ONTD Original: Best and Worst Christmas Songs Released in 2017

$
0
0
Mariah Carey's enduring Christmas classic, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," topped the charts this year after 23 years of ringing in the holidays. In an attempt to follow her record-breaking footsteps, many artists have released their own Christmas songs this year. However, not every artist can be so lucky to have a hit holiday tune like the Elusive Chanteuse.

Below, I've made a small roundup of the best and worst Christmas songs released in 2017 (according to me). Enjoy!

BEST:
Shania Twain and Nick Jonas - Say All You Want For Christmas

Shania Twain is involved. Need I say more?
The country inspired song makes for easy listening and their voices work well together. Will it become a replay-able classic like Mariah's? Probably not. But it's definitely one of the stronger contributions to Christmas music released this year.

WORST:
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton - You Make It Feel Like Christmas

They sound bad together and nobody wants to listen to Blake Shelton's caterwauling while opening presents. It just isn't enjoyable and is one of those songs that would drive you mad after more than one listen. They also released this way back in September, which is obnoxiously early.

BEST:
Kelly Clarkson - Christmas Eve

It's upbeat, it's fun, Kelly sounds great, and it's short and to the point (although pretty repetitive). Does it top her previous Christmas releases? No, but it's a solid Christmas track.

WORST:
Sia - Santa's Coming For Us

Without the lyric video, I would have no idea what she's even saying for half of this song. Her pronunciation gets so awkward at times that it sounds like she's singing, "Santa's coming for ush." Her vocals sound strained and it's hard to listen to. Plus the song is slightly unnerving as it sounds like a threat: QUICK, HIDE! HE'S COMING FOR US, ONTD!

BEST:
Hanson - Finally It's Christmas

"Finally it's Christmas, feels like we've been waiting all year!" While the verses might not draw you in right away, the chorus is a blast. It's a big, fun, Christmas song. Hanson are great (I don't care, fight me ONTD).

WORST:
Panic! At The Disco - Feels Like Christmas

The chorus is kind of nice but the rest of it is downright cacophonous.

BEST:
98° - Season Of Love

Despite my feelings of hatred for Nick Lachey, this song is an undeniable bop! They sound good, it's catchy as hell, and it's fun to sing. There's a music video for this track, but I thought I would spare you all having to sit through that (Merry Christmas from me to you!).

WORST:
Why Don't We - Kiss You This Christmas

Instantly forgettable and the song goes absolutely nowhere. It'll leave you asking, "that's it?" and, "what's the point of that?"

BEST:
Fantasia - What Are You Doing New Years Eve?

Finally! A smooth, jazzy Christmas tune courtesy of Fantasia that makes for a perfect song to listen to cuddled up next to a warm fire. The instrumentals set this song apart from the other more pop-oriented songs released this year and Fantasia's voice sounds lovely.

WORST:
August Burns Red - Last Christmas (cover)

It's just so bad...why? WHY?

Undecided:
Kaskade - This Christmas Night

It's not terrible, but it's kind of depressing. I think I'd be into it if it weren't a Christmas song.

ONTD Original™ - Christmas Edition: Make the Yueltide Gayer Pt. 3

$
0
0

Judy Garland's status as a gay icon is well-documented – her father and other significant people in her life were gay, for starters – but the rise of it is perhaps no better captured on screen than when she sung Somewhere Over the Rainbow in The Wizard of Oz. It's only fitting then, that five years later in 1944's Meet Me In St. Louis, Garland would sing the first-ever rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", including the lyric, "Make the yueltide gay".

Yes, that's right: everything you've ever loved has belonged to the gays, including your safe Christmas music. But when it comes to Christmas musicals and music, how much have things visually changed? What can you compare to"Make the yueltide gay" with actual gay Christmas music and videos today? Does anything immediately pop into your head?

In part one of this series, I focused on film. In part two, I focused on television and shorter works. For part three, the standards are going to be a bit different:

  1. With musical films, performances, and specials they have to don LGBTQ sensibility and/or have camp figures and icons in some way, if not be definitively gay.

  2. With Christmas music videos, they have to be from an LGBTQ performer or creator.

Each category will have ten entries in no particular order of favorability. How did I fare this time, and how much have things changed? Is there anything worth watching?
Musicals/Christmas Specials:

"Meet Me in St. Louis" is a classic MGM romantic musical comedy that focuses on four sisters (one of whom is the nonpareil Judy Garland) on the cusp of the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The film spotlights the sisters' education in the ways of the world, which includes, but isn't limited to, learning about life and love, courtesy of the prototypical boy next door. In the end, love -- accompanied by song, dance and period costumes, all in glorious Technicolor -- conquers all.

When "Merry Little Christmas" premiered for the first time in this scene, which was created for this movie, and Judy Garland sung the lyric "Make the yueltide gay" knowing all the friends of Dorothy who were out there, she invented gay allyship.

...want to start a vampire book series:

Now, his immortal brethren have decided David must return and leave his family in Miami. Instead, David vows to invoke a forbidden ritual to keep Jessica and his daughter with him forever. Harrowing, engrossing and skillfully rendered, My Soul to Keep traps Jessica between the desperation of immortals who want to rob her of her life and a husband who wants to rob her of her soul. ...want to read a fantasy story and feel like a kid again:
25817038Forest of Wonders / Linda Sue Park

Raffa Santana has always loved the mysterious Forest of Wonders. For a gifted young apothecary like him, every leaf has the potential to unleash a kind of magic. If only Raffa's cautious father would allow him to experiment freely, Raffa knows he could discover miracles.

When an injured bat crashes into Raffa's life, he invents a cure from a rare crimson vine that he finds deep in the forest. The powers of the vine are stronger than Raffa could have imagined. His remedy saves the animal but also transforms it into something much more than an ordinary bat, with far-reaching consequences. Raffa's experiments lead him away from home to the forbidding city of Gilden, where troubling discoveries make him question who he can trust . . . and whether exciting botanical inventions, including his own, might actually threaten the very creatures of the forest he wants to protect.

...want to read a collection of speculative short fiction:
23846151Falling in Love with Hominids / Nalo Hopkinson

Nalo Hopkinson (Brown Girl in the Ring, Skin Folk) has been widely hailed as a highly significant voice in Caribbean and American fiction. She has been dubbed “one of our most important writers,” (Junot Diaz), with “an imagination that most of us would kill for” (Los Angeles Times), and her work has been called “stunning,” (New York Times) “rich in voice, humor, and dazzling imagery” (Kirkus), and “simply triumphant” (Dorothy Allison).

Falling in Love with Hominids presents over a dozen years of Hopkinson’s new, uncollected fiction, much of which has been unavailable in print. Her singular, vivid tales, which mix the modern with Afro-Caribbean folklore, are occupied by creatures unpredictable and strange: chickens that breathe fire, adults who eat children, and spirits that haunt shopping malls.

...want to read a mystery thriller featuring LGBT characters:
31224423Blood on the Beach / Sarah N. Harvey

Eight teens are dropped off on a remote west-coast island for a week-long treatment program called INTRO (Into Nature to Renew Ourselves). The story is told by two of them: Alice, whose police-officer mother believes Alice might have a substance-abuse problem, and Caleb, who assaulted his abusive stepfather. They are joined by six other miscreants and three staff: a psychologist, a social worker and an ex-cop. On the first night, one of the girls disappears from her cabin. There is a panicked search of the island, but she is nowhere to be found. The adults seem oddly ineffectual in dealing with the crisis—and then the ex-cop gets sick and dies. The radio has been sabotaged, and there is no way to call for help. When the social worker also becomes ill, the kids decide to take matters into their own hands and track down the killer.

...want to read a moving piece of nonfiction:
8651250The Philosopher and the Wolf / Mark Rowlands

Mark Rowlands was a young philosophy professor, rootless and searching for life’s greater meaning. Shortly after arriving at the University of Alabama, he noticed a classified ad in the local paper advertising wolf cubs for sale, and decided he had to investigate, if only out of curiosity. It was love at first sight, and the bond that grew between philosopher and wolf reaffirms for us the incredible relationships that exist between man and animal.

