ONTD ORIGINAL: A look back at our favorite The-N shows!

$

For young millennials, The-N was THE channel we all grew up watching. It broadcasted all of the teen shows that related to our adolescent struggles. The-N understood who we really were inside. Nostalgia is all the rage these days, so here's a list of teen shows that dominated our Friday nights in the early-mid 2000s!

Instant Star (2004-2008)

16-year-old Jude Harrison wins an American Idol-esque talent competition called "Instant Star". The show follows her life as she evolves into a bonafide rockstar, falls in love with bad boy ex-boyband member and producer, Tommy Quincy (b.k.a. Lil Tommy Q) , and tries to balance her normal teenaged life and her newfound fame. It was canceled after 4 seasons due to lack of funding from the channel (and I will never forgive them for that rushed ending). The show features a teenaged Tatiana Masley in its final season and has some of the best soundtracks of all TV shows EVER. Even the Backstreet Boys covered one of the songs on their album "Unbreakable" [Japanese edition].

Backstreet Boys cover

South of Nowhere (2005-2008)

A religious family of 5 moves from Ohio to California. The series focuses on the high school drama of siblings Spencer, Clay and Glen, as well as their parents and the difficulties of moving from a small conservative town to glamorous and liberal South California. Similar to Degrassi: The Next Generation, South of Nowhere was praised for dealing with controversial issues affecting teens such as addiction, sexuality and teen pregnancies.

Queen Bees (2008)

Super shit quality of the girls' intro:

The main reason why Instant Star was canceled was because The-N wanted to pour funding into reality T.V. shows. Enter Queen Bees, a show about rich girls with nasty attitudes who tried to become better people through various character-building challenges. It featured Stassi Schroeder of Vanderpump Rules fame and gave us some great gifs, courtesy of queen Shavon.

Beyond the Break (2006-2009)

Four female surfers navigate life in Hawaii while realizing their dreams to become the best pro surfers in the world. The show features a pre-Japanese potato'd Olivia Munn and Kim Kardashian's original face!

Miracle's Boys (2004-2005)

Based on the novel by Jacqueline Woodson, Pooch Hall's fine ass stars as the oldest brother of three, struggling to raise his younger siblings in pre-gentrified Harlem after their parents die. It only lasted a season but I remember it being a decent show. Any excuse to look at Pooch Hall is great tbh.

Radio Free Roscoe (2003-2006)

A group of high school students create a pirate radio station and hide behind fake identities to keep their radio personalities a secret. High school shenanigans and love triangles happen.

Girls vs. Boys (2003-2007)

A teenaged version of The Challenge: Road Rules v. Real World, except the teams were separated by gender. The teens were made to live together in a house and compete in physical challenges. In the end, whichever team had the most points split a check amongst themselves. Each season was held at a different location and featured a different cast. Lauren Collins and Jake Epstein (Paige and Craig from Degrassi: The Next Generation) joined the teams in season 2. This show has damn near been scrubbed from the Internet.

AND OF COURSE, LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE MOTHER OF ALL TEEN SHOWS!

Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001-2015)

Easily the most iconic show for teenaged Millennials, Degrassi: The Next Generation dealt with every issue you can possibly imagine (puberty, racism, homophobia, school shootings, teen pregnancies, rape, etc.). The show featured a couple of actors who have blown up beyond the Canadian borders!

Drake (Jimmy Brooks)

Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones aka Mamma Mia)

Shenae Grimes (Darcy Edwards)

Craig Manning (Jake Epstein)

Other forgotten The-N shows: The Best Years, About A Girl, Whistler, O'Grady, The Assistants (featuring a young Michael B. Jordan).

ONTD Original: 6 Examples That Prove Dictionaries Give Zero Fucks On Twitter

$

Dictionary twitter accounts are both educational and brutal. Yes, you read that right - dictionary twitter accounts are some of the biggest trolls on twitter, and it's amazing. Below the cut is a collection of tweets made by both the Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster twitter accounts to highlight the savagery (and sanity) of these word nerds:

6 Times Dictionaries Gave Zero Fucks On Twitter

6. Dictionary.com Joins The Roast of DJ Khaled
After DJ Khaled said he doesn't eat pussy but demands head from his wife because the rules are different between men and women, twitter was whipped up into a roasting frenzy and Dictionary.com wasn't afraid to join the party:

5. Dictionaries Hate Republicans

Here's Dictionary.com calling American Vice President Pence a "sycophant"

Here's Merriam-Webster calling bullshit on "alternative facts"

And here's Dictionary.com again coming for the NRA after a speaker incorrectly said that political and media elites were the "definition of dystopia" (they also just called Sarah Huckabee Sanders a hypocrite lol)

4. They Also Hate Sexists and Homophobes
Dictionaries are quick to shut down backlash that stems from a sexist or homophobic place, including the shitstorm over the Ghostbusters all-female remake and the announcement that Doctor Who would be played by a woman for the first time ever:

3. They'll Hold You To Your Word
After Michelle Wolf's amazing appearance at the White House Correspondent's Dinner, Dennis Miller decided to take to twitter to say he would have a string of mean jokes about her to come on the following Wednesday (they never came and Dictionary.com made that perfectly clear).

2. They Have No Time For Revisionist Bullshit
In response to Kanye saying that slavery "was a choice", Dictionary.com shut that down real quick:

Got that, #Kanye?

1. This Act of Cannibalism
They even go after their own.

ONTD Original: Five Gorgeous Gay and Bisexual Male Models

$

0
Someone once told me that my type was "unspeakably gorgeous men" and well...they were right. I mean is it so wrong to have extra high standards for men since 9 times out of 10 they're trash? I'd rather have a trashbag who looks like Apollo than a trashbag who looks like Hades, just saying. Plucked from my innermost lusty fascinations, here are five of the most beautiful male models that identify as either gay or bisexual. So don't worry gals and gays, there's a fuckboy in here for everyone. FYI, most of the pics below the cut are NSFW.

REECE KING
title or descriptiontitle or description

With cheekbones sculpted by the ghost of Michelangelo, and a piercing gaze reserved for only the most Scorpio of Scorpios, Reece is a 23-year-old model from Essex, England. His father is Irish and his mother is from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. His career is still up-and-coming, but he has gained a bit of notoriety over the internet thanks to his 565,000 thirsty Instagram followers and some risque boudoir photo shoots. While he has discussed his sexuality briefly on his Twitter account, he officially came out as bisexual this year in an interview with Gay Times Magazine.

