-Actress Theresa Saldana had just co starred in the hit film "Raging Bull" when a man from Scotland had become obsessed with her after watching the film. He traveled to L.A. where he hired a private investigator to obtain information on her. He attacked Saldana in broad daylight outside of her home with a 5 inch hunting knife with such force the knife bent. A deliveryman helped stop the attack. Saldana suffered 10 knife wounds a punctured lung and stayed in the hospital for 4 months.
Saldana made the film in 1984 to shine a light on weak assault laws and insurace bills.
Saldana notes in the film how the man who tried to kill her gets free room and board, free medical care, etc, while she had to struggle with paying for her recovery as many victims did then and now.
The maximum sentence for the brutal attack was only 12 years in 1982.
Saldana appeared on the hit show "Hunter" in 1987 and played a version of herself to raise awareness of what happens to victims when their attackers are released. The man that attacked Saldana had started to threaten her. There were no laws against this in 1988. After protesting, the stalkers prison time was extended and when he was released in 1996 he was sent back to Scotland to stand trail for a 1966 murder.
Saldana went on to star in the hit show " The Commish" where she played Michael Chiklis's wife Rachel Scall from 1991 to 1996. The victims rights activist and actress passed away from pneumonia in 2016.She was 61.