When Mark welcomed his new companion, Brenin, into his home, but more than just an exotic pet, Brenin exerted an immense influence on Rowlands both as a person, and, strangely enough, as a philosopher, leading him to reevaluate his attitude toward love, happiness, nature, death, and the true meaning of companionship.

...want to read an actually good YA novel:
23281757Pointe / Brandy Colbert

Theo is better now.

She’s eating again, dating guys who are almost appropriate, and well on her way to becoming an elite ballet dancer. But when her oldest friend, Donovan, returns home after spending four long years with his kidnapper, Theo starts reliving memories about his abduction—and his abduct or.

Donovan isn’t talking about what happened, and even though Theo knows she didn’t do anything wrong, telling the truth would put everything she’s been living for at risk. But keeping quiet might be worse.

...want to read a romance and I almost guarantee you never heard of this author:
30427791The Viscountess Bequest / Sophy Hester

England and France, 1817: Henry Wenton, 6th Earl of Brentford, is the black sheep of the family and deplored by good society as a bon vivant and wastrel. Then a French relative by marriage, the Vicomte de Maligny, the victim of an eventually fatal accident, bequeaths him his title. Under one condition: He must marry the Vicomte’s young daughter, Florence. It appears to be an enticing offer to Henry, and he sets out for France. Instead of a helpless young woman in mourning, he finds there an independent-minded, radiant beauty. The 18-year-old fascinates him. She is sensuous and innocent at the same time. Florence also feels herself drawn to the Earl. However, his domineering manner and his experience with women frighten her – and yet awaken in her a desire for love…

...want to read a spectacular piece of Latin American fiction:
53413Hopscotch / Julio Cortázar

Horacio Oliveira is an Argentinian writer who lives in Paris with his mistress, La Maga, surrounded by a loose-knit circle of bohemian friends who call themselves "the Club." A child's death and La Maga's disappearance put an end to his life of empty pleasures and intellectual acrobatics, and prompt Oliveira to return to Buenos Aires, where he works by turns as a salesman, a keeper of a circus cat which can truly count, and an attendant in an insane asylum. Hopscotch is the dazzling, freewheeling account of Oliveira's astonishing adventures.

The book is highly influenced by Henry Miller’s reckless and relentless search for truth in post-decadent Paris and Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki’s modal teachings on Zen Buddhism.

Cortázar's employment of interior monologue, punning, slang, and his use of different languages is reminiscent of Modernist writers like Joyce, although his main influences were Surrealism and the French New Novel, as well as the "riffing" aesthetic of jazz and New Wave Cinema.

OP NOTE:This is my favorite book ever!

Throughout the beginning of her career (which happened to be during a very defining time in her life), Selena Gomez was praised by Disney big shots for her talent and transparency that fans fell in love with.

Wizards of Waverly Place, as well as a lot of her straight-to-DVD Disney films, gave the Disney Channel some of their most well-received pieces of work at the time. Which isn't saying much, but what did she know at 14/15 years old? She was praised for her impressive comedic timing on a multi-camera set, her good work ethic, and having a charm that clicked into what parents trusted and what kids wanted to see.

But when it was time for her to grow up, none of that applied anymore. The things that made her great at Disney were suddenly irrelevant as an adult star, and she saw a rapid shift.

In the past, you could hit play on any interview that featured this new star and hear her talk about "what really matters". Translation: the work she did for UNICEF, women being praised in the industry, being surrounded by people who keep her grounded, and the goals she had in film and music that didn't involve Disney.

She stressed these things even more so once she began dating Justin Bieber, who exposed her to a new audience. One that didn't love her. And one that didn't focus on her acting or her talent or who she was as a good worker or whatever else Disney praised her for.

She told E! back in 2013 about her first paparazzi experience and how they affect her now: "I went to the beach with my family and - I'm a 15 year old in a bikini - and there were, like, seven guys. And then it just ruined my day. [...] It gives me anxiety. Yes [I noticed it get worse when Justin and I got together]. I'm sure you can actually see those pictures of me being way stressed out about it."

And the saddest quote of all, that she has said and tweaked throughout the years (but this one is taken from 2011):

"I don't want to be known for what I'm wearing and who I'm dating."

Sadly...................

this is exactly

what keeps her famous

lol

Let's go back to the beginning for a quick sec.

Selena had her first acting gig with Barney. Her mother Mandy (who had Selena at 16 years old) recalls the audition, "she starts critiquing everybody and their performance, and then I just kind of close my eyes and I'm like, 'oh, lord, she's gonna be an actress'" Our first example of Selena comparing herself to others. More on that later.

Mandy hustled for Selena in the industry, and she was put in a world where she was exposed to rejection very early on in her life, "[my mom] taught me how to handle rejection well," she tells an interviewer at 2012's Glamour Women of the Year. Sure.

She also revealed in her E! special that she tries very hard to make her mom proud, "I think still, to this day, I don't feel like I'm good enough for my mom."

To which Mandy replies, in tears, "I don't know why she would feel that way. She was given an opportunity to be on the Disney Channel and that was a dream of hers. So how, as a parent, can you say "oh, well, it doesn't work out for me." You know? You have to support it. And I don't really expect anything from her. I don't expect for her to be perfect. She makes me really proud and she's a great kid."

That's sweet and weirdly emotional in a dark way.

When Selena's mom and dad split up, she says she didn't understand it. Her cousin, Priscilla Deleon, says (crying), "I remember Selena was always like, "Priscilla, why can't my parents be like yours?" and it was really hard to answer that."

Comparing herself to others is a theme that's proven to be consistent with Selena Gomez. Would that have been something she could have grown out of or learned from? Sure, yet who's to say? But perhaps this is a reference to the theory mentioned in the title: that child stars stay mentally stuck in what they were like during the height of their fame.

Later on down the road, Selena flew to Hollywood for an audition for a potential Lizzie McGuire spin-off show called 'Stevie Sanchez'

"I went over my script a thousand times on the plane. I remember thinking that was a sign because I was so obsessed with [Lizzie McGuire]. I was like, "this is destiny! I have to have this." I read the script to them. It was horrible. It's probably one of my worst auditions. And they were like, "okay, thank you!" And... I was done, I went to the lobby and I just cried and I just felt like I didn't get it. I was shy. I probably wasn't as vibrant as the other girls."

Selena got the part. A year later, however, she also got the news that the show didn't pick up. But President and Chief Creative Officer for Disney Channels Worldwide, Gary Marsh, didn't give up on her. She made her Disney Channel debut on 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody', where she also had her first kiss "in front of an audience, in front of four cameras, in front of my mom."

With this, she showed she was able to handle the set of a sitcom, and Disney would once again fly her back to Hollywood, from Texas. This time, it was for two pilots. "I remember she was like, "I was the first Latina to book two pilots for Disney at the same time," and she was really proud about that," says her cousin Priscilla.

She got the part of Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place, so she packed her bags and moved to Hollywood. She "hated the city", missed her family so much she "cried for 3 months", but ultimately decided to tough it all out. "I don't realize how much I have going on until I have those moments where I break down, because it's so much," she says in 2011.

Gary Marsh: "We offered her the lead in one of our next musicals, 'Camp Rock'. And she did something that was... at the time, frustrating for us, but ultimately genius: she said, "no." [...] At the time, I thought, "you are our star, I want to put you on the next pedestal and launch you," and she was even smarter than I was in that case."

'Wizards' ended up winning an Emmy, and at 16, Selena was ready to get started on her music career.

Abbey Konowich: "She wanted to differentiate herself from the other girls in the market place and she wanted to have a band. In fact, originally, she didn't even want to use her own name."