WILLY CARTIER
title or description233ce1531d90298375094d5e759fca2d

Do you ever look at someone and think "It's completely unfair how attractive you are. Get off of this planet!"? That's how I feel every time I look at this man. Former flame of Frank Ocean, Willy is a 26-year-old model from France of Vietnamese, Senegalese, and French descent. Willy got his big break when he was chosen as the face for Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Fall/Winter campaign in 2010. With his androgynous beauty, Willy has modeled both men's and women's fashion. While I don't think he's ever publicly commented on his sexuality, I believe he is bisexual, as he also dated French model Anais Mali in 2015.

EDISON FAN
title or descriptiontitle or description

Chinese-born New Zealander Edison Fan is a 36-year-old model who bathes in the blood of the innocent because I could've sworn sis was like 25. With a large social media following, creator of Chinese-based sports apparel company OMG, and a judge on Chinese modelling competition show I Supermodel, he's developed a pretty cushy brand for himself. Edison identifies as gay, and was engaged or married idk to some New Zealand guy named Josh Taylor, but I can't tell if they're still together. In late 2017, Edison welcomed a baby boy I'm assuming by surrogate but there's no photos of Josh with this bb, so I'm guessing he's single now if anyone's looking for a daddy?

BARRETT PALL
title or descriptiontitle or description

I'll admit I don't know much about this Abercrombie-looking motherfucker, but I'm a sucker for his freckles and big lips. A quick trip to Wikipedia tells me that he's a 30-year-old Jewish-American model from New York. Openly gay, Pall is proud of both his religion and his sexuality. Like many attention and money-seeking individuals of today's generation, Pall also has a decently successful YouTube channel with 25k subscribers. He has shot campaigns for Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, Modern Luxury, Hobbs and Kent, Diesel, Lacoste and others.

JON KORTAJARENA
title or descriptiontitle or description

Without a doubt the most famous and successful model on this list, if not one of the most famous and successful male models of our generation, Jon has had a noteworthy career in the fashion industry since 2004. He is irrefutably beautiful, whether he does it for you or not, and once again, it's not fair that people get to look like this. He is 32 years old and hails from Spain, where he was "discovered" at a fashion show in Barcelona. He has had a small acting career as well, with bit roles in the 2009 film A Single Man and the TV show Quantico. While there's no receipts of him commenting on his sexuality, his most famous relationship has been his rumored but obvious off/on-again romance with actor Luke Evans.

Here's my top ten favorite horror movie list, I decided my favorite movies are the ones I can watch over and over again and still enjoy them + those I like to recommend to other people to see, and not by how popular the are or how many awards they have won or if they are consider classics or not, just horror movie I really enjoy and love! But that doesn't mean this list is filled with direct to dvd bin horror movies..

Enjoy, and please don't judge my choices (or my english!) 💖

evil dead

The Evil Dead (1981) & Evil Dead II (1987)
Note: okay i know this is technically two movies but they are sequels so I count it as one :P

Why it's one of my fave: Evil Dead was one of those old film I thought I wouldn't like, I was so sure it was just overrated 80's horror trash that people just convince themselves they liked because your supposed to like it (youknow like 2001: A Space Odyssey) because it's a ''cult-classic''. I don't why I thought that but I did and guess what I freaking loved it, and the second movie is even better! (never seen the third one :/)

About:

Evil Dead: Five college students take time off to spend a peaceful vacation in a remote cabin. A book and audio tape is discovered, and its evil is found to be powerful once the incantations are read out loud. The friends find themselves helpless to stop the evil as it takes them one by one, with only one survivor left with the evil dead and desperately tries to fight to live until morning.

Evil Dead 2: Ashley Williams travels to a secluded cabin in the woods with his girlfriend Linda where they find a tape recording of a professor and a book of evil. This unleashes a bunch of evil spirits that constantly terrorize Ash. Meanwhile a journalist comes to the area to study the book of evil. Ash and her end up having to survive this swarm of evil until morning comes.

troll

Trollhunter (2010)

Why it's one of my fave: I love found footage/mockumentaries films, it's one of my favorite sub horror genres and founding a found footage/mockumentary movie that's about Scandinavian folktales (folklores??) ofc it's gonna become one of my favorite horror movies!

About: A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.

the ring

The Ring (2002)

Why it's one of my fave: The Ring was one of my first horror movies I saw that really scared me, like every time I see something that looks like a person with long black hair in the dark (you know when you trying to sleep and you look around in your room and you see that chair that you just stack clothes on and it kinda look like a person?) I immediately think it Samara #scarredforlife

About: Rachel Keller is a journalist investigating a videotape that may have killed four teenagers (including her niece). There is an urban legend about this tape: the viewer will die seven days after watching it. If the legend is correct, Rachel will have to run against time to save her son's and her own life.

28288
288828888

28 Days Later...(2002)

Why it's one of my fave: Because Cillian Murphy is in it and it's a really great movie!

About: A powerful virus escapes from a British research facility. Transmitted in a drop of blood and devastating within seconds, the virus locks those infected into a permanent state of murderous rage. Within 28 days the country is overwhelmed and a handful of survivors begin their attempts to salvage a future, little realising that the deadly virus is not the only thing that threatens them.

as above

As Above, So Below (2014)

Why it's one of my fave: I just really like this film, I don't really know how to explain why I like it..sorry

About: Miles of twisting catacombs lie beneath the streets of Paris, the eternal home to countless souls. When a team of explorers ventures into the uncharted maze of bones, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead. A journey into madness and terror, As Above, So Below reaches deep into the human psyche to reveal the personal demons that come back to haunt us all.

Carrie

Carrie (1976)

Why it's one of my fave: You don't have to know why this is one of my favorite horror film you just need to accept the fact that it is <3

About: This classic horror movie based on Stephen King's first novel stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a shy, diffident teenager who is the butt of practical jokes at her small-town high school. Her blind panic at her first menstruation, a result of ignorance and religious guilt drummed into her by her fanatical mother, Margaret, only causes her classmates' vicious cruelty to escalate, despite the attentions of her overly solicitous gym teacher. Finally, when the venomous Chris Hargenson engineers a reprehensible prank at the school prom, Carrie lashes out in a horrifying display of her heretofore minor telekinetic powers.

Blair Witch

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Why it's one of my fave: The Blair Witch Project is the film that made me love found footage films, I know a lot of people think this movie is overrated but I personally think this is an amazing horror movie and even if you don't like found footage film you should watch the movie that popularized the found footage technique.

About: Three film students travel to Maryland to make a student film about a local urban legend... The Blair Witch. The three went into the woods on a two day hike to find the Blair Witch, and never came back. One year later, the students film and video were found in the woods. The footage was compiled and made into a movie. The Blair Witch Project.

Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead (2002)

Why it's one of my fave: Me and my sister used to watch this all the time and it was the first horror-comedy film I saw, since then I knew that horror doesn't always mean scary, it can be funny too!

