record when her latest single Fingías got 2.4 million views this week, it has also been trending at #1 for about four days in a row on YouTube.

Get on the right side of history and follow Paloma Mami on Spotify. You're welcome.

We are living in an age where everyone and their grandmother currently has a podcast. While this abundance of content is great for shift workers, those with long commutes, and the perpetually bored - it also means that a lot of gems can get lost in the over saturated sea of internet based entertainment.

Below I've listed five podcasts that you might not be aware of but that you'll probably enjoy. I've left out major podcasts that are constantly making the top charts and that you've almost certainly already heard of if you listen to podcasts regularly (e.g. WTF with Marc Maron, Who Weekly, True Crime Podcasts, anything from NPR, etc). Check out the list below!

1. David Tennant Does a Podcast With...
Did you guys know that David Tennant has a podcast!? Because I sure didn't! Started in January of this year, David Tennant interviews celebrity guests including Olivia Colman, Sir Ian McKellen, Whoopi Goldberg, Jodie Whittaker and more (future episodes will feature Samantha Bee, Kristen Ritter, and Michael Sheen). His soothing voice is perfect for podcasting and the lineup of celebrity guests is excellent. You can find a full list of episodes here and can follow the podcast on twitter and instagram!

2. Nocturne
Are you a night owl? Does the late night enthral you or terrify you? Or is what most people consider the late night actually your morning? Either way, Nocturne is just about that - night time and everything it encompasses. From the Norwegian city plunged in darkness for two months a year, to the creative power of night time poets, to the people delivering food in NYC after the sun goes down. You can listen to full episodes here.

If you're not sure where to start, check out "Vampire Beat" that features an interview with Jade Walker - a journalist that has been the overnight editor for news organizations like the New York Times, The Associated Press, and Yahoo! News as well as The Huffington Post. Listen to her talk about what it's like to be following news all over the world at 3am to make sure that news sites are up to date when major events happen.

3. The Allusionist

The Allusionist is a podcast all about language. It covers the history of words, how we use certain words today, and fascinating stories about how language evolves throughout pop culture plus so much more. Since ONTD is a gossip blog, check out Episode 93 which is all about the word gossip (I promise, if you don't know the etymology of the word, it will 100% surprise you!):

4. The Tip Off
Our world is a fucking mess right now, from politics to climate change to income inequality, and journalists have never seemed more important than right now. The Tip Off interviews journalists responsible for some excellent recent examples of investigative journalism so that the public can get a sense of what their jobs often entail - including how they get their leads, the dead-ends they run into, and, of course, the tip offs they receive. You can find all the episodes on iTunes.

5. Sooo Many White Guys
Hosted by Phoebe Robinson (of 2 Dope Queens podcast fame), Sooo Many White Guys aims to interview interesting people that (mostly) aren't white men. Guests include Issa Rae, Jameela Jamil, Hannibal Burress, Awkwafina, and Constance Wu among many others.

ONTD Original: 10 Forgotten Reality Shows of the 2000s

$
0
0
For over two decades, reality television has dominated the screens. During the 2000s, reality television was at it's peak, with hits such as Survivor, Big Brother, American Idol, Top Model, Real Housewives, and many more. While these shows achieved massive success and still run to this day (or in Idol and Top Model's cases, were cancelled and revived), some shows were big hits during their day and have become cult classics (such as The Hills and vh1's "of Love" franchise). Other shows however, have been largely forgotten. The following is a list of shows that ran during the 2000s that most people have forgotten about.

1. Rich Girls - MTV (2003-2004)

Rich Girls was an MTV series that ran for one season starring Ally Hilfiger (daughter of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger) and her then-friend Jaime Gleicher, focusing on their final year of high school, followed by luxurious vacations and their lives as "rich girls".

2. I Want To Be a Hilton - NBC (2005)

After the sucess of Paris Hilton's show The Simple Life, NBC and Rick Hilton produced this summer show to keep Kathy Hilton busy while Rick  had another affair as a competition to find a regular person and turn them into a socialite, by introducing them to the New York socialite lifestyle, having the contestants compete in lessons on etiquette, fashion, networking and more. The winner would recieve a $250K trustfund and a penthouse apartment.

3. Queen Bees - The N (2008)

Queen Bees, hosted by America's Next Top Model winner Yoanna House, aired on The N network in 2008 was created as a competition to teach a group of teen "Queen Bees" to become nicer people, where the winner the most points in the end would win $25,000, since we all know, it's so difficult to suddenly act nicer when there's money on the table. This show introduced us to Stassi Schroeder, who is now on Vanderpump Rules.

4. Pretty Wicked - Oxygen (2009)

Similar to Queen Bees, even hosted by a different former Top Model winner (Caridee English) but with slightly older women competing and a similar concept, this show featured a bunch of shallow women who primarily focused on their appearance to see who was the most beautiful on the inside.

5. Are You Hot? - ABC (2003)

In the opposite direction of the last two shows mentioned, this show (with the subtitle The Search for America's Sexiest People) featured judges Lorenzo Lamas and Rachel Hunter as they judged people purely by their physical appearance. Nothing else.

6. NYC Prep - Bravo (2009)

This wannabe reality version of Gossip Girl focused on teens in Upper East Side who lived in the "top half of the one percent", and featured Sebastian on an awkward date in the video above, besties PC and Jessie (the only only blonde on the show), and three brunette girls who all looked the same who's names I cannot even remember.

7. Farmer Wants a Wife - The CW (2008)

While this show has had more success in Australia and other countries, it ran for one season in the US. Before we saw Chris "Prince Farming" Soules (and drunk tractor driver) on The Bachelor, there was Farmer Wants a Wife.  This show featured a bunch of high-maintenance "city girls" competing for the love of a handsome farmer in Missouri.

8. The 70s House - MTV (2005)

With the success and popularity of That 70s Show came The 70s House, in which modern-day 20-somethings lived in a Brady Bunch-looking house, wore 70s clothing, gave up their cellphones and MP3 players, and had to compete to see who could be the most "70s", after which the winner would recieve some modern day prizes. The show was hosted by Natasha Leggero (or "Dawn" as she was called in this for some reason), and occasionally brought back d-list celebrities from that decade.

9. Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods - MTV (2008)

As Laura Bell Bundy's run as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical on Broadway was coming to an end, MTV produced this show (hosted by Broadway star Haylie Duff) to look for her replacement, as the contestants competed in weekly tasks focusing on their singing, acting and dancing, as the judges would be closer to determing who would be the next Elle Woods.

10. The Swan - Fox (2004)

Possibly the most controversial show on the list, was Fox's The Swan. This show not only fed off of women's insecurities and encouraged them to get dangerous cosmetic procedures, but also judged them in the end with a beauty pageant contest, the most beautiful of whom would be crowed "The Swan". Despite the criticism, it managed to run for two whole seasons before being cancelled.