Selena was booming. She was the lead on an award-winning show under one of the largest corporations, her first album exceeded Disney's expectations, and amidst all of Miley Cyrus' scandals and "wild" ways, she was the "honest" one. The "transparent" one. And the way she would subtly talk down on herself was viewed as a super star just being humble. She was praised as the anti-Miley, which quickly became a massive part of her brand.

This is something that Selena still clings on to, and while being the 'anti-Miley' is no longer necessarily what it is, it definitely evolved from that... into whatever the hell it is now. A girl trapped in what sells to the conservatives and the patriarchy that has even the most liberal of minds in the palms of its claws? Probably.

"I never really said ' I wanna be a role model', but then when it happened, I was so down for it. Once I realized that - I had a little girl come up to you and say she wants to be just like you [sic]? It was beautiful, and I accept it. I'm human. I'm not perfect. And I make mistakes all the time. But I guess my job is to keep those mistakes to myself and just try to be the best I can be for those kids."

Selena's music was doing pretty well, but she wanted to focus more on her acting. She wanted to be in movies that weren't attached to Disney and she wanted to become a serious actress.

"I just don't feel like I've accomplished enough in film. So I just genuinely need to take a break from [music]."

During an interview after Selena Gomez' first musical gig in London, she was asked where her heart is in terms of acting vs. singing, "I mean, if I had to choose one, I suppose it would be acting."

It didn't work out for her. Nobody wanted to see her in movies because her style of acting didn't translate well into leading roles for serious films. Producers were pushing her to do more music, despite most likely being aware of her lack of skills in the singing department.

Probably a massive slap of discouragement in the face for this one. How do you go from being praised by Disney to being rejected by anyone else as you're trying to grow out of Disney the way Disney is growing out of you?

Selena sucked it up and toughed it out once again, releasing album after album, but not quite giving up on her acting dreams. In case you didn't already know: Selena Gomez' opportunistic traits have been shining a lot lately as she accepts a role in a Woody Allen film amidst the flooding of news regarding sexual harassment in Hollywood.

But she isn't new to trying to have her cake and eat it too. She said during a press conference for Spring Breakers, "I think it was right for me. You know, I do everything for my younger fans, I do everything for my fans, and this was... more for me, in a way."

Fair. But to expect American audiences to view her as a woman growing up from the pure Disney star brand was just... not really something American audiences do.

"I don't really know what the right way to make that transition is, I'm just trying to do the best I can and I just - knock on wood - hope to just continue to do it well."

Parents and long-time fans alike compared her accepting the role in Spring Breakers (where she drinks and smokes on film) as a scandalous Miley move or another Britney breaking out from her good girl image. There were even rumours of Selena Gomez having break downs on set, slowly becoming a mess.

Selena Gomez, who was beginning to have conflicts in her relationship with Justflop Bieber around the time of Spring Breakers' release, didn't handle the shaming and the rumours well.

In fact, she seems to spiral within that very cycle; leave the spoiled white man, handle the bad stuff on her own, go back to the spoiled white man, repeat. And with her focus being directed more towards what other people think - what her fans think - she forgets herself.

"I would remind the younger version of me that she's doing a really great job. Cause I think she's gonna need to hear that sometimes." -Selena Gomez, Nov. 2017

ONTD Original: All of Weinstein's Men

Behind every abusive asshole is a support system that enables such behavior. Harvey Weinstein has had much support in the industry for decades. From the agents who set up meetings to tabloid journalists who killed stories about Weinstein in exchange for stories. This post highlights those who knew about the allegations and those who supported Harvey.

Bob Weinstein & Co

The Weinstein Company was well aware of Harvey's misconduct and the allegations against him. The New York Times reported that Bob Weinstein was involved in at least three settlements dating back to 1990. Ronan Farrow also reported that Weinstein PERSONALLY paid off two settlements against his brother. Bob Weinstein has also been accused of sexual harassment by Amanda Segel, a TV producer. Many of the Harvey loyalists on the board of directors quit after the allegations surfaced. Dirk Ziff, Paul Tudor Jones, and Tim Sarnoff did not sign off on the press release released by the board of directors at the time of the allegations. Harvey's loyalists caped for Harvey in every way despite Harvey misusing company funds. Ziff, Jones, and Sarnoff have given no reason for why they left the board of directors.

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan dated from 2006-2009. Rodriguez was well aware of what happened with Rose before they were made public. Despite knowing that Weinstein allegedly raped McGowan, he still collaborated with Weinstein on a number of projects. Rodriguez stated that he didnt want to jeopardize any legal settlements she had with Weinstein. He also claims that he casted her in Grindhouse, Weinstein production, as a "fuck you" to Weinstein.

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is one of the few men who admitted to knowing about Harvey's behavior and not doing more than he did. He said there was more to it than just rumors. He knew that Weinstein did a couple of these things. Mira Sorvino, Tarantino's girlfriend at one point, told Tarantino about the allegations when they first occurred. He also heard from another actress who had the same story and was aware of McGowan's settlement with Weinstein. Tarantio still continued to make films with Weinstein which he now regrets. He dismissed what Sorvino initially told him because he thought Weinstein had a "particular" interest in her and thought he would leave her alone since Tarantino was dating her.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt was dating Gwyneth Paltrow at the time when she was sexually harassed by Weinstein. Pitt confronted Weinstein about it at a party and threatened to beat him up (lol). Pitt confirmed the incident to the NYT. Angelina Jolie, his ex-wife, has also accused Weinstein of sexual harassment. Brad Pitt still chose to work with the producer on Inglorious Basterds and Killing Them Softly.

Ben Affleck

One of the best things in 2017 was the continued demise of Ben Affleck. Ben's predatory actions were covered in a previous post. Ben may play dumb but it is clear he knew about Weinstein's actions on two separate occasions. When the news first broke, Ben claimed he didn't know about Weinstein at all and Rose McGowan called him out on twitter for it. McGowan accused Weinstein of rape and says that she told Ben Affleck about the incident. Rose claims that Ben said "I told him to stop doing that" when she told him about the assault. Gwyneth Paltrow also accused Harvey of harassment and Affleck was aware of that incident as well.

Matt Damon

Matt Damon admitted that both him and Affleck were aware of Paltrow's allegations against Harvey because Ben was the one who told him about it. Damon called Harvey an asshole but says that he's never witnessed such behavior. Sharon Waxman, founder of The Wrap, claimed that she investigated such allegations against Weinstein back when she was a reporter for NYT in 2004. Waxman stated that the piece was cut from the paper due to TWC presence as an advertiser for the newspaper and the meddling of Russell Crowe and Matt Damon. She alleges that Damon and Crowe called her directly to refute the claims. Damon denied the claims and Waxman later endorsed his comments.

CAA and others
At least 8 agents from CAA were aware that Weinstein had threatened female clients or sexually harassed them. Despite knowing all of this, the agency still worked with Weinstein and arranged meetings for female clients with him. Courtney Love stated that she was banned by CAA after speaking out against Weinstein. The report also states that agents and managers still sent female clients Weinstein's way despite his behavior and told them to stay silent if anything went wrong. Mia Kershner, a client of CAA at the time, was meeting Weinstein about a possible film in NYC. Weinstein wanted to exchange sex for the film opportunity. Kershner told her agent, manager, and his boss about the incident and was told to forget about it as it was pointless. CAA issued an apology after the report and has set up a fund for victims of harassment. CAA partner, Bryan Lourd, was asked about Weinstein's alleged harassment. Lourd cited client confidentiality but it was reported that Weinstein compla
ined to Lourd about Ronan Farrow's article. Lourd tried to arrange a meeting between the two which ultimately didnt work out. Farrow has left the agency since the news about Lourd and Weinstein came out.