About: Shaun doesn't have a very good day, so he decides to turn his life around by getting his ex to take him back, but he times it for right in the middle of what may be a zombie apocalypse... But for him, it's an opportunity to show everyone he knows how useful he is by saving them all. All he has to do is survive... And get his ex back.

screamscreamm

Scream (1996)

Why it's one of my fave: Scream is just a horror classic, you can't watch this movie without falling in love with it, I still watch this movie during Halloween (and everyone know that Halloween isn't just one day, it's the entry month of October!)

About: 1 year after her mother's death, Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell), and her friends started experiencing some strange phone calls. They later learned the calls were coming from a crazed serial killer, in a white faced mask and a large black robe, looking for revenge. His phone calls usually consist of many questions, the main one being: Whats your favorite scary movie? Along with many scary movie trivia, ending with bloody pieces of innocent lives scattered around the small town of Woodsboro.

Eyes Without a Face

Eyes Without a Face (1960)

Why it's one of my fave: One night many years ago I was lurking on youtube and came across this film, I was really sure it was boring old horror film that I could watch to pass the time but I really fell for this movie. It's great, 100% recommend.

About: After causing an accident that left his daughter Christiane severely disfigured, the brilliant surgeon Dr. Génessier works tirelessly to give the girl a new face. He does so however by kidnapping young women and attempting face transplants. He has been woefully unsuccessful to date. The doctor's world begins to collapse around him when his daughter realizes just what he has been doing.

Also some of my fave horror movies: The Cabin in the Woods (2012), The Descent (2005), Saw (2004), House of 1000 Corpses (2003), Eden Lake (2008), Lake Mungo (2008), The Others (2001), You're Next (2011) & like all horror classics.

What's your favorite horror films??

ONTD Original: Jordan Peele's Greatest Horrors (Before Get Out)

$
0
0
Get Out was one of the best films of 2017. A razor sharp horror satire which has already become iconic, this award-winning smash hit came out of nowhere. OR DID IT? Fans of writer-director Jordan Peele's much-missed show, Key & Peele, will be familiar with his and comedy partner Keegan-Michael Key's deep love of all things horror. Let's take a look back at some of their scariest skits.

An Aerobics Champion Gets Some Bad News

Horror inspo: Playing off the found footage genre, this grimy VHS copy of the 1987th Jazz Fit Championship (a pretty spot on parody of this) turns to tragedy. Features genre fave Clint Howard and a truly brilliant performance by Keegan-Michael Key dancing through the pain.

A Dying Kid Makes A Wish

Horror inspo: "Devil child" movies like The Omen, Bad Seed and The Good Son. A kid at the hospital gets a visit from the Make-A-Wish foundation.

LMFAO Tries To Leave A Party

Horror inspo: Metaphysical escape horror Cube, possibly Harlan Ellison's short story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. LMFAO sing a song about partying forever, and realise that's exactly what they're doomed to do.

Meegan and Amy buy a puppy

Horror inspo: Meegan is an iconic comedy sociopath in the mold of Julia Davis' Jill Tyrell and this sketch cuts right to her dark core, taking the horror-inspired vernacular of edgy millennials to the next level.

Roommate Meeting

Horror inspo: The post-Ringu Japanese horror that made bank in the West - all pasty wraiths and creepy effects. The sketch is charmingly filmed in the style of That 70s Show!, which makes for a pretty unique mash-up.

Hall of Mirrors Showdown

Horror inspo: The Hannibal universe serial killers Buffalo Bill and The Tooth Fairy inform Jordan Peele's psychotic killer. Also, how lush is this sketch visually? When will Nicolas Winding Refn

Continental breakfast

Horror inspo: Obviously, The Shining. A paean to the glory of a complimentary hotel breakfast becomes something all the more disturbing and eternal.

ONTD Original: Happy Birthday Lisa Simpson! A Look at Lisa's Best Episodes

Lisa Simpson stays 8 years old today!

Dispite being 8, Lisa is one of the smartest characters in The Simpsons and a champion for women's, unions, and animals rights. When she's not busy marrying a carrot, you can find her either practicing her saxamaphone, day dreaming about riding horses, playing with her peach tree, or having her Malibu Stacy doll, who lives in model studio apartment made out a shoe box, print her weekly feminist newsletter. Not without flaw, Lisa is stubborn which has resulted in her not having many friends and sometimes her family becomes collateral damage when she tries to make a point.

Lisa has proven time and time again that he's wrong, you're wrong, the whole damn system is wrong.

Let's take a peek at some of my personal favorite episodes centered around Lisa

Lisa's Substitute - S2 E19

Lisa's teacher, Ms. Hoover, takes a medical leave of absence for what she thought was Lyme's Disease but turned out to be psy-cho-somatic, so they hire a substitute teacher, Mr. Bergstrom. Lisa quickly becomes inspired and enfatuated with him and his teaching abilities. Crushed when Ms. Hoover comes back, Lisa goes chasing after Mr. Bergstrom at the train station where he gives her a note saying that she can find inspiration in one person when she ever feels alone.

Choice quote:
"Whenever you feel like you're alone and there's nobody you can rely on this is all you need to know."

Lisa Vs. Malibu Stacy - S5 E14

Upset about Talking Malibu Stacy's phrases, Lisa seeks the help of the original creator of Malibu Stacy and creates a new doll to challenge Malibu Stacy.

Choice quote:
"Millions of girls will grow up thinking that this is the right way to act, that they can never be more than vacuous ninnies whose only goal is to look pretty, land a rich husband, and spend all day on the phone with their equally vacuous friends talking about how damn terrific it is to look pretty and have a rich husband!"

The Secret War of Lisa Simpson - S8 E25

Bart gets sent to a military academy after testing megaphones at the Springfield Police Department and while dropping him off, Lisa falls in love. She feels that she isn't challened at school, Lisa demands to stay. Lisa spends her time there dealing withe the issues that come with being the only girl in the school.

Choice Quote:
"If only I were in Springfield, all my friends would be cheering me on... oh, God, I'm delirious."

Summer of 4 ft 2 -    S7 E25

Staying at the Flander's beach house, Lisa gets a new chance at being cool. To her, and Bart's, surprise, it works.

Choice quote:
"Okay okay okay, not your fault. It's a bird thing. You dont control the birds. You will some day, but not now"

Lisa the Vegetarian - S7 E5

After meeting a very cute sheep at Storytime Village, Lisa decides to stop eating meat. Ready to finally cave into the world's pressure to eat meat, Lisa finds the motivation to stay a vegetarian with the help of Apu and Paul and Linda McCartney.

Choice quote:
"My family just doesn't understand my new found vegetarianism. Compared to them, the public schools are a haven of enlightenment."

