We've had many ONTD Originals about the 90s recently (and some by me), so why not another one today.
These songs I selected are to my knowledge can be called underrated because majority of the time many don't bring them up in past original posts or the more popular songs of artists are mentioned.
Let It Go (1997) – Ray J
Before Sexy Can I or ex-boyfriend of Kim Kardashian, Ray J was more known as 'Brandy's brother' and wanted to change that with his debut single Let it Go (which was so featured on the Set It Off soundtrack)
Sentimental (1995) – Deborah Cox
The Canadian born singer, Deborah made her debut with this classic song where it peaked on the Hot 100 at #27.
FYI – Omar Epps plays her ex-boyfriend in the video
Here We Go Again (1992) – Portrait
After their first single Honey Dip was a modest hit, but it was their second single Here We Go Again became their signature song. It went to #1 on the R&B charts and peaked on the Hot 100 at #11.
FYI – Portrait performed this song on a episode of Family Matters
Body Bumpin' (1998) – Public Announcement
Many would not remember that group Public Announcement were the backup band for R. Kelly. They released the album Born into the 90's (1992) and then after R. Kelly went solo. Body Bumpin' was their first single with him and the song peaked #5 on the Hot 100 and went certified Platinum.
Sending My Love (1994) – Zhané
After their two smash party hits Hey Mr. DJ and Groove Thang, Zhané released the more “glorious, elegant, and sleek” slowed single. It peaked at #40 on the Hot 100 and #5 on R&B charts.
Honorable Mentions
Used to Love Me– Faith Evans, Superwoman– Karyn White, Keep On Walking– CeCe Peniston, I Belong To You– Rome, How Many Ways – Toni Braxton, Hat 2 Da Back– TLC, and Why I Love You So Much– Monica