Tabloid Journalists
Weinstein had a close relationship with tabloid journalists. He would often offer stories in exchange for reporters killing stories about his misconduct. Weinstein had an alliance with the publisher of the National Enquirer. He used the Enquirer to gather intel on his accusers and to help kill negative stories about him. Weinstein also worked with Peter Bart, one of the most powerful journalists in the industry. Bart had a hand in killing any negative story about Weinstein and his production company. Former reporters and editors at Variety called Bart his "greatest protector".

Army of Spies
In a jaw dropping article written by Ronan Farrow, it was alleged that Weinstein hired private security agencies to gather information on actresses and journalists that were trying to expose him. Weinstein hired Kroll and Black Cube. Kroll is one of the largest corporate intelligence agencies in the world and Black Cube is run by former officers of Mossad and other Israeli intelligence agencies. Two private investigators from Black Cube met with Rose McGowan and used false identities. They pretended to be womens rights advocates and even acted as they had an allegation against Weinstein. They met with journalists to find out which women were talking to the press. Journalists directed by Weinstein and private investigators interviewed these women and reported the details back to Weinstein.

ONTD Original: Liam Gallagher's Best Tweets of 2017 By Month

2017 was an eventful year for Liam Gallagher - he released his first solo album which went to #1 in the UK, he shared a stage with Chris Martin of Coldplay to pay tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing, he became a climate change activist by partnering with the climate coalition for a television ad, and he reconciled with his brother, Noel, after 8 years of estrangement.

While sitting in an airport due to a delayed flight home for the holidays, I decided to look back at Liam's year through his superbly entertaining twitter account and pick his best tweet of each month of 2017. My criteria was simply whatever I found the most entertaining, bizarre, or drama-filled. I held off on posting this for a few days to ensure that I didn't miss anything, because you never know with Liam.

Enjoy his 12 best tweets of 2017 below:

January 2017
Liam kicked off 2017 rather slowly on twitter. Tweeting, rather uncharacteristically, only four times in January, my options were rather limited. I've chosen this dig at his brother, Noel, for supporting U2 on tour as his best tweet of January:

February 2017
For February, I've decided to include a tweet that shows Liam's excitement about his then up-coming debut solo album (released October, 2017). In the tweet, he's clearly overcome with emotion after tweeting out the lyrics to his song, "Come Back To Me."

March 2017
Still ramping up excitement for his solo album, Liam graced us with some lovely imagery:

April 2017
Upon the news that Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn collaborated on a Gorillaz track entitled, "We Got The Power," Liam took to twitter to let the world know how he felt about the song:

May 2017
Liam took a break from insulting people to send love to all those affected by the May 22, 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. He would later go on to perform as a special guest at Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester concert to benefit the victims and their families.

June 2017
After the Oasis classic, "Don't Look Back In Anger," became a symbol of solidarity in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing, many fans wondered if Oasis would reunite to perform at the One Love Manchester concert. Liam changed his schedule last minute and flew to the UK from Germany to make a special appearance and to perform "Live Forever" with Coldplay's Chris Martin. Noel was out of the country at the time and could not attend the event and Liam had some thoughts about that.

July 2017
Liam's twitter account was thoroughly entertaining throughout the month of July. He kicked off the month dedicating a tweet to the thief who stole his parkas from his hotel room while he was playing Glastonbury. He tweeted several nonsensical, contextless, but still entertaining thoughts. He directed multiple insults towards his brother and U2. And he responded to British athlete Mo Farah's tweet in which he posted a photo to his instagram with Noel but mistakenly wrote, "Chilling with my boy liamgallagher U2 concert in Twickenham..!!" Liam remained good humoured and responded simply by saying, "Good to see u2 mo as you were LG x" However, this is quite possibly my favourite tweet of Liam's from July of 2017:

August 2017
In August, Liam thanked the Q awards for his nominations.

September 2017
Liam hits out at twitter keyboard warriors.

October 2017
Among a slew of insults directed at, you guessed it, Noel was a hidden gem of an avant-garde artpop tweet. Suddenly the koons is Liam!

November 2017
November was a great month for Liam tweets and it was hard to choose the best one. But due to the nature of this post, I thought the following was most fitting:

December 2017
A Christmas miracle! The tweet that sent Oasis fans around the world into overdrive wondering what it all means as Liam hints at a reconciliation with his brother, Noel.

FAQ

What is a lizard person?
They are reptilian humanoids from outer space, colonizing the earth. They are also known as reptoids, reptiloids, saurians, Draconians, and Argonians.

How many Americans believe in lizard people?
There are dozens of us.

How can you spot a lizard person in public?
Because of their ability to shapeshift, it can be difficult to spot them in public spaces. Sometimes these human skin-suit disguises do slip and expose their reptilian features, but it’s a blink and you miss it situation. Usually it’s the eyes that give it away. For a moment, they become vertical-slit pupils. Also they are sluggish in the morning due to being "cold-blooded" and must seek out external sources of heat. This is why celebrities are obsessed with "tanning".

Let's start with Canadian pop-singer Justin Bieber .

Sydney Beliebers caught their idol shape-shifting while on tour in Australia. The event was allegedly reported on, in the Perth Now! However, the article was abruptly removed. It can be surmised that the All-powerful Reptilian shadow government is responsible for its disappearance. These fans claimed to have seen "gross colored scales" covering The Biebz. They also claim that his bodyguards threatened to kick their teeth in if they didn't put their phones away. They are aggressively trying to hide the truth.

anigif_sub-buzz-15674-1489451227-2.gif

And, if you look back on The Biebster's arrest, there is video of him behaving in a reptilian manner with slow, deliberate blinks.

Who else is there?

old-movie.gif

Elizabeth II. That's right. Reptilian blood flows through the Queen's bloodline. Watch out, Meghan!

Allegedly Putin spotted her mid-shapeshift. However, this might be a tactic to divert attention away from himself.

putin.jpg

Side-note: According to British conspiracy theorist David Icke, most of the world's leaders are reptilians. Icke's conspiracy theories have supporters in up to 47 countries; he has given lectures to crowds of up to 6,000.

See, there are dozens of us.

Lady Gaga claims that she doesn’t take her glasses off for many interviews, but chooses to take them off with Barbara Walters, an alleged fellow lizard lady. She says that the biggest misconception about her is that she’s artificial and attention seeking. She's giving us a major clue into her true nature.

A video of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg was dug up and passed around of him saying this: “You’re human and I was human…I am human.”
Talk about major slip of the tongue. He denies it here, but are you convinced? Yeah, I didn't think so. I watched The Social Network.

It has also been speculated that former President Barack Obama is a reptilian. Check out his lightning fast reflexes. Watch him kill a fly with expert precision.

While visiting The View, he drops this line: there’s a reptilian side of our brain . They think we don't pick up on these comments, but we do. This is the internet; we over analyze every word spoken.

It's a dead giveaway, folks.

ezgif-2-9c72f2f092.gif

Check out journalist Anderson Cooper's eyes.

My God... Alex Jones was right. Fake human reporting fake news.

Britney Spears frequently flicks her tongue out when she sings, using it to taste and smell the air. This is a habit she forgot to drop before assimilating into her human form.

canvas-4.png

What about Taylor Swift?

While she is a reptilian, she isn't a lizard person. Every snake is a reptile, but not every reptile is a snake. They Who Slither are Mostly Harmless.

72bdf364cd4535ef9.gif

scale.png

And Benedict Cumberbatch?

He is not a shapeshifter. He is a prime example of a hybrid when you blitz human and reptoid DNA together in your Magic Bullet. Real X-Files type stuff.

More shapeshifters caught in the act:

Here are 17 books published in 2017, selected from the books that I've read. These 17 books stood out to me for different reasons: some were excellent, some were just fun, and others made me scratch my head wondering how the hell they got published in the first place.

Little Heaven by Nick Cutter
Published: January 10th 2017

A trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous. Stirrings in the woods and over the treetops—the brooding shape of a monolith known as the Black Rock casts its terrible pall. Paranoia and distrust grips the settlement. The escape routes are gradually cut off as events spiral towards madness. Hell—or the closest thing to it—invades Little Heaven. The remaining occupants are forced to take a stand and fight back, but whatever has cast its dark eye on Little Heaven is now marshaling its powers...and it wants them all.