Lisa on Ice - S6 E8

After failing gym, Lisa has to join an afterschool sports team. Realizing she has a natural talent at goalkeeping, Lisa and Bart join rival teams and in turn turn into rivals themselves.

Choice quote:
"You mean those leagues where parents push their kids into vicious competition to compensate for their own failed dreams of glory?"

WARNING

THIS POST IS NOTHING BUT SPOILERS, AS YOU MAY HAVE GLEANED FROM THE TITLE

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN INFINITY WAR YET, HURRY UP. AND DON'T CLICK THE SPOILER CUT BELOW. TY.

As most of us now know, directors Joe and Anthony Russo kept mostly true to the "Infinity Gauntlet" comic storyline in "Avengers: Infinity War," and the movie ended with everyone's favorite magenta Darkseid ripoff, Thanos, snapping his fingers and extinguishing exactly half the life from the universe. Does this apply to plants and algae and stuff, or just humanoids? What about tentacle monsters or dolphins? Well-trained crows? Just don't give it too much thought, okay, because the point is that he actually killed FEWER Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy than he did in the comic, where he essentially wiped them all out (along with the X-Men... how rude!).

Anyway, James Gunn recently revealed what Groot, a victim of the "snap," was actually saying as he turned to dust, and the results were so heartbreaking that our team of experts decided to chronicle all the last words of the Guardvengiers at the hands hand of Thanos's omnipotence. (Note: heroes killed by Thanos earlier in the movie "the old-fashioned way," through violence instead of magic gloves, will have their own section.)

Dusted, in alphabetical order:

1. James "Bucky" Barnes/White Wolf: "Steve?"
2. T'Challa/Black Panther: "Up, General, up. This is no place to die."
3. Drax the Destroyer: "Quill!"
4. Groot (translated): "Dad?"
5. Maria Hill: "Nick."
6. Mantis: "Something's happening..."
7. Nick Fury: "Oh, no. Motherfu-"
8. Peter Quill/Star-Lord: "Oh, man."
9. Peter Parker/Spider-Man: "I don't know what's happening. I don't want to go. Please, sir, I don't want to go! I'm sorry."
10. Sam Wilson/Falcon: "We have a Vision situation here!"
11. Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff: "No!"
12. Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange: "Tony. There was no other way."

Busted, in alphabetical order:

13. Gamora (physical form, thrown off big cliff): "No. This isn't love! No!"
13a. Gamora (soul form, trapped in soul stone): "What did it cost?"
14. Heimdall (stabbed): "Allfathers, let the Dark Magic flow through me one last time."
15. Loki (strangled): "You... will never be... a god."
16. Vision (brain ripped out of head): "I love you."

Filmmaker Anna Biller of "The Love Witch" attacked online for calling out misogyny in slasher films

$

Filmmaker Anna Biller who delivered the amazing "The Love Witch" is receiving a lot of hate on Twitter after expressing her frustrations with how women are portrayed in horror films. It started with a tweet alluding to her frustration with the notion of the "final girl" and how its a trope designed to allow men to relieve male voyeuristic guilt after watching numerous women mutilated before the final girl arrives.

After explaining her views on Twitter, she continued to be attacked by both women and men so she elaborated further. OP note: some female contributors wrote articles on popular sites disagreeing with her views after her tweets.

Men, of course, wouldn't let this go and continued to tweet her while Anna had some interesting ideas for a horror film.

The tweets continued for a while before Anna Tweeted the below which OP believes is her trying to get the attacks off her twitter.

Do you think horror films can be empowering for Women? Should the "final girl" trope end?

What happens: Lionel gets dragged from one Pride party to the next, but struggles to feel at ease - until he meets Wesley.

gabe

Volume 2, Chapter VIII

Quote: "You're so full of shit, Gabe. You think you're coming at this from some objective, journalistic place and you're not."
What happens: Sam and Gabe have a heated discussion about the alt-right scene and white allyship to black causes. Gabe views Sam as partly responsible for the rising racial tensions.

sorbet

Volume 2, Chapter VII

Quote:"I've led you to water, but do not drink. People pee in fountains. You, specifically."
What happens: Troy takes drugs and embarks on a quest to find his path in life, which ends with him with talking to the surprisingly wise Sorbet.

dean

Volume 2, Chapter X

Quote:"My brother got me a job on the force. Watch your speed, Walter."
What happens: Dean Fairbanks finally manages to fire the security guard who drew a gun on Reggie. The guard is unfazed, however, as he has just been hired by the police - turning Fairbanks's victory into a chilling defeat.

Volume 2, Chapter VI

Quote:"Why?"
What happens: Lionel figures out the identity of AltIvyW.

Volume 2, Chapter X

Quote:"Well, uh, you'll like at least the start of my speech."
What happens: Right-wing pundit Rikki Carter doesn't get quite the reception at Winchester that she expected.

What's not so great?

  • The writers mistakenly assume that college kids use an abundance of abbreviations, which obvi makes for some cringe-worthy dialogue.

  • The canted angle is overly utilized in some episodes, which diminishes its effect and feels grating.

  • Sam and Gabe work best separately, and any moment of them rekindling their feelings seems unnecessary and stale.

  • While the episode about the death of Sam's father is well shot, it's also the most disconnected from all other episodes. At a moment where the narrative should pick up steam, the viewer is taken away from Winchester and the larger ensemble cast.

  • Troy's affair with the professor - and the subsequent blackmailing - came out of nowhere and went nowhere.

ONTD Original: 10 Rap Songs Saved By Female Hooks

𝙾𝙽𝚃𝙳 𝙾𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕:

𝟷𝟶 𝚁𝚊𝚙 𝚂𝚘𝚗𝚐𝚜 𝚂𝚊𝚟𝚎𝚍 𝙱𝚢 𝙵𝚎𝚖𝚊𝚕𝚎 𝙷𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜

The dynamic of a rap/pop collaboration was pioneered by the legendary Mariah Carey with her iconic "Fantasy" remix with O.D.B. Since then, it became a whole marketing thing in hopes for artists to 'cross-over' to certain genres.
🎤💋
No shade to all the rappers but we just want to skip to the good bit.mp3 to our divas.
Here are 10 songs where the female features take the lead and make the song.