While I thought this book took almost 100 pages to get exciting, in the end I thought it was worth it. Maybe I'm biased because I used to live in New Mexico, but the creepy southwest + cults = a fun read IMO!

I know this book was wildly popular this year, but I could not stand it. I can't say why, though, without spoiling the ending.

Eva grew up watching her father, Miles, invent strange and wonderful things in the small workshop behind their house on the river that runs through their old mill town. But the most important invention of all was the one that Miles claimed came from the mind of Thomas Edison himself--a machine that allowed one to speak with loved ones long passed. Smuggled out of Edison's laboratory, the blueprints were passed down to Miles, and he's been using them to protect Eva, her mother, Lily, and her brother, Errol, ever since.

Then, one night when a storm is raging and the river is threatening to flood, the machine whirrs to life on its own. Danger, it says. You're in terrible danger. The next thing Eva knows is waking up on the side of the river and seeing her mother's grim face. Eva's father and brother are dead, their house has been washed away and an evil man is searching for them both. They need to hide.

Eva changes her name to Necco--a candy she always loved--and tries to put everything in her past behind her as she adapts to her new life off the grid. But when her boyfriend is murdered and her mother disappears, she knows that the past is starting to catch up to her.

What really happened the night of the flood? As Necco searches for the truth, her journey unites her with two women who are on desperate quests of their own. And as the trio follows the clues to solving the mystery of Necco's past, they discover that sometimes it's the smallest towns that hold the strangest secrets.

Release Date:  April 25th 2017

One morning, Takahashi, a writer who has just stayed up all night working, is interrupted by a phone call from his old friend Sonomura: barely able to contain his excitement, Sonomura claims that he has cracked a secret cryptographic code based on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Gold-Bug and now knows exactly when and where a murder will take place—and they must hurry if they want to witness the murder, because it’s later that very night! Sonomura has a history of lunacy and playing the amateur detective, so Takahashi is of course reluctant to believe him. Nevertheless, they stake out the secret location, and through tiny peepholes in the knotted wood, become voyeurs at the scene of a shocking crime…

Devils in Daylight is a new translation; it was first published in 1912. It's only 92 pages, and one of the best books I've read!

Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny. They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, even though they are as different as three women can be. Twenty years later, one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge . . and someone else is urging her to jump.

How did things come to this?

As the novel cuts back and forth between their college years and their adult years, you see the exact reasons why these women love and hate each other—but can feelings that strong lead to murder? Or will everyone assume, as is often the case, that it’s always the husband?

Insufferable, privileged, obnoxious main characters. God I hated them! But I could NOT put this stupid thriller down...

Published:  May 23rd 2017
In the early 20th Century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true.

Other true things about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.

This was a terrible plan.

Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe. It is the story of Winslow Houndstooth and his crew. It is the story of their fortunes. It is the story of his revenge.

Another disappointment.

Thus begins Apollo’s odyssey through a world he only thought he understood to find a wife and child who are nothing like he’d imagined. His quest begins when he meets a mysterious stranger who claims to have information about Emma’s whereabouts. Later this year, we will be #blessed with yet another installment in the Halloween movie franchise with a new reboot... Which reminded me that just about 10 years ago, Rob Zombie's Halloween was released back in August of '07. That inspired me to take a look back at the horror movies that celebrated their 10 year anniversary in 2017. BTW, 2007 had a lot more interesting (mainstream) films than what was released in 2008, IMO. Feel free to @ me in the comments but it looked like 2008 gave us a LOT of remakes!

Video Games that Turn 20 this Year!

Ready for a nostalgia post, old!ONTD? Have no fear, your trusty ONTD nerd user babs is here. In this post are seven games (sorted by birthday) that will be turning 20 in 2018!!

Please note that the seven videos in this post have been sized down to 250 x 141, and gifs to a maximum width of 150px, in order to prevent as much lag or loading time as possible. I can't speak for the comments though!

Resident Evil 2
Birthday: January 21
Genre: Survival Horror
Developed by: Capcom

The game that would push the Resident Evil series into an official franchise, its original version was a disappointment to Capcom, delaying the release of the final product for an entire year. Now considered one of the best video games ever made, the wait and refusal to rush the game as soon as possible after the surprising success of its predecessor has paid off. Greatly: even if you aren't a gamer (or much of a movie-goer), you've probably at least heard of the series.

Dance Dance Revolution
Birthday: September!
Genre: Music, Exergaming
Developed by: Konami

The Japanese are historically innovative, and DanceDanceRevolution is just one sample of that innovation. The game was praised for its originality and continues to be the reference that spawns many video games inspired by it. The era of the arcade may have waned in North America, but DDR revived the industry in the late 90s and is still prevalent in its country of origin today.

Parasite Eve
Birthday: March 29
Genre: Survival Horror, Action RPG
Developed by: Square

A sequel to the book of the same name, Parasite Eve was Square's first major American/Japanese collaboration and came amidst the J-horror phenomena (of which expanded to other fiction, such as The Ring). Although the game was considered too linear and had little to no replay value, it received favorable reviews for its unique blend of genres, beautiful graphics for its time, and haunting soundtrack, which used influences from both opera and electronica.

Metal Gear Solid
Birthday: September 3
Genre: Action Adventure, Stealth
Developed by: Konami

Not actually the first game in the franchise (but the first to be released in North America), here we have yet another video game that makes the list of video games considered the best of all time, Metal Gear Solid— the game that arguably helped popularize the stealth genre as well as set the standard for story-to-gameplay ratio. It raked in critical acclaim for its stunning cinematics, melodramatic storyline, and irresistible gameplay, among many other things that essentially every critic creamed themselves over.

Spyro the Dragon
Birthday: September 9
Genre: Platform
Developed by: Insomniac Games

Spyro the Dragon is the first of the three classic Spyro games by Insomniac. This game was praised for its graphics and high replay value but carries with it a rare example of the sequels doing it better. To be good enough to bring fans Spyro 2 and the more critically acclaimed Spyro 3 makes this a more-than-worthy shout-out.

Pokémon Yellow
Birthday: September 12
Genre: RPG
Developed by: Game Freak

Yellow is a first-generation Pokémon game that is an extended version of the first releases, which were critically acclaimed. This game took elements from the incredibly popular (and currently ongoing) Pokémon anime and was the last video game published for the Game Boy outside of Japan. It was released to be an enhanced version of Red & Blue, but some critics argued against that, stating that the new additions are only barely worth spending money on. Though, Nintendo's formula of releasing the same game under different names still sees massive success to this day.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Birthday: November 21
Genre: Action Adventure, RPG
Developed by: Nintendo

Ocarina of Time was included in a cornucopia of 'best / most influential games' lists after its initial release. It was released to widespread critical acclaim, strong commercial success, and received a number of honors and awards. It came second to Super Mario Bros. as Nintendo's 100 Greatest Games of All Time and holds an incredibly powerful legacy.

*The above image was taken from Morgan90's previous awards posts, I don't know how to use photoshop or whatever, so credit to them*

How this will work:
I'll comment with the categories in the subject line, you reply to the comment with your nomination. If you agree with someones nomination then +1 or whatever; you can +1 as many times as you want within a certain category. You can nominate the same movie in multiple categories - for example, say you nominate a Foreign Language Film you can also nominate it for Drama/Comedy/whatever. I'll add all the shit up, make another post with the full list of nominees and then ya'll vote for the winners. Cool? Cool, bye.

If ONTD reads, wait until I've commented with all the categories before you start nominating.

In order to get nominated, a film has to have 3 or more +1's. I'll try to have at least 5 in a category, but if there aren't enough films nominated then it'll have less than 5 and if there are ties then there will be more than 5.