10. Eminem ft. Rihanna - "Love The Way You Lie"

- Rih's parts were a breather from all the loud angry white rapping from M&M
- Honorable mentions: T.I's "Live Your Life", Jay-Z/K*nye's "Run This Town", K*nye's "All of The Lights", Wale's "Bad (Remix)"
"Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie"

9. Wale ft. Lady Gaga - "Chillin"

- No that isn't M.I.A. on the hook
- Gags had her other pop feature chance to be on "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" by Kendrick Lamar but apparently was too 'gay' to be on a song like that at the time.
"Get 'em all, get 'em all, pack it all up
Stack up your funds like a million bucks
Across that pond, they all know us
International, whoa
Driving my car to a foreign place
Lookin' at me, now they my face
We won it all now, we got it all yuuus
Look at that, look at how they lookin' at us"

8. Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson - "The Way I Are"

- MissKerriedBaby did THAT in so many songs in the mid to late '00s.
- Saved this song from lines like "listen baby girl, I ain't got a motorboat but I can float your boat"
"Oh, baby, it's alright now, you ain't gotta flaunt for me
If we go and touch, you can still touch my love, it's free
We can work without the perks just you and me
Thug it out 'til we get it right

Baby if you strip, you can get a tip
'Cause I like you just the way you are"

7. Lil' Flip ft. Lea - "Sunshine"
- These two one hit wonders made THE song of summer '04.
- Idk who this Lea girl is but she really made an Ashanti attempt with this.
"Sunshine
I can call you my baby boy
You can call me your baby girl
Maybe we can spend some time (some time)

I can be your sunshine"

6. Fabolous ft. Tamia - "So Into You"
- Some babies didn't know Tamia had the og song "So Into You" when this song was out. Was this too soon to be a throwback sample? Nostalgic either way.
- Apparently Ashanti recorded a version where she sung the hook, but couldn't shoot the vid so Tamia (rightfully) stepped in
"I really like
What you've done to me
I can't really explain it
I'm so into you"

5. Field Mob ft. Ciara - "So What"
- A ride or die anthem. I needed a solo version of this at the time
- Cici lowkey served Aaliyah looks in the bball court scenes
"Some people don't like it
Cause you hang out in the street
But you my boyfriend
You've always been here for me

I love the #thug in ya
No matter what people think
I'm gon' be here for ya
And I don't care what they say"

4. Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland - "Dilemma"
- The Dilemma was that she was waiting on a reply via excel
"No matter what I do
All I think about is you
Even when I'm with my boo
Boy, you know I'm crazy over you"

3. Twista ft. Mariah Carey - "So Lonely"
- Mariah knew this #UNDERRATED song was fire when she made "One and Only Part 2" where she added another verse to the the intro of the song. There was a whole other sequel with "One and Only" on her Emancipation album (which was not as good).
- Honorable mention: Busta Rhymes'"I Know What You Want"
"I wish that we could
Blow out the speakers
Over and over
To them Jodeci cuts
"Forever your lady"
You act right then maybe

Ain't nothing to talk about
Put the music loud
So they won't hear me say

Ah-ha ha ah!
Come and be my one and only
Tired of being so lonely, come hold me

Ah-ha ha ah!
I wanna wrap myself around you, whenever you want to
Come make me say
Ah-ha ha ah!
Come be my one & only
Tired of being so lonely, console me
Ah-ha ha ah!
I wanna #wrap myself #around you, whenever you want to
Come make me #say

So just show a girl what it do (what it do)
After this boy, I'm promising you
You got my #body#lit#up like the #moon
Way too persuasive I can't take it I'm so caught up in yOOoouuuuu"

2. Fat Joe ft. Ashanti - "What's Luv?"
- Ashanti, THE early 2000's hook QUEEN
- Honorable mentions: all of her other Ja Rule features
"When I look in your eyes there's no stoppin' me
I want the Don Joey Crack on top of me
Don't want your #stacks
Just break my #back
Gonna cut you no #slack
'Cause I'm on it like #that

Come oooooooooon
And put it ooooOooooon meeeeeeeee
On meeeEEeeEEee"

1. Diddy ft. Christina Aguilera - "Tell Me"
- This was a real #change during the B2B era. *Xtina voice* "The hair is straighter... no red lips". Legend SNAPPEDt... Diddy was there to wear it down balance it out.
- Honorable mention: T.I's "Castle Walls"
"Tell me
What you thinkin about when got me waiting patiently
Usually I don't have to wait for nobody
But there's somethin bout you that really got me feelin weak
And I'm tryin to find the words to speak

Boy I got my eyes on you
Tell me what you wanna do
I can picture you in my room
Until the mornin'
I don't even know your name
Boy I need to know your name
I'm hopin that you feel the same
Tell me if you want it

I know you're gonna like it (I know)
So tell me how you want it (Tell me)
And you don't have to fight it (You don't)
Cause baby you're invited (Baby)
I know you're gonna like it (I know)
So tell me how you want it (Tell me)
And you don't have to fight it (You don't)
Cause baby you're invited (Baby)"

ONTD Original: Musicians who got into acting

$
0
0
For many musicians, once they've conquered the music world Hollywood comes calling. This results in varying levels of success. Some just do it once because a particular role was perfect for them, some show that they actually can act, and some never get it quite right. There have been performances that garner Oscars and others that become punchlines. This post is dedicated to those musicians who swapped the stage for the screen.

This isn't comprehensive by any means to feel free to include your own favorites in the comments! Also there are a few, like Disney/Nick kids who got their starts on TV shows, that I'm not including because it's not really surprising that they've gone back into acting.

Lead singer of Bush and Gwen Stefani's ex Gavin Rosdale started out with small roles in Zoolander and Little Black Book, but really broke out as an actor in the 2004 film Constantine starring Keanu Reeves. He's had a few roles since, mostly on TV, but nothing major.

Before her tragic death, Aaliyah was becoming quite an actress. She starred in Romeo Must Die, had finished filming Queen of the Damned (although her brother had to finish some of the overdubs), and was set to star in Honey as the title character, who was instead played by Jessica Alba.

This video quality is bad, but has bonus DMX!

Beyoncé is rumored to have a picture of an Oscar in front of her treadmill as motivation. Whether that's true or not she's certainly given it the old college try with acting. Beginning in 2001 with Carmen: A Hip Hopera, making her way into comedies with Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Pink Panther, being nominated for a Golden Globe for Dreamgirls, and now voicing Nala in Disney's live-action version of The Lion King, she's no stranger to the screen.

Although she was technically billed as a supporting actress, Jennifer Hudson was the breakout star of Dreamgirls. She won a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie White. She's had minor roles since then in both movies and on TV.

I know "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" is the quintessential song from the part but I love this one.

When you look like a creep you might as well play one on TV, and Marilyn Manson has put his looks and personality to good use by playing weirdos. He had a recurring role on Sons of Anarchy as an imprisoned leader of the Aryan Brotherhood where he got to have swastika tattoos and say the n word.

This was never a hit and even my old ass didn't remember it from 1992, but I'm including it just because the trailer is so awesome. Mick Jagger plays a mercenary (lol) in the dystopian hellhole of 2009.