ONTD Original: When Female Celebrities Go Through Hair Loss

$
0
0
Hair loss in women is an extremely common thing. So common that I may as well tell you all that water is wet, the sky is blue, and men were a mistake.

But hardly anyone ever talks about it. Women keeping up with impossible beauty standards means denying being a human being. Heels do not allow for a natural foot position (on the contrary, it's damaging), being prepubescent thin as an adult requires as little eating as possible, "I don't fart, what are you talking about" - Kim Kardashian, etc. So WHY ON EARTH would a woman admit out loud to losing her hair?

Despite the stress in her life, the stress she puts on her scalp to at least look presentable, the disease of an eating disorder that keeps her malnourished, and the hormones that go nuts on her hair while she's pregnant and/or after having a baby.

But it's real. And it happens. And it's okay! It can happen to anybody. And as a matter of fact? It does. Here's a tongue-in-cheek post to prove it!

First up is Selena Gomez. Here she is in 2007, 2008, 2009:

In recent years, Selena's spark has been slowly disappearing and taking her hairline with it. She might not look it, but what was once an abundance of adorable baby hairs is now a thinning shadow of what it once was. Her hair is still thick and glorious, ofc, but her hair loss is actually quite noticeable once it's pointed out.

2012 was the beginning of the end to whatever Selena had left of for a soul. Not that anyone could possibly keep track, but that was a big year for Jelena breakups and shades. We had Barbara Palvin responding to Beiber hook-up rumors via Twitter, Selena Gomez "releasing some stress" at a gun range before deleting her Instagram, and a possibly yet-to-be-diagnosed Lupus disease on top of it all.

And in 2013, we got that Letterman moment where she made fun of making Justin Bieber cry (good, fuck him). But there's no doubt he made her cry too, despite always letting everyone know about her fresh starts and new beginnings and revivals and being so damn good, etc. etc. Did I mention she once showed up sloshed to a "fancy" WB party?

(2012, 2013)

Who wouldn't experience hair loss at that point? Especially since the mess hasn't stopped since.

"I'm a little bit like my character [from Wizards of Waverly Place]; she gets in trouble a lot and I guess I'm kind of a good girl, so I don't get in trouble as much as she does. But I'm kinda like her, style-wise." -Selena Gomez in 2007

(both 2017)

Ariana Grande

If you didn't expect this one to show up, bless your sheltered soul for how dead wrong you were, sis. This is a classic (and very common) case of traction alopecia. A good mixture of hair tied tightly and up high and secured solid with hairspray will do that to you. All this only just after going through bottles and bottles of red hair dye for her Nickelodeon job just made this inevitable.

"[I had to dye it] like, every other week. Originally, I did have to bleach it because they used to put highlights in it which totally, like, ruined my hair for a little while. But then we came up with a really healthy solution for it and now it's happy and growing hair!" - Ariana Grande in 2011

(2015, 2016, 2017)

Ashley Olsen

(2003, 2004, 2010)

How do I begin to explain Ashley Olsen? Ashley Olsen is FLAWLESS I don't. Not really. Because the truth is? Nobody really knows what goes down with the Olsen twins. All we have are leaked pictures of proof that they have been clubbing since they were at least 16 and Ashley hid her eating disorder well. Ashley is the Type A twin, the strategic twin, the twin that doesn't get caught doing everything Mary Kate got caught doing (though, with less famous people and less often). And that's pretty damn impressive, but it doesn't mean it didn't physically take its toll on her.

"Yeah, [Mary-Kate's eating disorder is because she became famous too young] but I've lived the same life and, you know, I'm here." -Ashley Olsen in 2004

(2015, 2017)

Her hair is coming back nicely though. Four for you, Ash Coco!

Fergie

(2002, 2003, 2005)

Former girl group member of Wild Orchid, Fergie's had a bit of a wild ride. Being put in a position where she couldn't be herself and trying to please everyone else was difficult for her to handle. She used crystal meth to cope and dropped down to 90lbs, at 5'4. Substance abuse, stress, pressure, malnutrition and a knack for tight updos was a lot for her body to handle.

(both 2017)

She looks better than ever though, truly, and Tension is a bop.

Lindsay Lohan

(2004, 2005)

"There's just too much drama. Just, like, laugh it off. [laughs]" -Lindsay Lohan in 2004

(2016, 2017)

Mila Kunis

(2002, 2004, 2008)

Sometimes, women experience hair loss (tons of it) during pregnancy. Mila Kunis is one of those women! She had her daughter in 2014 and was pregnant with her son in the 2016 photo below. MILF.

"Well, given that I have the title for sexiest woman alive for only eleven more months, I am going to eat it up until the next young lady takes the title away from me. I do sometimes like to remind people, around 5:30am when I'm at work that I'm the sexiest woman alive." -Mila Kunis in 2014

(2016, 2017)

Miley Cyrus

(both 2010)

A bit of a control freak, to say the least. Having been controlled and shamed by Disney and the parents of America cluttered her a bit. Almost as much as her "three hundred and fifty" hair extensions did. So acting out was the only way to not only break free, but for everyone to willingly let her go. Self-harm, drugs, nudity to take back what was stolen from her as a child (leaked personal photos), chopping all of that hair off and not having to deal with extensions anymore, and just being a problematic fav.

"None of it was ever real." -Miley Cyrus in 2011 talking about her hair, but take it as you will.

(both 2017)

Hilary Duff

(both 2003)

Like Ashley Olsen above, Hilary Duff is a bit of a mystery. She has always been painted as one of the few child stars who grew up well-adjusted, one of the few Disney didn't get to, the only "good girl" (sorry, Selener) left. Hilary started to get alarmingly thin in 2005 while dating Joel Madden, which lead to a number of rumours of a cocaine addiction. Whether or not that's true doesn't cancel out the fact that she was goinng through an eating disorder: her energy was non-existent in interviews, her voice was hoarse from bulimia, her skin was dry and dull, and her hair was thinning fast.

(2005, 2006)

When her relationship with Joel ended, he started one up with Nicole Richie, who lost A LOT of weight, which lead to even more rumors: that he is the person behind these eating disorders. That's only speculation though. Hilary herself said there was a headline that did it titled, Hilary Duff Puffs Up with a photo of the magazine having obviously photoshopped her face and she's wearing a loose blouse. Fuckers.

Fortunately, Hilary recovered, finally embracing her natural shape as her hair comes back nicely.

"I think there's no such thing as anyone that's perfect, you know?" -Hilary Duff in 2005

This post is a follow-up to my post about getting cheated on. 3 years later, we will be discussing our favourite songs that are a little bit more...morally ambiguous. From telling off a potential "homewrecker", to being the "homewrecker" trying to tempt someone from a relationship, the 90s had no shortage of songs that will make you feel brave, no matter what you are attempting to accomplish.

[1] He Loves You Not - dream

You can pout your cherry lips / Try to tempt with a sweet kiss / You can flutt your pretty eyes / He ain't got his hands tied.
No chains to unlock / So free to do what he wants / He's into what he's got / He loves me, he loves you not

[2] Where My Girls At - 702

See he's my property / And any girl that touch / I might just call your bluff /'Cause I don't give a fuck
Who are you to call my cell / Oh I'ma wish you well /'Cause any girl that tried has fell

Tryin' to take my man / See I don't need that / So don't play yourself

[3] The Case of the Ex - Mya

Tell me, why she on the phone in the middle of the night? / Tell me, why she in yo life tryna get what's mine?
She don't know me / she's about to know me
I'm in your life / and that's how it's goin' be / I saw a photo / she ain't even all that

[4] The Boy Is Mine - Brandy & Monica

You need to give it up / I've had about enough / It's not hard to see / The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you / Seem to be confused / He belongs to me / The boy is mine

[5] A Little Sumthin Sumthin - Kayle

I know you've got someone there by your side / But does she do you the way I do you in your mind?
(Maybe in time, she'll learn to love you better) / Oh baby, she's got to love you more
(And maybe in time, she'll learn to do you right) Cuz I know that I can do you right
If you want a little sumthin sumthin baby / I got what you want baby / You can run to me

[6] Sweet Lady - Tyrese

And I heard that you were taken / But that don't have to stop you from makin
Late night phone calls on the telephone / About your fantasies and ways to get it on
When you need me I will be / There for you my sweet lady

[7] You Make Me Wanna - Usher

This is kind of a reach... well, he's wrecking his own relationship.

You make me wanna leave the one I'm with / Start a new relationship with you / This is what you do

What's sad is that I love her but I'm falling for you / What should I do / Should I tell my baby bye-bye
Should I do exactly what I feel inside / Could I, I don't wanna go, don't need to stay
But I really need to get it together

ONTD Investigates: These "Time's Up" Donors Are Not Champions of Victims of Sexual Misconduct

$
0
0

The Time's Up initiative against sexual harassment has been a much-publicised project that includes a legal fund to support victims. A huge list of celebrities have donated to the fund.

It sounds like a great cause, but it's important, when dealing with Hollywood, to acknowledge that, in a time when many A-lister actors, directors and producers, not to mention talent agencies, are mired in scandal, it is also a huge PR boost. Yes, it helps victims, and many of the donors seem to genuinely care about the cause, are victims themselves, or are regular people. But it also helps the companies and some of the people complicit in perpetuating sexual harassment in Hollywood in the first place to look like heroes with a conscience - and all for a modest amount (to them).

The Time's Up manifesto says that harassment often persists because perpetrators and employers never face consequences. But are these donors really committed to making abusers face consequences? Let's take a closer look.

According to Variety, Time's Up was started by four CAA agents, then quickly expanded to include agents from WME, UTA and ICM. These companies make up 4 of the 6 biggest donors to date.

(That's Bryan Lourd on the left)

CAA (donated $2,000,000)

The New York Times reported that at CAA at least eight talent agents were told that Harvey Weinstein had harassed or menaced female clients, but agents there continued to arrange private meetings. They represented Gwyneth Paltrow and were the ones who arranged for her to have a private hotel meeting with the producer, according to her.

Ronan Farrow was a client of CAA. When Weinstein found out about the piece Ronan was writing, he went to the office of Bryan Lourd, one of the partners at CAA, to complain about it. Lourd tried to get Ronan Farrow to meet with Weinstein at the producer's request. Ronan left the agency once he found out that Lourd was trying to coordinate a meeting between the two.

In 2005, Courtney Love gave an interview on a red carpet where she warned actresses: "If Harvey Weinstein invites you to a party in his Four Seasons hotel room, don't go". She claims she was banned from CAA for speaking out against him.

Cade Hudson, a prominent agent at CAA, is facing accusations (Dec 2017) that he offered an actor sex in exchange for access to directors and a movie star in 2013. The victim said he felt powerless to speak out and feared that doing so would result in professional reprisals as the agent was so well-connected. At the time, Hudson was employed at Full Picture, but a year later he was hired by CAA, where has served as CAA's public face at red-carpet and charity events. In 2016 TMZ called him "the most popular agent in town"; his birthday parties were a veritable who's who of the LA scene (everyone from Sean Penn, Seth MacFarlane, Joe Jonas, Emma Roberts, Kate Hudson, Paris Hilton, Ryan Phillippe to Cody Simpson and Bella Thorne), and he represents some of the heaviest hitters in Hollywood (incl. Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Meryl Streep, Will Smith, George Clooney, JJ Abrams). There has been no news of him being suspended or fired.

CAA is currently (as of Nov 2017) being sued by an actress, who claimed CAA agent Cameron Mitchell was her agent and that he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. She said CAA's human-resources department ignored her report. She sued both Mitchell and the company, who only after the lawsuit parted ways with the agent.

In Sep 2017 CAA fired their head of TV literature, Ryan Ly, after several alleged incidents of sexual harassment. Five assistants accused him of inappropriate behavior, including groping and lewd comments; and although he was fired before the Weinstein scandal, his behavior was not publicized until recently.

CAA represents Johnny Depp (accused of domestic violence), Mel Gibson (accused of domestic violence, plus known antissemite), Oliver Stone (accused of sexual harassment), David O. Russell (accused of harassment and abusive behaviour), Sean Penn (allegedly accused of domestic violence), Logan Paul (of racism and laughing at the corpse of a man who committed suicide fame) and Shia LaBeouf (accused of domestic violence).

WME ($1,000,000)

In 2016 WME star agent Adam Venit sexually assaulted Terry Crews at a party, in public. At the time, the actor complained to his own WME agent, Brad Slater, but the matter was not taken up further by the agency, who after Crews made his accusation public in Dec 2017, gave Venit a one month unpaid suspension and then duly reinstated him. Crews then ditched WME for UTA.

Adam Venit's client roster at WME includes: Sylvester Stallone (accused of rape), Brett Ratner (accused of assault and sexual harassment), Dustin Hoffman (accused of sexual harassment), Russell Brand (known misogynist).

WME clients include: Christian Bale (known violent behavior, was once arrested accused of domestic violence), Ben Affleck (alleged serial groper, continued to work with Weinstein while knowing he was an abuser), Casey Affleck (alleged sexual harassment), Michael Bay (alleged sexual harassment), Russell Crowe (known violent behavior, vouched for Weinstein's alleged procurer in Italy, same man who allegedly brought Asia Argento to Weinstein's room under false pretenses where she was allegedly raped), Matt Damon (same as Crowe except for the violent behavior), Mark Wahlberg (racist, convicted of a hate crime).

UTA ($1,000,000)

Rose McGowan called out UTA on twitter, accusing them of sending unsuspecting women to meet with Harvey Weinstein.

Clients include Murray Miller (the Girl's writter accused of rape) and Chris Brown (known for domestic violence incidents). Former clients: Danny Masterson (has been accused of rape several times and has NOW been dropped by the agency), Johnny Depp (has been accused of domestic violence, he left the agency because he’s broke AF not b/c he beat up Amber Heard), Bill O’Reilly (has been accused of sexual harassment, only fired him after news of a $32 million sexual harassment settlement).

ICM ($1,000,000)

Also called out by Rose McGowan for sending actresses to private meetings with Harvey Weinstein.

In the Fox News scandal, Tamara Holder, who settled a sexual assault claim with the network in March 2017, says she told her ICM agents Steve Levine, Matt Sorger and Will Horowitz that Francisco Cortes, then vice president of Fox News Latino, tried to force her to perform oral sex on him, and the agents discouraged her from reporting it to Fox.She says they told her her career would be over if she disclosed her abuse to her employer, "slammed the door on her face" when she disregarded this advice, and then intentionally refused to assist her lawyers. OP could not find news of the accused agents being suspended or fired.

In June 2017 ICM fired agent Erik Horine after a company-wide investigation stemming from the Fox scandal. The long-time agent was allegedly involved in multiple sexual harassment incidents. Horine’s pattern of behavior can be dated back to 2009. According to Variety, “Horine’s alleged pattern became so well known that new female recruits in the TV lit department were routinely warned of his behavior by other women in the department”. Several senior agents were aware of Horine’s behavior and female staffers mentioned Horine’s behavior in exit interviews in 2015 and 2016.

TL;DR - "Coincidentally", all 4 of the talent agencies who started Time's Up are mired in sexual misconduct scandals. CAA, the biggest donor and the company that kickstarted it all, seems to be the most egregious offender. Furthermore, at least 3 of the 4 agencies represent men who are well known for violent and abusive behaviour. It's worth remembering that when an agency represents a celebrity, they make a cut out of that celebrity's earnings. They have a stake in cleaning up their reputations and keeping them employed.

Moving on to the celebrities who have donated to the fund.

  • The list of celebs who have donated is overwhelmingly female.