Honorable mentions for cameos:

Anthony Kiedis as an asshole surfer in Point Bread

Ric Ocasek in Hairspray (which also starred Sonny Bono, Debbie Harry and Vitamin C)

Also the whole reason for this post is that Kevin Ray, bass player for Walk the Moon, will be guesting on Elementary on Monday night. Kevin recently moved from Indianapolis to LA, so I wouldn't be shocked if he does more acting in the future. Here's a preview of his scene that I can't get to embed, but check it out!

Time for Tea: The British Royal Family's Least-Classy Moments (ONTD Original)

$
0
0

With the British tabloids intent on parading Meghan Markle's numerous embarrassing relatives across their front pages, I thought we might visit some of the royal family's own less-than-highbrow moments through the years.

I have only included incidents involving currently-living members of the royal family, and I've rated these scandals on a scale of one to four Shocked Queens*:

1963: The Queen's first cousin, Princess Alexandra, is caught by a freelance photographer getting royally plowed up against a fence in a field by her new husband.
The Palace is shocked at the audacity of the photographer to not only take pictures, but try to sell them to the tabloids; they promptly get an injunction to stop the publication of the photos. The photographer quietly slinks off to a new life in America.

1984: The Queen's son-in-law, Mark Phillips, cheats on his wife, Princess Anne, in a one-night stand with an art teacher that results in the birth of a daughter. Phillips and Princess Anne separate not long after. While they are separated (but still married), Anne begins a relationship with a member of her mother's household staff, equerry Timothy Laurence. She marries him in 1992.

1985: Princess Michael (known as "Princess Pushy" to the tabloids and privately called "Our Val" - a reference to the strident Valkyries of Norse myth - by the Queen) is married to the Queen's first cousin, Prince Michael of Kent. She is caught by paparazzi donning a red wig to sneak in and out of the London home of her lover, Texas oilman John Ward Hunt (amid suspicions that someone in the Palace tipped the paps off). This comes just a year after the embarrassing revelation that the Princess' father had been a Nazi SS officer during WWII. Nor does the Princess' husband remain faithful: in 2006, American artist Lucy Weber publicly claims to have carried on an eight-year-affair with Prince Michael.

1986: During a state visit to China, the Queen's husband Prince Philip calls Beijing "ghastly" and tells a group of British students studying there: "If you stay here much longer you will all be slitty-eyed". While visiting a hospital in 1999, he says a fuse box is so crude that "it looks as though it was put in by an Indian".In 2002, he asks a Scottish driving instructor, "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test?" and the same year, asks a group of indigenous Australians if they "still throw spears at each other?"

1992: Princess Alexandra's daughter, Lady Marina Ogilvy, poses for a fetish magazine wearing a rubber suit, a crown and surrounded by corgis (the Queen's favorite dog breed). By the next year, Marina is pregnant out of wedlock and sells her story to a tabloid: she says her father is a drunk and her "snarling" mother is cold, and they pressured her to get an abortion. Lady Marina later marries the baby's father but by the early 2000s is divorced and living on welfare. She has finally reconciled with her mother and the royals in the past couple of years, however.

1992: Audiotapes from 1989 of Princess Diana exchanging sweet nothings over the phone with her reported lover, James Gilbey, are released by a tabloid. He tells her he loves her and calls her "Squidgy" 53 times, while she expresses a fear that she might be pregnant.

Not to be outdone, Prince Charles is caught three months later in his own phone-wiretapping scandal telling his mistress (now his wife) Camilla Parker-Bowles that he wishes he could be her tampon.

Before the end of the year, the couple officially separates. They divorce in 1996, only one year before Diana's death in a Paris car crash.

1992: Sarah Ferguson ("Fergie"), having only just separated from the Queen's son Prince Andrew but still married, is photographed sunbathing topless while her American boyfriend, John Bryan, fondles and kisses her toes as her two young daughters with Andrew look on.

2004: Princess Michael, while visiting New York City, reportedly tells a group of noisy African-American diners to "go back to the colonies". She claims that she actually told them they should "remember the colonies" and assures the media that she couldn't possibly be a racist because she once visited Africa and just loved the "adorable" people there, and also she once dyed her hair black and tried to pretend she was a "half-caste African" herself. So there.

2008: Andrew and Fergie's 18-year-old daughter, Princess Eugenie, is found dancing naked on the lawn of her boarding school with other girls.

2010: Fergie is caught in a sting operation by the tabloid News of the World, offering to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew and the royal family to an undercover reporter posing as an Indian businessman, in exchange for £500,000. She later claims she was drunk, but her former in-laws have had it and although Prince Andrew still supports her (even letting her live in a cottage on his estate for years when she was broke), she is excluded from most royal gatherings.

2011: Prince Andrew is caught up in his own scandal when a former "sex slave" of his friend, American tycoon (and now-convicted sex offender) Jeffrey Epstein, alleges that Epstein ordered her to have sex with the prince several times when she was only 16. The Palace denies it, but photos of Andrew with his arm around the underage girl don't help.

2017: Princess Michael wears a "blackamoor" brooch (blackamoor imagery typically depicts people of African origin in subservient, exoticized forms) to meet Meghan Markle (the first person of known African descent to marry into the British royal family) for the first time.

I've saved the scandals of Ms. Markle's intended himself, Prince Harry, for last:

2002: 17-year-old Prince Harry is sent to rehab for one whole day so he can learn about the evils of weed after he admits to his father that he has tried it.

2005: Photos of Harry, now 20, dressed as a Nazi soldier at a costume party are splashed all over the front pages of the tabloids. The Palace issues an apology and Prince Charles reportedly makes Harry visit the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz to get some perspective.

2012: Tabloids get ahold of photos of Harry completely naked (but covering the royal jewels with his hands) while playing a game of strip billiards in Las Vegas with a similarly-nude young woman. He later says “At the end of the day I probably let myself down, I let my family down, I let other people down. But it was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It’s a simple case of that.”

What with Girls by those not that big but sooo talented artists feat. Cardi B being a disappointment on multiple levels, let's jam to some legit wlw pop tunes.

PART 1. THE EXPLICIT

Epic video, great song, the emergence of a new celeb couple we're not even worthy of.

Tegan and Sara went full pop with their last two albums but have kept their trademark heart on sleeve lyrics.

A god damn banger about crushing on everyone around you

Marit is str8 but this song, written for Pride in 2009, is an excellent example of her trademark mini pop operas.

Lesbian Jesus has been unfavd ever since Rita stans went spelunking through her social media and dug up anti-black tweets, hopefully she'll address it soon and also release a vid for this bop

Odd Future alum Syd tha Kyd uses her best seductive croon to make us ha girl

PART 2. THE AMBIGUOUS

The sweet friends-to-lovers lyrics and bizarrely effective Spice/TLC crossover made this a Xena fanvid fave back in the day.

Everyone thought for sure after this love song professing a taste for the cherry Demi would be the latest pop girl to come out as bi but that went nowhere

Charli chants "I just wanna get high with my best friend, kiss her on my tongue just like I'm your boyfriend" over a hazy Art of Noise beat and it comes across about a million times more sincere than her Girls verse

A deliberately unspecific and very pure lyric which could be about a lover or best friend -the effervescent affection is undeniable.

ONTD Original: Ranveer Singh and his fake image

$
0
0

From the outset, Ranveer Singh (Bhavnani) is quirky,  high energy (dancing in the middle of busy Mumbai road in Krissh costume) wears the most random clothes etc etc etc. Truly proving that Ranveer does not give a fuck. After all, he’s here to break the barriers of what’s considered normal. (He wore a skirt!!!111) He is different.

One of the biggest “normal” in Bollywood is nepotism. To succeed in this industry, you need to have some solid familial connections. No matter how poor actor you are, the goodwill of your family will provide you with innumerable films to ruin. (Abhishek Bachchan, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor entire careers exist due to this fact.) So, in an industry where nepotism and familial connections help you succeed Ranveer would promote that he was a complete outsider to Bollywood.  Why would he do this? Because he was building his image to be the next Shah Rukh Khan.
At first, he would completely disregard the fact he was related to Anil and Sonam Kapoor’s family. When Ranveer was asked about this connection, he would assert that the Kapoors did not help him throughout his career, and the family would only come into contact during the filming of Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) where both Anil and Ranveer were cast.

(Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Ranveer Singh)
(Ranveer Singh at Sonam Kapoor's birthday party)
Ranveer Singh claims he has no connections to the industry whatsoever, that he one day gate-crashed a party with a friend at 16 where he met the director Shaad Ali (also at the time working for Yash Raj Films).  The director would eventually let Singh assist him on various adverts and films before making his debut.

Interestingly, on an episode with Koffee with Karan, Singh talks about his relationship with Arjun Kapoor (related to Sonam Kapoor through her father’s side) developed a friendship due to their love of dancing at parties during sleazy Hindi songs. Ranveer would say they developed this friendship during their debut years ( both having debuted at Yash Raj Films around the same year) however, Arjun Kapoor clarifies that they’ve been partying way longer than this before he is cut off.

Also, during Vogue BFF’s Zoya Akthar describes meeting Ranveer at a mutual friend’s party, Ranveer exclaims, “That’s 15 years ago, bro!” 15 years puts this event at 2001 – when he was 16 years old.

Singh also shared on ‘No Filter Neha’ that his girlfriend ditched him for Aditya Roy Kapur, “Ya, he was like every girl’s fantasy in junior college and the girl that I was crazy about that time who is now married with a kid, so she, I was really like, this is like, I was mad about her. It was a good 4-5 years that I was crazy over her. And then she finally broke up with me. It was in order to move onto a certain Aditya Roy Kapur.

Again, placing Ranveer at the age of 16 when he met Zoya Akthar and Shaad Ali and again, Aditya Roy Kapur a nepotism kid, part of the industry that Ranveer claims he has no connections to. Who was the girlfriend? Ahana Deol, the daughter of superstars Dharmendra and Hema Malini, you guessed it, within the Hindi Industry!

It’s not only enough for Ranveer to claim he’s a total outsider he also has to showcase how poor he is. His father Jagit Bhavani is a real estate mogul, rumoured billionaire, whose net worth has been mysteriously wiped off the internet. So Ranveer can make statements like,  “The other day I was cleaning my shoe closet, which has some 100 pairs now. It was a staggering sight. Dad walked past the room and he started crying. He said I remember once you had just two pairs – one for everyday wear and one while going out.”

In an interview with GQ India for their April issue, Singh revealed how he couldn't afford fashionable clothes and would wear second-hand clothing. He said, “When I was studying in Indiana, I couldn't afford a lot of fashionable clothes, and wore a lot of hand-me-downs. At any given point I'd have a pair of all-white Ice Cream sneakers, which I'd very religiously wipe with Clorox to get the stains out.”

Ranveer Singh said to Conde Naste Traveller, “We didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up. So, my parents would save up and save up for that one big summer holiday abroad; I remember going to Indonesia, Singapore, Italy, but most often it was the US – we had a lot of family there. And December was always Goa with my grandparents.”

Funnily enough, there is one interview that states that “Singh, who grew up in an affluent family in Khar, Mumbai, says they provide for everything, leaving his money untouched. “I have all the comfort that I need and it is mostly provided to me by my father and my family... Whatever I am making is pretty much there and ready to be invested.”

This is not the only part he’s exaggerated about his life. “You can check with the women, but I know that I’m the best boyfriend."  Ranveer Singh boasts in an interview in 2014, he would repeat this continuously over the next few years. In particular, he would brag about this in an episode of Koffee with Karan alongside contemporary, Ranbir Kapoor in 2017. If Ranveer had been spouting this for many years, why did this claim matter during this moment this most?

Simply because Ranveer Singh had built his image around being the opposite of being a ‘Ranbir Kapoor’. For those who don’t know Ranbir Kapoor, he is from the lineage of the so called “first family of Bollywood” a total insider, self-admitted cheater, (despite his denials) a playboy. He would date Deepika Padukone for a short while before he cheated on her. Thus, starting Deepika Padukone’s persisting ‘victim image’. This was Ranveer’s moment to remind the audience that he, Singh, was better than Kapoor.   A true visual comparison.

An episode of Koffee with Karan, where a ‘jury’ comment on the season’s iconic moments. (Credits: Buzzfeed India, 4th panel translation: “He’s saying so much about himself.”“He’s like no one saying this about me, so I’ll say it myself.”)

Ranveer Singh in 2012, within a week after he broke up with Anushka Sharma; would start releasing articles confirming his relationship with Deepika Padukone.

Ranveer & Deepika’s (or their shortened portmanteau: Deepveer) relationship would go on to become #relationshipgoals. A relationship beneficial for both as it became the perfect marketing strategy over the past few years.  A recent example of this in work would be Deepika's MET Gala appearance, where she failed to make an impact and instead had received criticism for not following the theme. Deepika would post a series of pictures on Instagram, the first justifying her look, the next few her actual look. She would also start a paid trend on Twitter India (reaching #2) "Deepika at MET".  When that failed to make an impact outside of a few PR articles; that night in the midst of partying at Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's wedding reception, Ranveer Singh would suddenly be caught on camera calling her and commenting on the MET pictures on Instagram.