  • Most of the men who have worked with Roman Polanski, Woody Allen or Nate Parker, like Ewan McGregor, John C Riley, Pierce Brosnan, Timothee Chalamet, Colin Firth, Armie Hammer, etc, have not donated. (But Swiss Chalet and Hammer will be wearing a black tux at a black tie event because they care about sexual harassment so much!)

  • We also could not find on the list of donors any of the men who have directly been accused of sexual misconduct, despite many of them claiming to be falsely accused and professing themselves feminists and champions for women.

  • And neither did we find the names of Matt Damon, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino and others who have worked extensively with Harvey Weinstein and later claimed to be shocked and appalled about sexual harassment on the media.

  • Most of the celebrities donated small amounts. The overwhelming majority donated from $200-$2,000, many donated even less. A good number goes up to $5,000. Fewer people go up to $10,000. From then upwards, it's a very small list.

MERYL STREEP ($500,000) - Meryl is one of 7 donors who donated $500,000 and one of the biggest individual donors. She is currently facing PR problems over her previous recurring working relationship with Harvey Weinstein, whom she called a "god" when accepting an Oscar for a film he produced. While some commentators claim that she had to have known about his abusive behavior (given that some of his victims, like Asia Argento and Léa Seydoux, have affirmed that his harassment of women was public and notorious), we can leave that controversy aside and focus on the fact that she gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation at the Academy Awards, and, when asked at an event about his latest prison stint, she replied that she was "really sorry he was in jail" (for raping a child).

JENNIFER ANISTON ($500,000) - Alleged rapist Terry Richardson was the official photographer at her wedding to Justin Theroux. He's a long time friend of the couple.

NATALIE PORTMAN ($50,000) - Natalie is #21 on the list of highest donors. She signed the petition for Roman Polanski and starred in a short ad called “Greed” for Polanski as well.

CATE BLANCHETT ($50,000) - #22. Worked on “Blue Jasmine” with Woody Allen. Cate said “It’s obviously been a long and painful situation for the family, and I hope they find some resolution and peace” when asked about Dylan Farrow’s letter. She also stated that she would work with him again.

EMMA STONE ($50,000) - #23. Worked on “Magic in the Moonlight” AND “Irrational Man” with Woody Allen. In both movies she has a much older male love interest. Working with Allen was on the actress’ bucket list: “I can certainly tick [making movies with Allen] off on my bucket list and the experience of working with him couldn’t have gone better”.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE (+ Jessica Biel) ($25,000) - #31 on the list is a joint donation by the couple. Justin just worked on “Wonder Wheel” with Woody Allen (where apparently his character falls in love with his stepdaughter? hmmm sounds familiar). He also worked with Chris Brown.

BLAKE LIVELY ($25,000) - #32 on the list of highest donors. Worked on “Cafe Society” with Woody Allen and when asked about the allegations of child molestation against him, said it’s “very dangerous to factor in things you don’t know anything about.” She said she could only go by her own experience, which is that Allen is “empowering to women.”

SCARLETT JOHANSSON ($20,000) - #39. Scarlett said about Woody Allen "It's not like this is somebody that's been prosecuted and found guilty of something, and you can then go, 'I don't support this lifestyle or whatever.' I mean, it's all guesswork." She added, "It would be ridiculous for me to make any kind of assumption one way or the other." Also complained about how being associated with Allen was messing up her Google alerts: "I think it's irresponsible to take a bunch of actors that will have a Google alert on and to suddenly throw their name into a situation that none of us could possibly knowingly comment on. That just feels irresponsible to me." Called Dylan Farrow’s letter “irresponsible”.

ANDY SAMBERG (+Joanna Newsom) ($10,000) - Among the 10k donations (still easily spotted) is a joint donation by the couple. Samberg is a part of The Lonely Island, whose official twitter account supported Murray Miller, the Girl's writer accused of raping Aurora Perrineau. Miller was roomies with Samberg in college and co-wrote Samberg's movies 7 Days in Hell and Tour de Pharmacy. Andy also had convicted rapist Mike Tyson play a role in Tour de Pharmacy.

LAURA PREPON ($5,000) - Is a scientologist. The "church" has been accused of covering up rape and other sexual misconduct by its members, including Danny Masterson's alleged rapes.

AZIZ ANSARI ($5,000) - Aziz refused to speak out against Louis C.K. in an interview with The Daily Beast. Ansari had a plot on “Master of None” regarding sexual harassment (public masturbation, which is one of the things Louis CK was accused of) but when asked about Louis C.K., he refused point blank to speak about it. They share a manager, Dave Becky, who has been accused of silencing CK's victims. Note: AMY POEHLER (donated $10,000) was contacted by The Huffington Post in regards to Louis C.K. and she never responded, she also has not spoken against him either. She praised him in her 2014 book (when the accusations were still rumours) and had him on Parks & Rec. She's also repped by Dave Becky.

GRETA GERWIG ($3,000) - Worked with Woody Allen on “To Rome with Love” and called him her idol.

REBECCA HALL ($1,000) - Worked on “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” with Woody Allen AND “A Rainy Day in New York”.

JUDE LAW ($500) - A pretty low donation, Jude Law must be saving some money to get new hair plugs. Law is working on the latest Woody Allen film called “A Rainy Day in New York” (where, surprise, his character has a sexual relationship with the character played by Elle Fanning, who's 19 irl).

MICHELLE WILLIAMS ($500) - She was in the Polanski short "Greed" and worked with Casey Affleck on Manchester by the ZZZZ after the allegations of sexual harassment.

LENA DUNHAM ($0) - Remember when she publicly defended Murray Miller and called his accuser a liar? And when she wrote a racist article about Japanese people? And when... ok I'm not gonna list every terrible and cringeworthy thing she's done cause I don't wanna be here all year. A flop as usual, Lena Dunham's name is not even on the donation list. Unless she made an anonymous donation - and when has she ever done anything discreetly when she could get attention instead? And yet there she was, wearing a Time's Up shirt in the Time's Up photoshoot. Literally doing the LEAST.

TL;DR - Many of the highest, eye-catching donations by individual celebs were "coincidentally" made by people who have the PR problem of recently working with and/or publicly defending accused or convicted harassers/abusers/rapists.

So ONTD, are these companies and celebs on a shameless PR clean-up operation? or do you think they genuinely care about the issue and the victims?

[1] Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson

I'll spread my wings, and I'll learn how to fly / I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky

Out of the darkness and into the sun / But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk / Take a chance / Make a change / And breakaway

[2] Birmingham - Amanda Marshall
aka the song that inspired this post #justiceforamandamarshall#theoriginaljojo#ohcanada

She's never been so all alone / She's never felt so free.
She got miles to go, blind faith and hope
'cause there's an other chance, and someday soon / Shining like the Alabama moon
She's looking for the promised land out beyond the lights of Birmingham

[3] Stronger - Sugababes

I'm all alone and finally / I'm getting stronger
You'll come to see / Just what I can be
I'm getting stronger

[4] Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield

Drench yourself in words unspoken / Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins / The rest is still unwritten

[5] Just Fine - Mary J. Blige

No time for moping around, are you kidding
And no time for negative vibes, cause I'm winning
It's been a long week, I put in my hardest
Gonna live my life, feels so good to get it right

[6] Fight Song - Rachel Platten
I hate this song

This is my fight song / Take back my life song / Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on / Starting right now I'll be strong / I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

[7] Change - Taylor Swift
another borderline choice from me... i just wanted to add this #tbt

Because these things will change / Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
This revolution, the time will come / For us to finally win
And we’ll sing hallelujah, we’ll sing hallelujah

[8] Skyscraper - Demi Lovato

Go on and try to tear me down / I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper

Honourable mentions:
Fighter - Christina Aguilera
Girl from the Gutter - Kina
Push It to the Limit - Corbin Bleu
The Show Goes On - Lupe Fiasco