Suddenly the narrative became how sweet Ranveer Singh was to spare a moment for his 'lady love' no matter how busy he was at a family function. Bringing back Deepika's MET Gala appearance and his perfect boyfriend façade to the forefront of the media’s attention.

Of course, Ranveer bragging about being the “perfect” boyfriend in what seems to be an average, mutually benefitting PR relationship is not in itself a problematic situation. Fake? Sure, but understandable. The problem with being the “perfect” boyfriend, like his struggler image, is that Ranveer slips up and reveals his misogyny underneath.  For example, in 2016, during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Ranveer himself admitted, “See the thing is, I am smarter than all the chicks I have met till date. Their EQ is much higher than mine, but IQ, I am yet to be taken by surprise.”

This is not the first time Ranveer has spoken in a demeaning manner about women, in his debut episode of Koffee with Karan he made the following comments about Kareena Kapoor

She used to come to Otters club, I was a kid at the time and I used to just look at her, and she ushered me into you know?” I went from child to boy.”

Kareena who at the time was cast for Ram Leela opposite him would drop out of the film, feeling uncomfortable by Singh’s comments. When asked about this, he would comment "Now I don’t feel that rush of excitement [for her]. My feelings have waned. (laughs) I’ve grown up. I was effusive about my admiration, but I didn’t do anything wrong. It came and bit me in the face. People really judge you." Effectively shifting the blame back to Kareena Kapoor.

(Also, note Otters club is a very exclusive club, of which many Indian celebrities are a part of)

Ranveer’s only gotten into hot water over his sexism once and that was during the Jack & Jones controversy.

It took actor Siddharth to call out the misogyny in the advert before it caught media attention.

It would take a few days before an “official statement” would be released where a “source” claimed that Ranveer was upset by the controversy. Ranveer Singh is mighty upset that his image took a severe beating after a Jack & Jones advertisement that showed him picking up a miniskirt-clad girl on his shoulders with the tagline ‘Take you work home’.

“Ranveer never ever thought endorsing a clothing brand would bring him disrepute. He is someone who is extremely image conscious and has deep respect for women. He is hurt that the tagline written by those who conceptualised the ad went terribly wrong. He has told the brand that it shouldn’t have happened and their writers should have been more careful with their words.”

Ranveer’s official apology would come nearly a week after Siddharth raised the issue: "It was important to give the brand the creative freedom while designing the campaign but I guess we got it wrong on one of those billboards. I am sorry this happened but it is a thing of past. We rectified it immediately by having the hoarding taken down as early as possible from over 30 cities overnight.”

Ranveer’s image is more important than his actual work, remember the barriers he was breaking by subverting the norm and wearing a skirt at the GQ Awards? When asked about it his fashion choices, said that he would never cross-dress as that is a bit too extreme. When he was reminded about the time when he had worn a skirt for an award show, he said, "Yeah but...That's like a man's skirt."

Recently, a blind was released:A leading fashion magazine thought it had an innovative cover in mind when it approached a young leading actor and a sprightly female star for its next issue. While the gorgeous pair does look lovely together, the male star had some misgivings. He wasn’t too happy to bephotographed with the leading lady because, er, she has just got married. He thought a photograph with her would affect his ‘young’ image. Tch, some men just refuse to grow up.

It’s not surprising that Ranveer has outdated thoughts about women, when he asked about feminism in 2017, Ranveer replied,“I believe in gender quality, so I feel like it’s lopsided being on the either side of the coin, you know? By being a ‘meninist’ and ‘feminist’, you’re essentially already submitting and subscribing to the fact that there’s an imbalance. Why won’t we just accept the equal status goal and move on?"

This image break-down, doesn't contain his unhealthy obession with sex, including his boasting that he lost his virginity at 12. I also didn't cover that racist, sexist,  homophobic, roast he did with All India Bakchod.

ONTD Original: Lesbian Artists to Check Out

$
0
0

We can all use some more lesbian music in the world (or at least I think so). If you're tired of Tegan and Sara, St. Vincent or Hayley Kiyoko, I thought I'd rec some gay women who I've been jamming to recently.

Ria Mae
Ria Mae is a Canadian pop singer from Halifax. As a teenager, she spent most of her time in her room writing songs and teaching herself guitar. In her music video for her single 'Gold', she portrayed a lesbian relationship. Ria has said she struggled with playing an alternate version of her sexuality in a music video, but after some consideration she changed her perspective: "I had this gut feeling, like, 'Shut up. It's good, and it's important.'"

Other song(s) to check out: Gold, Ooh Love, Girlfriend

King Princess
King Princess is only 19 and just released her debut single '1950' in February (Harry Styles tweeted out a lyric from the song, which gave it a little boost). The song is inspired by one of her favorite books, 1952's The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, which later became the film Carol, and draws parallels between hidden desire and lesbian love. King Princess is also the first artist signed to Mark Ronson's record label and her EP, Make My Bed, will be out June 15th.

Other song(s) to check out: Talia

Thao & the Get Down Stay Down
Thao Nguyen is the lead musician of the band Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. Her biggest influences are folk and country with bit of hip hop and punk. Thao is able to convey melancholy and gentleness with a good amount of playfulness in her music. She's collaborated with Joanne Newsom, Andrew Bird, and Mirah.

Music video directed by Dianna Agron
Other song(s) to check out: When We Swam, Meticulous Bird, Holy Roller

MUNA
MUNA definitely have a Haim vibe, but with a much more 80s power pop sound. Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin first met at the University of Southern California. They've been called a queer girl band since their first releases. After some hesitation about that, they've seen seemed to embrace that title.
Other song(s) to check out: Crying on the Bathroom Floor, Winterbreak, Everything

Torres
Torres is an alternative pop singer from Georgia. Her music is reminiscence of St. Vincent, Bjork, Fiona Apple and Brandi Carlile. Her most recent album Three Futures is about owning her sexuality and desire, this comes through with songs like Skim, Righteous Woman and To Be Given a Body. She's said about the record that she wanted it to be "unapologetically lustful, rather than being the object of desire."

Other song(s) to check out: Jealousy and I, Helen in the Woods

Marika Hackman
Marika Hackman is a singer-songwriter from England. Her alternative folk style is in a similar vein to Laura Marling. Her lyrics can be dark and melancholic, yet her songs are full of insights about living today as a gay woman. Her song 'My Love Cindy' is inspired by 'The L Word'. It started as an inside joke with her girlfriend about a character calling someone 'my lover Cindy'; "we thought 'my lover Cindy' was so funny. We decided it would be a really great band name." Marika is currently in a relationship with singer Amber Bain from the band The Japanese House.

Other song(s) to check out: Boyfriend, Time's Been Reckless, Ophelia

This is my first ONTD Original, I hope it's okay. Feel free to share your fave lesbian artists in the comments!
